I always think of the words myself and then check them against FF, so getting four yellows is nice in that I get four letters, but it’s annoying to then have to think through all the combinations!

Looking it up, I have definitely never heard of the flower, so probably had a vague memory of the second definition from Biology class long ago: “a radiating array of microtubules associated with a centrosome in a dividing cell.”

Yes as you can see adieu has been a good starting word for me. I had to work at the 2 consonants but I finally figured the word out phew!!!!!
I believe ADIEU is the most popular start word for Wordle (last I checked), and it hasn’t been played yet.
It would be an ADD, but, like today, we’ve seen a lot more of those.

I did not see ASTER as an option on the OG or WB list so I didn’t think it could be an option. But there was nothing left to choose after a silly amount of time had passed.
Was ASTER not on the WB list until today?
I’m not sure. I haven’t refreshed in a long time. For some reason I thought it would do that on its own since it’s a live site.
I had ASTER in my personal list and I copied it from the WB list weeks ago.
I decided to combine the 2315 + Adds over 37% (WB) + <236 unrepeated REPEATs together into one large list.
Hilariously, the letter frequency chart auto-updated and the best start word went back to ROATE from AROSE or RAISE (depending on the solution set you're targeting.)
I'm still playing RAISE (obviously) until the ADD odds equal the OG odds.
Missed WB for glossary. WordleBot derived? Is there a URL? What’s the Bottle thing?

For simplicity (laziness) reasons, I decided to round down (truncate) those WB% to the whole number.
That way it’s easy to distinguish between a “pure” 58% WB word and a 57.77% word which would theoretically be 58% (when rounded up), but it shows the slight lack of confidence in the word from a NYT perspsective.
So, 57.77% becomes 57%.

Ahhh… This got me thinking again about our book vs. movie debate of long ago! 📚🎬
Just gonna say it. There is zero chance The Hobbit and LOTR were better as movies. Not that they weren’t good movies, some of them. But… I will happily defend the books all the way to Mordor and back 🌋⚔️ 🗺️🧝♂️
This isn’t going to make me any friends, but after the fellowship broke up in the book(s) I found parts of the story to be a bit of a slog.
I don’t know if reading it later in life colored my opinion. But the effect of leaving one lengthy section spent with a few characters to switch over to focusing on other characters left me feeling like I was frequently starting over. This kind of scene jumping in the movies is much more forgiving.
That said, I have to admit my opinion may have been effected by me being a slow reader, which is likely related to a long undiagnosed vision issue.
And I do still think the LotR books are really good. I have image memories inspired by reading the book that are very distinct from what was in the movies.
Okay… for argument’s sake, we’ll stick with the pre-fellowship-breakup. 😉
Hmmmm… now it makes me wonder how you can read those little subtitles. I stopped much of those once I got into my trifocal years. I was on a French & Italian films bent for a while… oh, and Denmark… Babette’s Feast.
Well… my kiddo is a Korea nut, so I’ve seen many Korean subtitled shows/movies…. Parasite is excellent.
Subtitles aren’t a problem. My vision issue is less about clarity and more about eye alignment and longterm focus. Also my new glasses help a lot.
My Korean media recommendations are The Host (Goemool – 2006), a kaiju-horror-comedy movie with a nice touch of allegory; and Study Group (Seuteodigeurup – 2025) a teen high school action-comedy TV show of 10 episodes with great characters, drama, and heart, very modern.
LotR was quality movie making. High caliber all around: acting, sets, costuming, music, sound design, practical effects, special effects. Built on that the movies translated a classic story to the screen in a way that made it possible to fall in love with almost all of the characters, not to mention New Zealand. 😊
However, I wouldn’t lump The LotR movies in with the Hobbit movies. I feel the second ‘prequel’ trilogy of The Hobbt in no way reached the high quality of LotR, neither in story nor in filmmaking.
And don’t get me started on the 48 frames per second mess. I don’t know what Peter Jackson saw when he was watching dailies. But when I watched the first Hobbit movie in 48 fps I thought it looked like bad television. … Now, Jackson’s Braindead, that I would like to see in 48 fps. 😁
This is why I’ll be in NZ in December / January.
My Wordle streak will end when I fly over the IDL. LOL!

It’s more likely a 20-sided die as that’s what comes with D&D and is common. But, actually, I do not remember the conversation details about the dice that you had and so 🤷♀️.
At any rate, I’ll prepare for a re-pete, but I’ll play my standard rule of 👍.

Because if it’s an OG NU and I play the REPEAT, I’ll be mad at myself for not sticking to my strategy.
If it’s a REPEAT, and I get a 4, I feel like I played it the right way.
I saw the Mike S “humorous” analysis on my average on REPEAT days. The 3.7 average reflects my strategy which never changes.
My average since CIGAR was played is 3.15 (nearly “Pi”). So, I don’t mind taking a few 4’s.

The danger of playing in hard mode!
I try to play in self imposed hard mode so I can break my own rules and use a filter when really needed.
Do your filters follow hard mode or is that when you decide to go to easy mode?
I’m not Meg, but I also do a self-imposed hard mode that I generally only break (to use a filter that can’t be a solution) if it looks like there’s a trap that may cause a loss.
My hard mode is also perhaps an extra hard-mode in that I only play words that are possible solutions.
Yes. I do break hard mode and go easy on myself when required.
Like Ez I play extra hard mode which I believe is called Ultra mode. Which implies not repeating a yellow in the same spot.
