I have four ones. My first, TRAIN, was early on when I started playing. My second was more than two years later and I got two more in the next two years. I’m hoping to rack up at least two more before all the new words are used. So keep using your word! The odds of hitting a one using a new word are increasing, so don’t give up.
-
I’ve used the same first word since Wordle began in the vain hope of getting a first word success. Now that they a reusing words I may never get lucky. ☹️
-
The good news is you still have a 90% better chance with a new word vs. a repeat word. Many of us still only play new word starters (not on Five Forks past answers list.)
The only exception for me was the pre-announced Ground Hog Day for the beginning of repeats. I guessed CIGAR #0 for fun, and it paid off. That’s my only 1.

-
We have a new leader after just four days! I could make a double pun about it, but I’ll spare everyone the eye roll.
CLUMP > #1767 > 04/21/26

BELLY > #58 > 08/16/21 = 1,705 daysDRAMA > #1731 > 03/16/26

Hi
Just noticed that TOADY is listed as 1664 but it is actually 1764. A typo i guess.
I love your work, thanks.
Jenny-
Thank you Jennifer. Typo or Mind-o. Fixed!
-
-
Hi Jeb,
I just noticed a little bitty mistake on the chronological list. Yesterday’s word TOADY should be 1764 not 1664.
It’s not major, but my old eyes spotted it.
Have a great day.-
Thanks for keeping me honest Laura. My old eyes appreciate yours!

I meant to post this first thing this morning, but better late than never.
Woohoo! Surpassed 1,700 days with a new first-place distant neighbor pair:
BELLE > #1763 > 04/17/26
BELLY > #58 > 08/16/21 = 1,705 daysDRAMA > #1731 > 03/16/26
DRAIN > #63 > 08/21/21 = 1,668 daysLADEN > #1755 > 04/09/26
LABOR > #94 > 09/21/21 = 1,661 days -
Jeb,
With a few exceptions, it’s currently Daylight Saving Time not Standard Time. Furthermore, UTC is the globally recognized term: https://www.timeanddate.com/time/gmt-utc-time.html-
Thanks Mike. This is way more complicated to automate than you would think. Going for country and ballpark standard timezone name (not time.) GMT more romantic. UTC more technical. 🤔
-
-
A new second-place distant neighbor pair:
DRAMA > #1731 > 03/16/26
DRAIN > #63 > 08/21/21 = 1,668 daysLADEN > #1755 > 04/09/26
LABOR > #94 > 09/21/21 = 1,661 daysFREAK > #1682 > 01/26/26
FRESH > #22 > 07/11/21 = 1,660 days-
All three of these are have some level of humor:
* DRAMA DRAIN (I feel it every day!)
* LADEN LABOR (Is that retirement?)
* FREAK FRESH (A really big strawberry?)Thanks for reporting Mike!

I think the word on 4/7/26 was sense, not dense.
-
If you look at the Five Forks Wordle “After Party” on 4/7 people were showing DENSE as their answer.
https://www.fiveforks.com/wordle/daily/1753-tue-04-07-2026/
Reddit also has a daily:
https://www.reddit.com/r/wordle/comments/1sdujvg/daily_wordle_1753_tuesday_7_apr_2026/If you information that says SENSE, let us know. Could be big “double word day” news.

Will the reuse sequence be moved to it’s own page at some point? It’s not really a problem right now, as there’s only been eight, but at some point reuses will get more and more frequent, and the reuse sequence will just become a wall of numbers on the front page.
-
For sure! I’ve been thinking a “stats” page that shows a reuse table with dates, distance, sequence #, or any other useful patterns.
NYT should really randomly recycle words in at whatever rate they want, but it doesn’t look random with the skew towards early words.
-
-
The “sandy” target was first used in game 1226, not 1225 as in your header section.
-
Thanks Roger. Fixed! Also corrected the Tips page.
-
-
I reached the 1000 win-streak goal today, Easter Sunday, by consistently using your site. Thank you!
-
Congrats!
Next goal: 1,095 = 3 years!
-
-
SANDY was in year 4, not year 3.
-
Bad annual thinking on my part. Yes, SANDY #1226 10/27/24 was at Wordle’s age of 1226 / 365 = 3.4 years. I saw that 3, but yes, that’s in Wordle’s 4th year. That sounds even more shocking. I’ll update. Thanks Jamie!
-
-
Jeb,
Your Tips & FAQs page at Tip 2 never was updated to include # 1226 (SANDY)-
Don,
It is updated now. I don’t update the Main, Block, Tips & FAQ or General Feedback spaces with “today information” (answer / repeat) until after 6 a.m. (midnight Hawaii) the next day.Five Forks Wordle is largely a non-spoiler site. People come here looking for “wordle past answers no spoiler” because they’ve been burned elsewhere. I recently created the daily “After Party” discussion posts which are clearly flagged “SPOILER ALERT” and allow same-day comments, even for our New Zealanders (who play first.)
Thanks for the heads up, though. Keep me honest!
-
-
It looks like a pattern has been established. Repeat words have been on 2/2, 3/3, 4/4.
-
Then, there will be a repeat on Cinco De Mayo, per your projection.
-
-
Jeb,
Typo in my prior message: modem was 1200 and not 1210-
My first modem was also 1200 baud. (Groan.)
-
Jeb,
No. 1200 is correct. I used1210 in my post just below. Did you read that post?-
Got it. Replied below.
-
And to clarify, it is neither 1200 or 1210 but 122 right? That’s what you wrote in your original and what I’m seeing on the list:
COMET #122 10/19/21 which *was* flagged as a repeat with the red @.
-
I’m running in circles. I see now you were also talking MODEM in addition to COMET but it was COMET that was the miss on the TIPS.
I think I’m back on track.
-
-
-
-
-
Your Tips and FAQ’s page @ Tip 2: needs updating to include #122 (comet).
This “comet” solve is important to me because that day, after “soare” and “newly” were entered in the “Word Finder” for NYT wordle answers, I was left with only 4 possible solves and all of them were repeats!!!!
77 totem
122 comet
734 covet
1210 modem
Sticking with repeats w/in the first year, 734 and1210 were winnowed out.
Looking at your then designated repeat list I noticed that no new repeat was closer than 36 digits from its neighboring repeat. Since #122 comet’s neighbor was “ivory” at # 59 and “totem” at #77 was within 36 digits I opted for “comet” at # 122. Eureka. Could distance from neighboring repeat be a possible tie breaker?-
Don,
I see the miss now. As a tip, I keep the top of the main (and block) list updated first. I have twice forgotten to go update the Tips page, so sorry about that, but I’ll fix that. But the top keeps the stats in red: new vs current, the % new and the sequence numbers. I’ll be updating the tips page for other reasons based on today’s word. Thanks for the feedback, and sorry for the confusion all being discussed in the 4/4/26 After Party…
-
-
Man I was really hoping today’s wasn’t going to be what it ended up being, but had to choose between it or an “ending in S” plural, so I guess one of the guidelines would’ve been broken, and this was the fuzzier one…
-
Today really lit up the “After Party” discussion about today’s puzzle!
-
-
4/4 After Party should be #1750, not #1760. I guess it’s not auto-generated?
-
Thanks Mike! I used Grok A.I. to build a 100 day pre-load of scheduled After Party posts. I learned a lot about SQL database imports. But somewhere along the line either Grok or I didn’t do basic math and got +10 on the puzzle #s.
In the Five Forks Labs repairing now…
-
-
Cool. The pages now display in my default dark mode. Did you just enable that, Jeb?
-
Oh, I had seen this feature in the drop-down list but had forgotten. However, it seems to change only the background of the dialog boxes.
-
It is new Mike. Nate requested Dark support so I worked on a rev 1. If not all of page is dark, it could be a cache thing that will clear up. Rev 1. More here…

