Five Forks Wordle List Cloud

Dynamic Filter

The two search/filter fields let you search based on INCLUDE patterns like:

GAR, G?R, ??GAR or just @ for repeats.

The EXCLUDE accepts any number of letters of “burned” gray letters or letters you want to exclude. It is not pattern based.

You can use either INCLUDE or EXCLUDE or both.

wordle-search-ex1

In the example above, I typed “AND” and any word with “AND” in it is found and the AND is underlined in red. There are 11 matches.

You can use a “?” as a wildcard character(s).

wordle-search-ex2

In the example above I narrowed the search to words starting with ?? which means only match the last 3 letters. There are now 6 matches.

Here I’ve excluded answers with an S or a B, narrowing the filter down to 2 matches.

wordle-search-ex3

You can use the EXCLUDE field alone. Here I eliminated all vowels to reveal a short list of “Y only” words:

Thank you for providing so many examples! These examples and the filters will really help your fans. Great work!

  2. Very cool and useful. Thanks, Jeb!

Can you exclude letters that have not worked?

    1. That’s a great question Carrie. The problem is the filter (site) has no idea what you have guessed so far. I could add a second field where you type in “skip letters” maybe?

      1. Added new EXCLUDE field. Any letter(s) can be typed to filter out those results. Good for excluding “burned” (gray) letters.

Jeb, you are the BEST!! πŸ’―πŸ’―πŸ’―πŸ’―πŸ’― I used a different PU site initially, but didn’t care for the Block-style format. When I found your website, I loved it because you gave players a choice. You’ve continued to add tweaks to your already perfect tool, making it better and better. FiveForks is always the most recommended PU website on Wordle Review.

I didn’t see this new search tool in time to use it for SMILE, but it looks very, very intriguing and useful. I can’t wait to try it!!

    Thanks Jeb!! πŸŒŸβ€οΈπŸ‘πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ’―πŸ«ΆπŸ’•πŸ’₯

      Jeb,

As I hit submit, I realized that last paragraph was completely false. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€ͺ My sleep deprived brain had forgotten I’d already played with the new search. I simply didn’t need the help for SMILE because it was a checkmate. 🀣🀣 Oh well, I guess this proves you should never comment when you’re sleep deprived. πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«πŸ˜‚

This was great. My first guess word eliminated all but eight words (using Word Finder) I then used this app to designate their appearance placement- ranks, zeroed in on the four earliest and solved in 3

    Thanks very much,
    Don Northrop

    1. You are welcome Don! Glad it helps.

    jeb:

greetings. i believe your dynamic filter is absolutely awesome and a game changer. i use it every day i play.

i do have one suggestion/comment that you may or may not be able to address.

when moving from the empty box to any combination of letters, including just one, the results are always instantaneous. this is even true when rearranging letters or the “?” as well.

the issue i see is when i am clearing the box by deleting the last lone character. i have even tested a select all/delete. the repaint of the starting screen (the initial empty box) takes about two seconds.

so when you back completely out of a guess for example that refresh hesitation makes you wonder if you actually hit delete for the last character.

i am used to it now and work around it, usually by always leaving at least one character in the box while building a new template.

i just wanted to pass this observation along in the event that you have a solution for it.

again, thank you, thank you for coding up this totally awesome tool.

    cheers,
    clark

uhhh, recent tune up? whatever you did, she’s a hummin’ now for sure. πŸ‘

i didn’t need/use the df yesterday but happened to notice today that it was doing a first screen refresh without any hesitation.

that got my attention so i ran through some tests like i had done when reporting on that detail. i don’t think it was anything on my end, like a caching issue. whatever happened that changed, she’s runnin’ like a champ now. woohoo!

      bravo! very nice work!

      cheers,
      clark

      1. Thanks for the feedback on this. I made a technical change yesterday but did not think about it improving performance, but surely it did. It has to do with emoji / unicode displays. All of our green / yellow / gray / black squares we post in with our wordle grids (and any other emojis) were being displayed using WordPress svg images instead of the unicode (text) values we all paste in. I discovered this when copy / pasting other people’s grids and kept getting giant svg images. WordPress is trying to help people with very old browsers see unicode characters, but most of us do not need this “help” and WordPress isn’t good about that.

I put in a patch that disables this “help” and everything looks just fine in different test browsers I have, including old ones. And now copy/pasting grids off Five Forks Wordle work. (I’m working on a Wordle Grid Art gallery idea which is why this came up.)

You make a great observation though. Every little green / yellow / black / gray square on the site now displays much quicker because they are, in effect, text now and not WordPress image calls. Accidental performance enhancement!

        Thanks doing the calc kralc!

I love it!!! πŸ’•πŸ’• I especially love the wildcard use, for those times when the known letters aren’t consecutive. I used it for the dilemma I was facing today and it worked wonderfully!

FiveForks has been my go to site for PU words since the day I discovered it. I love the alphabetical list personally, but the fact you kept a block list as well, is just one reason this is the best website for PU words.

Just when I think this website can’t possibly get any better, you present us with another new feature we didn’t know we desperately needed.

That is awesome! Thank you for the features.
I need to spend more time here. I slacked off after NYTImes starting repeating words, but how often will that really happen. I think I just asked for a feature. 🀭

    1. Right now the odds float between 10% to 12% of a repeat word. Odds updated daily at the top of the list. But then the list helps with spotting old word repeats vs newer. I routinely bet on old words repeating if they help filter. I’ve been right 3 times. Swing by the After Party after you play!

Words perfectly on Macbook in Chrome.

However, I’ve been searching with Cmd+F in the browser on your site and then the word is already entered when I switch to the tab for Weighted Bottles to capture the rankings of the words.
So I’d have to try this for a week or 2 to let you know for sure if it’s “better,” but I suspect it will be.

    1. I also used cmd F on my Mac, but the list is proving both quick and more useful with the ? feature for me.

Love the filter!! I have been wanting to do regular expressions on this list for a while, so this is perfect. The implementation is easy to understand, easy to use, and super effective. Gr??t job!!

    1. Thanks for the feedback Albough! I’m a big fan of regex but it’s like knowing a language, so I was trying to keep as simple as possible. Although I could get the code to accept regex commands if provided for those who are native Regexians. Hmmm…

  21. Jeb,
Sorry to be a partypooper, but I’m not able to make use of the dynamic filter. I’m glad that it appeals to others and I admire your coming up with it. I am a notorious outlier so there’s that…Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

    1. Checking in ADK. Are you still unable (or prefer not to) use the filter? I wasn’t clear if it was broken or just not useful in your way of play.

      1. If I am mistaken about this please correct me. I believe the filter is a shortcut to find words that would be guesses, like batch, catch, etc. so that PU ones can be ignored or rated lower depending on how recently a repeat occurred.
My primary reason for playing Wordle is improving my memory and trying to evade the dementia that has plagued members of my family. I have little interest in solving in the fewest steps or the shortest time, competing with others, maintaining a long streak, etc. I find that the process of searching and being exposed to different words is important to improving memory, so not all shortcuts are helpful. I understand that I am an outlier in all this, but so be it.
Thank you for all the hard work you do maintaining the Five Forks list.

  22. Love this, very clever thanks for adding.

  29. I like it. I searched for ???ER because I’ve read somewhere that it’s a common pattern in Wordle words. I saw 101 results but none of them were repeats. I wonder if that will make this pattern more (or less) likely to repeat in the future.
