Caught myself thinking of several DR_ words, then immediately turn around and put an A in the same spot it’s not supposed to be. Oh well. It worked out in the end.
… … … …October Movie Marathon
Saturday: Double Feature …
Tipping Point of the MachinesHardware (1990)
– It’s a grimey, hazy, cyberpunk world fueled on hustle economy, voyeurism and exploitation, and run by never-present policy makers. … What? Oh yes, the Hardware synopsis. … Scraps of a killing machine that can rebuild itself are salvaged from the mysterious post-apocalyptic wastelands and brought to an artist’s city apartment. Mayhem eventually ensues.IMDB: 6/10
Letterboxd: 3.3/5
RottenTomatoes: 43%/52%
Mike S: A: 6, B: 7Recommended, with several caveats. If prone to seizures, don’t watch this movie. If you want developed characters, outside of the sleaziest one, probably don’t watch this movie. If you want any kind of thesis to the many themes brought up — surveillance, security, reproduction, religion, drug anethstetism — you may be disappointed. But, if you want a super atmospheric two-act cyberpunk mood piece, that takes big swings at creating a pallet of stunning visuals, and music from Ministry and PIL with a score to match, and has cameos by Lemmy and Iggy Pop, then this might be fun.
If Terry Gilliam on the darkest of humored days made The Terminator with the aid of a hard-core metal music video editor, it might be indistinguishable from this movie.
… … …Ex Machina (2014)
– It’s a secluded and secure world for a super elite and powerful tech mind to privately mold architecture over nature in ways that could alter the future of humanity. … What? I did this bit already? … A coder is brought to the big tech boss’s home and research lab to test an AI robot. Mayhem ensues.IMDB: 7.7/10
Letterboxd: 4/5
RottenTomatoes: 92%/86%
Mike S: A: 7.5, B: 6Pretty high recommendation. I feel like this is a movie more people, who didn’t have pre-teens at home, would have seen when it came out. That wasn’t us. Over the decade plus of not having seen it, it may have built itself up as being something different. But while I was expecting something else I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with what the movie is. Stunningly filmed and acted. Thought provoking for sure.
If you want answers to if and how AI might destroy our world, you probably won’t find them in this movie. But you may come away with the impression that AI could be very much like us, which is a scary thing indeed.

Havenβt seen Animal House since the 80sβ¦ along with Stripes, Caddyshack, Ghost Bustersβ¦ RIP Harold Remis.
The enduring memories from Animal House for me (it has been 40 years) is the Godfather spoof with the horse in the bedroom and the cafeteria food fight.
-
When touring around the University of Oregon campus neighborhood long ago, I literally did a double take, then backtracked a few steps when I realized I almost meandered past the famed Delta House.
It has since been demolished.

π« In honor of *Alaska Day 1867* (the last frontier). From the best of the best of the best, hereβs a Northern Exposure Chris Stevens-ism.
βοΈ βGoethe’s final words: “More light.”
Ever since we crawled out of that primordial slime, that’s been our unifying cry: “More light.” Sunlight. Torchlight. Candlight. Neon. Incandescent.
Lights that banish the darkness from our caves, to illuminate our roads, the insides of our refrigerators. Big floods for the night games at Soldier’s field. Little tiny flashlight for those books we read under the covers when we’re supposed to be asleep.
Light is more than watts and footcandles. Light is metaphor. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Lead Kindly Light, amid the encircling gloom Lead Thou me on!
The night is dark, and I am far from home- Lead Thou me on!
Arise, shine, for thy light has come. Light is knowledge. Light is life. Light is light.β

π©π©π©π©π© ADORNRAISE leaves 14 OG NU.

DRAWL is the best 2nd guess. It gives me a 3 in 7 out of the 14. Not awesome odds, but it works out.
DRAWL leaves only ADORN.
==============================
A mini yellow school bus parks on the grass of the school for the football game.-
π€·π»ββοΈYouβre not looking at adds and repeats anymore? Is it because weβve already had 59% of Octobers words as adds and repeats?
-
π³ will I get a citation?
-
Itβs more because Iβm trying to use only my phone. My spreadsheet isnβt coming up from DropBox correctly; so, I canβt see my list. So, I have only the OG list in my daily journal.
On days where the ADDs and 1YRs are already listed in my journal, Iβm fine.
To be honest, I usually donβt play it any differently, because Iβm still prioritizing OG NU words even if I have the others listed.
-
Aha⦠I should have caught that from previous days. I remember you mentioning your phone a few times.
I always play on an iPad w/a magic keyboardβ¦ which is one reason itβs possible to be so verbose on FF. If I was on a phone, Iβd be as pithy as a grapefruit. π
I once had a look at FF on my phone browser and saw how jumbled up posts look. I wonder if most FFers use a phone. π³

There are 15 ADDs and 12 1YRs in that pattern.
I just added them to yesterdayβs page.
Now, I have access to my spreadsheet.