I find it upsetting that you are repeating words. There are hundreds of five letter words that have not been used so I don’t see the point of reusing them. It’s very frustrating.
-
We’re just players here like you Kathy. But New York Times had to start repeating at some point. There is an F.A.Q. under the “Support > Tips & FAQ” menu with more explanation about the problem with the short “common words” answer list.
I’ve learned to adjust to the game and keep enjoying it. Maybe the TIPs will help.

I am getting “Page Not Found” for the nearest neighbours link at URL: https://www.fiveforks.com/wordle/feedback/general/comment-page-3/#comment-1143
-
Thanks Arthur. I made a change to the “General Feedback” url when introducing the new “After Party” section, and it broke any past links. I’ll go patch it up.
-
Arthur,
I updated links on the site. If you have it bookmarked, you add /general/ into the URL after /feedback/ like this:

Will we get a moldy old ton 4/4 ?
-
*moldy oldie 🧙♀️
-
You were spot on – i wish i took more notice of this post – id have used the repeat word as my 2nd guess …..
-
-
I don’t expect a repeat that soon since we had 2 just recently very close together, but anything can happen.
I do expect an added word pretty soon. Maybe that will happen on 4/4.
-
Well, you nailed it. A repeat on 4/4. It wasn’t very old though. SANDY.
What gave the feeling it was going to happen?
-
-
Hello! This page is wonderful, and I use it every day. It has evolved beautifully and is quite useful. I do have one request, though: could you please add a Dark Mode setting or switch? The page is super bright and hard to use at night. Thank you so much for considering this. Keep up the great work!
-
I’ll look into it Nate. Thanks for the feedback!
-
Nate:
Well guess what I worked on all day? There is a toggle button under the Support Menu and also on the Tips & FAQ page to set:
Light / Dark / AutoThe default is “Auto” which means if your Phone / Tablet / Computer is set to Light or Dark mode, this site will switch modes. If you have your device automatically change light by day and dark by night, the site will follow along.
This is rev 1. I learned a lot. Fun. Feedback welcome!
-
Hah. The button works in a comment! 😉
-
Hi Jeb. Wow, it looks AMAZING!! I love it so much! I am beyond impressed that you created the new feature this quickly, thank you so much!

