A busy day with church, watching one of the grandkids play Flag Football, and spending time with family.
Crane led to 8 NU words. It took me an hour of testing the words to decide that Dried would probably give me the best shot at ruling in/out the 8 words which included Dried. Thankfully, Dried led to Dress. πŸ™‚

Jeb, from about 1:30-2:30 pm MST couldn’t access After Party. Said too many people were attempting to log on. Don’t know if this is a concern but you mentioned lots of bot activity yesterday.

    1. This happened to me as well.

I don’t know error codes. But the phrasing made it sound the fault was on my side:

‘Error 429 – Too many requests by user in a given time period’

    3. Thanks for this feedback Hi T, Mike S, and Christine! Just fixed a bug that was causing way too many hits to the site by each visitor. The code that solved the Singapore bot problem created a new “too busy” problem.

Fingers crossed for no more slow downs!

    The Tomb of Ligeia (1964)
    – Roger Corman directs Vincent Price in one of the many Edgar Allan Poe movies of the time. Well after a burial for his wife, Ligeia, in the cemetery ruins next to their home within an old abbey, Verden finds new love and quickly a new bride. But can their marriage or they themselves survive the memory of Ligeia or the power the abbey has over Verden?

A recommend for fans of gothic movies. Feeling like it could have come from Hammer Studios, this movie is very well filmed, in beautiful locations and on wonderfully decorated sets. The acting can reach melodramatic heights at times, which in itself is entertaining. But the acting and writing keep the mystery of what’s really happening successfully vieled, making for an enjoyable watch.

Check your bingo sheet for these words: tomb, gothic, cemetery, ruins, abbey, Corman, Price, Poe, Hammer, melodramatic, mystery, veiled.

    Lady in White (1988)
    – After opening on a writer stopping by a cemetery on a return visit to his hometown, his narration takes the viewer back to a nostalgic time of his youth in the early 60s filled with childhood innocence, his loving family, ghosts, a murder mystery, and a few of the harsh realities of the time.

    IMDB: 6.6/10
    Letterboxd: 3.2/5
    RottenTomatoes: 67%/68%
    Mike S: A: 6, B: 7.5

A swingy recommendation for a bit of a wild movie. While ostensibly a children’s tale, this movie has one foot firmly planted in the comedic film world nostalgia of A Christmas Story (1983) and the other foot on the shakier terra somewhere darker and more real than Gremlins (1984) could even imagine itself to be. But it’s this uneven tone and truly surprising choices the movie makes that help create a real sense of unease and uncertainty by the end.

If you want a Halloween nostalgia-fest to share with children, this is most likely *not* it. The MPAA had to be talked down from an R rating to make this PG-13. This is a well told, but somewhat uneasy, story told within the trappings of a children’s movie.

πŸ™ŒπŸ» A great recommendationβ€”watched Lady in White tonite. It has sorta the same eerie but nostalgic feel to me as Stephen King’s movie Stand By Me.

      1. Glad you liked it, Christine!

I was also thinking of Stand By Me for some of the darker realism and the writer/character parallel.

The nostalgia in Lady in White definitely has more of the artifice of a childlike retelling similar to A Christmas Story. Part of that is just from more time spent in the town and around other characters.

We for sure liked it and found its structure surprising.

    Waiting for A ROSE

Five days ago I played DRESS (nu) after ⬜🟩⬜🟩🟨 AROSE, which was a risky choice. But with the recent repeat FRESH in my mind, it was a risk worth taking. Well, risk not, gain not, I thought.

    1. Well done!

    2. Hi there! Avatar

      Very creative write-up!

    3. A plural pay off!

    4. Why did you consider DRESS a risky choice?

I considered it to be the optimal choice, because it rules out CRESS and TRESS.

It led directly to WREST on 10/20.

      1. Waiting for A ROSE Avatar
        Waiting for A ROSE

Today ⬜🟩⬜🟩🟨 AROSE, leads to 7 possible solutions:
CRESS, DRESS, TRESS as NUs and
CREST, FRESH, PRESS and WREST PUs

The burner words DUCTS or PACTS will give you 7 unique color combinations for these 7 words, so guaranteed solution in 3.
However DRESS will only give three combinations for these 7 words.
For example, if after DRESS: ⬜🟩🟩🟩🟩, it could be CRESS or TRESS, and possibly 4 guesses to finish. But also opportunity to solve in 2.

        1. PRESS #1188, CREST #1135 are too late to be likely candidates.

CRESS, DRESS are your only OG NU.

TRESS is an ADD with WB 48%

          FRESH is a 1YR #22.

Either CRESS, DRESS or TRESS, would give you FRESH. So, no need to guess FRESH here.

TRESS has a relatively low WB% and it’s less likely to be the answer because it’s an ADD rather than a OG NU. So, you’re not talking even odds a 33%, 33%, 33%.

OG NU words are 2X likely than an ADD word. ADD words are 2X more likely than a 1YR.

It’s more like DRESS %40, CRESS %40, TRESS %20 (if it is an _RESS word).

Even if it were even odds, you still have %33 chance at a 2. %67 chance of 3 or 2. But, realistically, it’s %80 of the 2 or 3.

If it came down to 4 choices, I would agree with you. Play the burner word. When it’s only 3, you can go for it.

If you were really worried about CREST, then CRESS is the obvious choice.

For me, a choice between CRESS and DRESS is clear. Go with the most common word which is DRESS.