Tomorrow is April Fool’s Day. Do we think that she might sneak in a themed answer like
Repeat
=======
CLOWN (432), JOKER (675), PRANK (1459), TRICK (1543)Unplayed
========
IDIOT, MORON-
You’ve inspired me.
I’m going to start with
REBUT #1 06/20/21-
It was worth a try!
-
FIZZY logic LOL.
-
-
-
-
On 3/30, I had it narrowed down to three possibilities, all reused. COVET (734) was much newer than the others, which were pretty close to each other, TOTEM (77) and COMET (122).
-
I played
ROATE
TOKEN (the only word on the 2315 list that remained)Then I had i narrowed down to
COMET (122)
COVET (734)
HOTEL (744)
MOTEL (1596)So, of course, following Jeb’s tip, I went COMET and I got it in 3.
My wife guessed ROATE, TOTEM, COMET.
-
-
NYT lames out again with their 6th PU word. 🤨
-
7th actually.
-
-
Hmm – have never read the list… just scrolled down to JD’s observations > has debunked my theory that repeats occur circa 9-12 days apart (& reluctance to reuse just cost me 2 extra guesses) 🙄
> I will need to change 1 of my starter word (pretty common, so surprised its not on there) tho’ the new 2 have served me well
1. GAILY
2. DOUSE !
3. CHUMPYour list is invaluable… many thanks 👍
-
I’m keeping the % reuse updated each day at the top of the list. We seem to hover around 10%, but that fluctuates since the time between repeat has a range. But the odds are still way in favor that words are new (not on the Five Forks Wordle past answers list.) If you spot your guess is a 1st year past answer (#0 to #365 and especially first 90) it may well be a repeat!
Thanks for the feedback Glenda!
-
Glenda,
You’re theory is about the same as mine.
What I was saying is that there is either an added or repeated word every five days.
This means a repeated word every 10 days and a added word every 10 days. ON AVERAGE. (Obviously, they vary it a little bit so it isn’t easy for us to guess the exact day when it will happen.)
9-12 days apart would include “every 10 days”. Or as we engineers would say, it’s “within tolerance.”
I presume you are using “GAILY” and “DOUSE” as a pair of starters. This can be a good strategy.
Good luck,
JD
-
Well – glad I didn’t replace my starter word (that’s not on the official list – and which I don’t know where to find…) because I got yesterdays answer in 2 thanks to it – Yay…love a 2 😁
-
-
-
Yesterday, after my second guess, the only remaining options were two words that had already been used. I looked up when they were each used before, and as I expected, the older one was reused.
-
This has worked for me several times. I actually favor “the old words” now!
Thanks for the feedback Sven! -
Did you have it narrowed down to IVORY (59) and GLORY (461)?
I played
=========
ROATE
DROWN
IVORY-
My options were IVORY and ROOMY
-
-
-
The word from 2 days ago, “befit” is listed in the alphabetical list as 174, and not 1741 as in the other…
-
Great catch Rossmf! Fixed. Thanks for keeping the lists straight!
-
-
reuse again [yesterday]. you were right JD
-
JD is a wizard.
-
I agree with a lot of you guys who say that she should just play unplayed words.
There seem to be plenty of them. Certainly, there are a ton of words more common than LORIS and KNELL which she added.
She doesn’t even have to play S and ED words either.
-
Totally agree. its disappointing that they are replaying words when there are plenty of 5-letter words left
-
-
-
A few days ago, i saw that DRAIN (63) and DRAMA (1731) were the farthest consecutive words in term of date, but that made me wonder, what two consecutive words (alphabetically) are the closest in terms of date? As in nearest neighbors instead of distant neighbors
-
Great question SC. I was surprised!
1 apart:
GOLEM #87
GONER #86
ULCER #237
ULTRA #2382 apart:

SUMAC #16744 apart:
LUSTY #88

-
If the current trend continues, there will likely be a repeat tomorrow (or soon after).
-
It’s SNEAK-#496-ING up on us.
-

-
Looking at the repeated words sequence, mostly very early words with one first-year outlier. I wonder if the first two repeats (0 and 296) created a signal saying “first year”:
#0, #296, #4, #51, #15, #59-
I agree. Not only that, but “296” is a clear outlier to the others being within the first 60 (first couple of months or at least the first 100).
There will be an added word in about 5 days.
Another repeat about 6 days after that.
There seems to be attempt to randomize it a little.
=======================
There are 604 words left in the list. If there were no additional adds or repeats that would take us out to November 22,2027.
In order to finish 2027, she would need to add or repeat another 40 times.
Since CIGAR, 5 Repeats, 5 Adds. Equal numbers of each.
About 1 every 5 days.
604 words left implies about 66 words added or repeated at the current pace. That would take us out to Jan 27th, 2028
I am not sure that 12/31/27 is the date she is targeting to finish the original 2315 list, but I wonder what is.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see the rate of repeats increase as we get much closer to the end of the list. Otherwise, the game will be too easy (especially for people who use this list.)
I am currently scanning the 10663 playable word list for words I think she should / could add like “DOUSE”, “FUTON”, “INSET”, “KAPUT”, and “BOGUS”. I’m only up to “Q”
After that, there should be a complete reset.

On Sunday 3/8/26 the word I guessed correctly was “hobby” but your list has “lobby” for #1723. Could this be another example of the word changing during the day? “Hobby” was also the word on July 24, 2023 puzzle #765.
thanks!-
That’s a mystery Amy and thanks for reporting it. Perhaps some of the other Five Forks Wordle auditors can weigh in, but here is my two cents:
The answer on 3/8/26 was indeed LOBBY. The answer HOBBY was 7/24/23, and I’ve seen no reports of it repeating. That would have been big news for 1) the word HOBBY to repeat and 2) two different rhyming answers be on the same day!
One place I check for such news is Reddit’s Wordle forum which has a dedicated space for each day. I only see “LOBBY” answers here and no buzz about HOBBY. Link: Reddit Wordle Mar 8th
I can’t think of any way Wordle would have accepted HOBBY as the answer on 3/8, but I can tell you about a similar experience I had with rhyming words– one time I thought I had finished and “saw” all 5 green squares. But the “Share” button (which I use with my sibs) would not show. I refreshed and thought something was wrong.
Then I noticed I had only gotten 4 green squares. My brain was being too aspirational and filling in the 5th green! Needed more coffee.
There have been no “two word” answer days in years. The early problem was associated with NYT buying the site, making a few edits, and not realizing the code was not built for force-pushing edits. (The founder did not do edits.)
But the ways of Wordle are mysterious! 😉
-
I found this person on Reddit also tried HOBBY:
ChardeeMacDennisGoG 13d ago
Scoredle 4/6*
⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜ PASTE (1,195)
🟨🟩⬜⬜⬜ BOUND (24)
⬜🟩🟩🟩🟩 HOBBY (5)
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 LOBBY-
On that Reddit post, what do those numbers in parentheses mean?
-
The numbers show how far that guess narrowed down the possible answers. This is a feature of WordleBot (paid) or Scordle (free).
-
-
-
Maybe I’m crazy. I’ve been pretty diligent about logging the answers in my spreadsheet. Thanks for the reply.
-
-
-
the originator’s list is missing some obvious words (delay post if necessary)
-
There are two originator (Josh Wardle) lists– allowed guesses (about 12,000) and a subset of common word answers (about 3,000). NYT has added some words and tweaked some answers. I don’t know the contents of either list other than past answers. (I don’t seek future information.) What do you mean by missing some obvious words?
-
I didn’t know there are two lists so I was referring to the 3000 one. When I got a green on my first letter today the first word that came to mind was my second and correct guess and I was surprised it hadn’t been used and not on his list, so my reference to “obvious” related to his “common”. Sorry for confusing you.
-
Got it! Congrats on winning with a 2 today. That was a tricky word. And yes, there are hundreds of “new” words remaining on the shorter answer list which is why NYT is able to keep using new words about 90% of the time. But at some point that rate has got to shift, unless they want to dig into less common words, which I think is against the spirit of winning in at least 6 (stated by NYT editor and John Wardle.)
Thanks for the feedback Paul!
-
-
There are 2 word lists in Wordle. The answer list which was 2315 words. They removed 6 words from that list; so, it’s 2309 words that they started with. There are 608 unplayed words left from that list. There is a second list. 10,663 playable words. 36 words have been the answer from this list. They were added by Tracy Bennett. The last one was OASIS on 3/20/26 (Friday).
Programmers able to absolutely determine this by looking at Wordle javascript code very early on.

Did anyone notice that she had “DRAMA” as the answer a day after the Oscars?
-
I thought she said she learned her lesson about aligning words with events or holidays early on and stopped doing that. Many Wordlers got mad. She acknowledged the use of 0# CIGAR tied to Ground Hog Day was purposeful (of course — and funny I thought) but that would not be a trend.
But coincidences are fun too!
-
Yes, I caught that too. And got it in two because of the connection! Coincidence or causality, it made me smile. 🎭

At last, a new first place distant neighbor pair!

re: but less than 3,000 of those are considered common enough to be answers – common enough by whose definition ?? I found the following most uncommon: SUMAC, GUNKY, HYDRA, SEGUE, MYRRH, TIZZY, ATRIA, DATUM, FRITZ, LORIS …. etc. hundreds to use that are more common ( I know, ho-hum, broken record) 🙄 I have however begun to get my head around repeats & look out for them @ the 1-2 week mark, getting yesterdays in 2 😁 – there is such a satisfaction in that!

Agreed! Move our cheese, and we’ll go find it. Congrats on the 2! -
You can look up how common words are on the Corpus of Contemporary American English Site. (Helps if you’re a college professor like me to get the login though or AI can look it up for you.)

It seems to me that the reuse of wordle words simply has the effect of raising your daily score by one, and hurting your average score as a result. I eliminate all the unused possibilities and as a last resort end up choosing a word already used according to the Five Forks table. I still favor using unused words of course…
-
My experience was positive for 4 out of the 5 repeat days. For three of those days, my row 2 guesses were very old words (first month) so I decided to go with them. There is luck in that for me to have thought of the word, of course, but I’m giving old words a lot of consideration. I happen to have gotten a “1” on Ground Hog Day guessing the first repeat word would be #0 CIGAR and not knowing what else to guess. I’m updating http://www.fiveforks.com/wordle/tips/ as we learn more.
Thanks for the feedback Bruce!

Hey Jeb! I just saw your post about the Tips & FAQs. Didn’t realize one of them was about checking older words for repeats, which was the subject of my previous post. Thanks again for this great service. 🙂
-
Hah. Thanks for the follow up Mosher! I’ll keep promoting the TIPS and FAQ page.
-

The archive is quite useful even though we have duplicate words now. Yesterday, I was trying to decide between GRAVE and GRADE for my second word. They were both in the archive. I noticed that GRAVE was word #1615 and GRADE was word #15. Thanks to JD posting highlights of the interview with Wordle Editor Tracy Bennett, I know she chooses early numbered words to repeat. That made it easy for me to choose GRADE. Thanks!
-
I will treat my second or third guess the same way. If it is an OLD word and I really want to use it if only for a good filter, I will use it. I have gotten solved 3 of the repeat days in two guesses that way, which is a lot of luck but also the list paid off.
-
I chose GRAPE and GRAZE – neither of which have been used – and was annoyed to fail yesterday when I ran out of guesses and the winning word was a repeat.
-
GM: When my guess is a first-year word, especially first months, I go ahead and use it. That has paid off 3 times for me on repeat days so far, but that’s also a lot of luck. See the TIPS & FAQs page for using Five Forks Wordle in this new age of repeats.
I like your GRAZE guess, though. Going bold with a Z!
-
I went
1) ROATE (narrows it down to GRAPE, GRAZE, DRAKE)
2) GRAPE (narrowed it down to GRAZE)
3) GRAZE (eliminated all possibilities on the 2315 list. So, it had to be a repeat of either GRACE #918, GRADE #15 or GRAVE #1615)
4) GRADE (selecting the earliest puzzle)I had 2 guesses left; so, there was no risk in guessing GRADE, GRACE and GRAVE in that order.

Hey Jeb!
1) first of all, your F.F.F. list, site, feedback, etc is OUTSTANDING!!! As an officially OCD/ADHD-diagnosed person, I’m loving it 😉. Keep up the good work!
2) as per your request to refrain from providing any spoiler info during the current playing window, [which for Wordle #1730 would be Sunday, 3/15/26, 12:01am, EDT to Monday, 3/16/26, 6:00am EDT (Hawaii time, Sunday midnight), correct?], I held off posting the following “comment/caveat”…
3) “Beware the Ides of March!”
4) it might be kind of a stretch calling it a spoiler but I wanted to hold off til after the solving day closed just to be sure.-
Et tu, JJ? 🙂 I think that would have been a pretty obscure warning, since you were not overtly warning “repeat!” I first tried to figure out what GRADE had to do with the Romans. I then noticed another historical day mixed into your caution: GRADE #15 07/04/21. Thanks JJ!

Answer for Sunday March 15 2026 is a repeat word that was not highlighted in yellow. Very unhappy about this since it did affect my number of try’s. Please correct this mistake.
-
Not a mistake Marcie. To do that would be a bit of a cheat, but it requires explaining…
This is a past answers only list (no spoilers for today.) To reveal that a word repeats today would involve using future information. I’d have to set my computer’s date to tomorrow, play, and bring that information “back from the future” to update today’s list. That crosses a “spoiler” line.
Hope that makes sense.
-
P.S.
The list is still very useful (for now) but you have to change your strategy some. Take a look at the “TIPS & FAQs” link at the top of the list.
-
-
-
It would be lovely to see the @ sign on the chronological side as well. Just a thought – thanks for this great game!
-
The @ appears on both the CHRON and ALPHA side. However not until the day after a repeat. It’s just like today’s answer doesn’t appear today. No spoiler. For me to indicate a repeat today would require looking ahead and would be a bit of a cheat.
-
-
I didn’t miss a day of playing wordle, yet it shows I did. Why did that happen? (It did on all the word games)
-
My stats are also off. I think it may have to do with switching devices. Sometimes I play on a tablet or phone, but usually I play on a computer. I know to play logged in, but I still think a cookie goes bad. Who knows?
-
-
repeat today
-
Today’s word was another repeat! There are many 5 letter words left untouched, why do they do this?
-
I need to work up an FAQ to explain this, but here is a stab– An important part of Wordle’s design is it has about 12,000 words you are allowed to guess, but less than 3,000 of those are considered common enough to be answers. This smaller “common” list is designed so that over 95% of people will “win” each day. Wordle wants to avoid player frustration. The smaller common list is running out and why they have to start repeating words.
Personally, I think they should shuffle the entire deck each year creating a new random answers list, but I’m not in charge! I just play each day.
See the “TIPS & FAQs” link at the top of the list on how to tweak your strategy with the Five Forks Wordle list.
Thanks for the feedback Isabelle!

Good morning! I used the list today and Wordle in 2! Yay! And Thank you!
-
Congrats CP! Today was a tough word. My sibs and I were in the 4 / 5 / 6 range. What was your starter?
-
Jeb and CarolPro
I started with NARES on Mar. 14 and solved in three, using the list to eliminate the ANGLE (#1374) step that many players took. Thank you for keeping it up so conscientiously and avoiding the looking into the future that some lists are doing!-
Jeb and CarolPro
I think I was talking about the puzzle of Mar. 14 when you two meant the puzzle of the day before your post, i.e. Mar. 13, game number 1728. I solved that Wordle in 5 steps and I completely agree that it was a tough one. I thought of words beginning with consonants instead of E. I still used the list or I might have not solved at all!

Jeb,
You mentioned that the NYT Wordle computer had twice malfunctioned while tabulating a continuous record of your results. Me too, but today was number three. Is anything to be done? I was giving their Bot a run for his life. It was said somewhere he only goes back 90 days to winnow out “used” prior answers. Love that you go back to day “0”-
Don, I quit paying attention to the NYT stats on my record. I play across different devices and browsers, and I think it has a hard time keeping track of me. I screen cap my results every day to have a record, but mainly I just play, share results with sibs, and then create a list update scheduled for a 6 a.m. ET tomorrow. And then I read and reply to comments! Thanks Don!

I’m writing this when the most recent solution posted is March 9th’s, HASTY. March 9th is the 36th day that repeated solutions have been possible (27 days in February and 9 days in March). So for some time now I have been perplexed that the “Reuse” and “New” counts keep adding up to one more than the number of days that repeats have been possible.
Today’s counts add to 37:
Since Feb 2:
Reuse (4) New (33)I assumed that this would be noticed and corrected, but it hasn’t happened yet. As long as the “Reuse” count is correct, it would matter little, except that you calculate an erroneous percentage when the “New” count is wrong.
Having said that, I am immensely grateful to the people who so carefully curate this list. I used a different list before finding this one, and twice it included that day’s word in its list of solutions. The first time it cost me my streak, because I refused to guess the word that I thought had been used already, even though it was the obvious choice.
-
Thanks for the feedback Mark. I got ahead by 1 on the NEW count as some point, so I have just corrected. With the 6 a.m. ET update (after your comment) we are now at 4 reuse + 33 new = 37 since Feb 2. That’ a 4/37 = 10.8% reuse rate.
The reason I’m keeping an eye on this rate is because the closer it gets to 50% the less less useful the past answers list is because we get to a random chance on “new” vs “reuse”. It’s possible we start swinging to a 75% reuse rate (given the larger population) and in that case the list becomes useful on that side of the swing.
Just guessing! Thanks again!
-
I have it as 35 added words and 4 repeats (as of yesterday).
She altered her pattern of every 4 as of late.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see 2 in a row (either adds, repeats or a mixture of both)
-
-
The answer for Sat. March 7, 2026 was the first word in 16 days (since Feb. 19) that had the letter ‘O’ in it.
-
O my. 😉
-
Okay, you got me going on this one. After manually finding a long stretch for “U,” I decided to use AI for all the usual vowels. Well, after a lot of pointing out its hallucinations (I checked and then “schooled” it about a dozen times) I finally came up with this (hopefully correct) “record” list:
A (9 days): SOLAR (#211 01/16/22) and SUGAR (#220, 01/25/22)
E (6 days): UPSET (#405, 07/29/22) and RHYME (#411, 08/04/22)
I (7 days): TIBIA (#449, 09/11/22 and STICK (#456, 09/18/22)
O (16 days): HOIST (#1706, 02/19/26) and VOGUE (#1722, 03/07/26)
U (17 days): SUITE (#1417, 05/06/25) and SHUCK (#1434, 05/23/25)-
Nice stats Mike! U wins… or loses? I’m surprised about O.
What about Y?
-
Gemini was really hallucinating on Y, and I got tired scolding it. I’ll work on it again soon and also do some consonants.

HITCH 1065 05/19/24
BRINY 1064 05/18/24

PINCH 1061 05/15/24
AMASS 1060 05/14/24
CUMIN 1059 05/13/24I keep my own list with notations and and I had this noted at the time as seven days in a row with no ‘E’.
-
Excellent. So that’s the same as saying eight days until the next “E” word. Do you agree with the others, and do you have record spans for other letters?
-
-
“Excellent. So that’s the same as saying eight days until the next “E” word. Do you agree with the others, and do you have record spans for other letters?”
I’ve only been keeping the list since #1039, so a little under two years. And now looking back I found another I noted at the time:
CORAL 1510 08/07/25
GROAN 1509 08/06/25

BANJO 1504 08/01/25
FRILL 1503 07/31/25
ASSAY 1502 07/30/25nine in a row with no ‘E’.
And here’s nineteen days in a row with no ‘U’:
ROWER 1310 01/19/25

Now that they are using “repeats” (recycled words), do you think they will recycle the “repeated” word as well, or are they burning the “repeat” after it has been used?
-
My guess is answers will not appear a 3rd time for 5 years, but that is only based on NYT having a non-random way of introducing a small set of past words from year one.
I think they should reshuffle the answer deck on January 1 and let everyone know. You can’t get too mad at a random shuffle.
We’ll know more as the year goes on.
Thanks Jonathan!
-
Agreed. A 1/1 annual shuffle would make sense.
-
-
-
Please tell me that I’m not the only one who thought yesterday’s word was just dumb. GUNKY? Seriously?? 😑 Sorry, had to vent.
-
I’ll see your vent and raise you an eye roll! There are better UNKY words.
-
-
Cigar has been repeated
threetwo times.
6-19-21
5-12-25
2-2-26-
Michelle,
CIGAR has only been used twice. It was the first word #0 in the game (6/19/21) and so NYT decided to give CIGAR a “hat tip” on Ground Hog Day to be the first word repeated (2/2/26.) That was a one-off humorous (?) way to introduce the idea of repeating words. Repeat words are supposed to be more random go forward but TBD on that.
-
-
I really appreciate having the Search function. It makes checking whether a word was ever used – and when – quicker. The design is uncomplicated and slick. Very nice work!
-
Thanks Mosher! It really helps with iPhone or iPad where on-page search is hard to find. Apple buries it under the “Share” button for some reason.
-
-
Missing “SCENE” in block list used on 2/10/26 maybe?
-
Great spot Jim! I ran an audit on all 3 lists, and that was the only gap. Thanks!
-
-
There are plenty of five letter words they haven’t used. I am very disappointed that they are reusing words. I have been using the same word now for a while and it’s not on the used list.
-
Only about 1 in 10 are repeats right now, so new words are still in play. Roughly 3,000 words are common enough to be answers. But the “candidate” list has 12,000 words you can guess. The “common” aspect is very important to avoiding player frustration. As they get closer to running out of those common words, they’ve had to start repeating them. We knew it was coming, but we weren’t sure how they would shuffle the deck.
-
-
Why were there two answers for 324 and 325?
-
When NYT bought Wordle, they started making a few edits early on for [reasons]. But the technology was not built to insure the edits went out to everyone right away, so there would be days when two words (original and replacement) were played by different Wordlers. They fixed that after a few months, so we don’t see that anymore. Thanks for asking Gerry!
-
I now complete my Wordle far more quickly, as I’m not constantly checking for previously used words.
I’m not sure whether this is a good thing or not!
However, I make sure that my starter word is not in the list of burned words to give me a slightly better chance of hitting it in one!!
-
I’m still checking the list with the added twist of considering re-using first year words (#0 to #365) for guess 2 if it is a good filter. Twice that has paid off.
-
-
-
-
I am referencing the entry line “Reuse sequence” which appears at the very beginning below the line…
Reuse (4) New (28) = 12.5% ….
Sequence line needs the forth addition of (#51)
-
I see. I missed updating it on the BLOCK list. I was looking at MAIN.
I struggle with keeping the BLOCK list because it does not contain sequence #s, dates, repeat timing gaps, etc, like the ALPHA and CHRON on MAIN. Plus it appears first year words are what have been added into the repeat pool. The BLOCK list just doesn’t help with any of that.
Fixed. Thanks Don!

For all interested . On January 9th, 2023. Tracy Bennett (New York Times Editor of Wordle) was interviewed on the Today Show. Here is the link.
A bunch of things I learned from this.
===========================================
1) They did start with Josh Wardle’s 2315 word list.2) She works 6 weeks ahead. (Meaning the all the Wordle answers are known defined for the next 6 weeks).
3) Wardle’s original list was supposed to last through 2027.
4) She specifically mentions (even back then) that they will start repeating words before they run out.
5) Par (like in golf) for Wordle is 4 guesses.
6) She is trying to make it solvable in 6 guesses.
7) She is trying to not pick words that are too obscure (What’s up with LORIS then!)
8) She also said it would be free, but it’s hard to fight signing up for that subscription! (I haven’t done it yet. I lost my Wordle history twice.)
-
Nice recap JD. Thanks!
-
-
You have not posted the 4th repeating number’s sequence (51) number .
-
Don, LINEN’s repeat was posted the day after (yesterday) at 6 a.m. ET. Try refreshing your page. If that doesn’t work, you can use the blue recycle button at the top of the list to do a “cache busting” refresh.
Clip from Alpha list:
LINEN 51

The first word to be reused occurred in the month of February. 2/2/26
This month, March, it occurred on 3/3/26.
So, next month, will the first repeat of the month of April be on 4/4/26?
Could be a pattern forming.-
Santiago, There have been 4 words to repeat so far. The number of days between them has varied: 15, then 4, then 10.
Four words is not a lot to go on, but so far we are seeing about 12% re-use rate since the first repeated word, and all four are “old” words from the first year of play.
-
Yes !! I was thinking esoteric holidays like Pi day, ides of March etc, but 4/4, 5/5 and 6/6, etc- I like it ! Seems likely unless the goddess reads this chat 😉
-
-
PLEASE STOP REPEATING WORDS. There are still plenty of unused five-letter words; when those are used up, then repeat, for godsake. Thank you.
-
Marsha, This site has no control or influence over what New York Times does with Wordle. This site was created to help make playing Wordle more fun. The list of common words had to repeat at some point, so here we are trying to figure that out.

Recent Trends in Wordle Answers.
Date – Puzzle – Answer – Result
============================================
2/02/26 – 1689 – CIGAR – Repeat #1 (Puzzle #1)
2/13/26 – 1700 – MOOCH – Added to List (32nd word added)
2/17/26 – 1704 – SQUAD – Repeat #2 (Puzzle #296)
2/21/26 – 1708 – AWAKE – Repeat #3 (Puzzle #4)
2/25/26 – 1712 – SHRED – Added to List (33rd word added)
2/28/26 – 1715 – HYDRA – Added to List (34th word added)
3/03/26 – 1718 – LINEN – Repeat #4 (Puzzle #51)
=======================================
You can see once MOOCH was played, an added or repeated word happened every 4 days. Then, it accelerated to every 3 days.Past CIGAR, there are equal numbers of added and repeated words (3 each).
If the trend continues, I expect an added or repeated word on 3/6 or 3/7. Since, it looks like pairs. My guess is another repeat.
If it is a repeat, it will be an early word again.
-
3/06/26 – 1721 – GUNKY – Added to List (35th word added)
3/10/26 – 1725 – Repeated Word Coming?? (#5)
-
-
Is there a repeat pattern: 2/2/2026 and 3/3/2026? Will 4/4/2026 be the next in this sequence? Too soon to tell.
-
Thanks for pattern watching, Sarah! The spacing looks somewhat random right now, running around 10% re-use. Here they are in a list:
WORD * REPEAT SEQ# DATE * DAYS PASSED * ORIGINAL SEQ# DATE
CIGAR * #1689 02/02/26 * n.a. * #0 06/19/21
SQUAD * #1704 02/17/26 * 15 * #296 04/11/22
AWAKE * #1708 02/21/26 * 4 * #4 06/23/21
LINEN * #1718 03/03/26 * 10 * #51 08/09/21The # of days between repeat are: 15, 4, 10
The only pattern I’m seeing is roughly 1 in 10 days average are repeats and all repeats are from year 1 (#365 or less.)
-
See my post above to see my analysis of the trend.

Jeb,
Just a couple of reminders:
Add #51 to TIP 3
FEEDBACK link after TIP 4 should take you to new Feedback page?
Hope I’m not being a nag: one of my duties in a previous job was to follow links on the website to look for broken or outdated ones. I know your work has become much more complicated in the new Wordle.
Thanks for all you do on Five Forks!-
Thank you ADK! #51 added, and I had a broken href in the Feedback link. And no nagging at all. You guys help keep the site tidy!

-
In the Block List which I refer to daily it did not show LINEN as a previous winner. But your alphabetical list and chronological list show it won on August 9, 2021. It allowed me to use it today, not thinking it had ever been a winner.
-
I’m not following Cheryl. LINEN has been on ALPHA, CHRON, and BLOCK lists since August 10, 2021 (the day after it was an answer on August 9.) Yesterday (3/3/26) it was a repeated answer, the 4th repeat NYT has used since it announced it would start doing that on Ground Hog Day.
The list is “past” answers through yesterday, so there will be no spoiler. As such, I do not update any answer (repeat or new) until the next day to avoid spoiler information. Indicating a word repeated on day of play would be spoiler-ish. Today you will see the repeat indicators on all three lists for LINEN.
May I recommend using the MAIN list now instead of BLOCK because it has date and sequence information? I added a “search” field to help. The reason is it appears (for now) that word age matters on repeats. So far the answers have been from first year (first 365 answers.)
With repeats being allowed, take a look at the TIPS & FAQs link at the top of the list.
Thanks for the feedback!
-
-
Hello, i rarely post, but want to find out what’s the reason. Today (3/3/26) I checked possible answers to this list and it was on the used list. So I get to the 5th try and the only other word it could be was the one that was already on the used word list. Entered it, and that was the answer. This is the 3rd time. TYIA for insight.
-
Patricia,
This site is the Past Answers List and does not include any information from today to avoid spoiling. That includes new words or (now) repeat words. I don’t make any changes to the past record of answers, but on the next day after a word repeats, it now appears twice on the Main ALPHA and CHRON lists. That doesn’t help you today, though.
I could go play tomorrow’s game early and bring back information from the future to give everyone a hint, but that crosses a line and would be spoiler-ish. (And I personally want to play the same time everyone else does.)
Right now the odds are 90% chance the answer will be new (not on list) but 10% it will be a repeat (on list). But it also looks like repeats are only coming from the first year of answers, so you can include that in your strategy. I will now use old words sometimes if it looks like a really good guess.
See the TIPS & FAQs link at the top of the list for more ideas on using the list.
Thanks for the feedback!
-
-
Wordle has started reusing words. Some of your words listed as used are being used again. It would be helpful if you would update your list daily.
-
The list is past words used through yesterday. No spoiler. This means I cannot use information from today or future games to manipulate the list. I would have to set my computer 36 hours ahead, play the game, and then update the list to bring information back from the future.
It is proving helpful to see that a word is “old” (first year so far) to identify it as a candidate for repeat. See TIPS & FAQs link at top of list for using the list.
Thanks Bruce!

Follow-up RE: chronological list of past Wordle answers—
My previous comment applies to using an iPhone in vertical, portrait position where the chrono list no longer displays in column two adjacent to alphabetical list.
We found that rotating the phone to landscape mode did display both columns, but many of us playing Wordle on our phone don’t want to fuss with rotating the phone back and forth.
-
The design is meant to work vertical and make the text as large as possible and fit at 100% (Actual) mode. See my other reply. Will tweak further.
-
Cindy:
Just did some tweaking that allows an iPhone to be set to 125% zoom, and the two columns will remain side by side. I tested it and seems to solve. Hope that helps!
-
-
-
Please return to display the chronological last of past Wordle answers in column two so those show adjacent to the alphabetical list.
The inconvenience of scrolling, scrolling and still scrolling down to the chrono list makes me not want to use your site.
At the very least, have a link near the page top so we can jump to the top if the chronological list.
-
Cindy,
This has to do with making room for the repeat @ symbol. If you set your phone browser to “Actual” (100%) view size, the two lists have been optimized to fit. That being said, I can tweak the design some more to avoid the “list stack” from happening too soon. Thanks for the feedback.

-
Another recycled word today and my “seed word” still hasn’t hit! 😤
-
Sarah, Your seed word may never be used depending on how “common” it is (which is subjective.) The design is to keep the game fun for the most people (and not frustrating.) Wordle allows about 12,000 words to be guessed, but only about 3,000 will be used as answers based on a “common” level. As the 3,000 was being used up, the editors decided to start recycling words vs. adding less common words.
-
I don’t understand their decision to reuse words when there are 9000 unused words!! It doesn’t make sense to me.😡
-
-
-
I quit! It’s now a waste of time. It’s pitiful to have made this mistake because it has been a good game until now. I still have over five hundred words on my “possible” list. Ridiculous! 😜
According to Google, budge is a used word, but it’s not on the list , or, it wasn’t as of 2200 last night.-
Jose, I’ve had to reframe how I play the game now that words can be re-used. You may want to take a look at the “LIST TIPS” link at the top of http://www.fiveforks.com/wordle.
I can confirm “budge” is not a used word. The Five Forks Wordle list has several people doing a lot of work to keep it accurate. I know because I see what happens when I make a mistake! 😉
I do not use or trust any “future” data information in terms of “eligible words” vs. “eligible answers”. Those often come from older code extracts, and are not reliable given that the editors do mix things up. And personally I don’t want to use future data because that crosses some line. Past answers are just a factual experience we all share.
I’m enjoying the game, and the list still helps for now. Good luck!

Also, THANK YOU for this website!

I’ll keep it up as long as it proves useful. See the LIST TIPS link at the top if you have not already. Thanks CarolPro!

I have played 1411 wordles, but now that the NYT has decided to reuse words I’m not sure I want to continue. Are there other players who feel this way?
-
I’m finding the game still fun, but I’ve had to reframe. If I think of a good answer, find it on the list, but see that it is an old word (first year for now) then I’m ok playing it. It’s working out because if nothing else I am able to use good filter words at guess 2 or 3.
-
Not for me. I actually think it improves the game, requires more strategy.

How about @ followed by the repeat number, e.g., “@2”? Then we could have our searchable cake and eat it, too.
-
Thank you for this wonderfully comprehensive list and the variations it provides. I use it every day. How disappointing that they are reusing winning answers with so many words left unused!
-
I just want to thank you for making this list and keeping it up to date with the latest information. My husband use it every day. I appreciate you!

You are welcome Sally!

Jeb,
I think I noticed one of the words that appears next to each other in the two lists. I hesitate to identify it today, but I’ll check back tomorrow and see if anyone found it. I think you have a term for this, but I don’t remember it!
FF forever!-
NEVERMIND:-)
The word was FAITH: today on separate lines. I’m not sure how that happened, but that’s why I’m a list user not a list creator/curator!
I’m using your hints in every game.
Thanks for your hard work!-
The “eclipse” can be fleeting, lasting just one day. What happens is, the CHRON list on the right is always being pushed down from the top one word at a time. All words shift. But the same word on the ALPHA list appears somewhat randomly on the left from A to Z, so you get some words on the left moving down at a slower pace than the words on the right. The closer to “Z” a word is, the more likely it will be pushed down on both sides, so a longer “eclipse”. The closer to “A” the more likely it will not move down on the left but will on the right. None of it means anything, but they are fun to spot.
-
I did some calculating. Next two “eclipses” to line up will be:
LOYAL #829
SWILL #245-
JEB,
Thanks for the explanation: eclipse is the perfect term as they can be predicted.

I play 2 Wordle games daily. One at “wordlenyt.io” and the other at “nytimes.com…”
There are always different answers . Today was the first day they had the same answer. Because of that I searched “was today the first time both Wordle games had the same answer” and I couldn’t get confirmation there are two games. Very confused.
Are there 2 different games? I mean, I’m playing twice a day and stats are accumulated separately. The page sites look very different.
What’s the story/-
Well that is a mystery. I wonder if “wordlenyt.io” is their development copy? I know techies will use .io domain (input / output) for development. You’ve found a way to have double the fun!

I asked Grok the Lawyer:
The website wordlenyt.io appears to be an unauthorized clone or variant of the popular word puzzle game Wordle… Based on an analysis of the site’s content and relevant legal precedents, it likely constitutes both trademark and copyright infringement.

Could you put a superscript behind the ‘new’ words (like LORIS) and highlight them in another color in the Block List?
That would help to analyze the frequency of these words.-
David,
This list is the past answers based on what we all experience when we play with no spoiler information based on future or proprietary information or code. I’m not clear how I would know what words have been added or removed from the list other than the few in the early NYT months that they announced.
Does highlighting newly added words help in some way? Perhaps because they are more likely future answers?
