YODEL was in a crossword I just did and that reminded me of it being on my Starts List. LUMEN is on the 2315, so that seemed like the best next guess. LINEN has already been ♻️ and LIKEN didn’t seem old enough. LIVEN was the most obvious ➕.

🟧🟧🟧🟧🟧STEAL, GRODY left 18 possible, but only 5 unused: BIBLE, LIVEN, LUMEN, MELEE, WELCH. I chose the second, which was a good filter, but was also correct. And an ADD.
-
Sven… I thought welch was possible, too, except it’s not in the BOT’s possible answer list of 3,209… But had to strike it when I found it not in a 🤖 analysis a few weeks ago (nor ‘twas it in today’s 🤖).

WELCH was removed when they created Wordle Bot. It has a WB% of ZERO.
Another case where they may have gone a bit far on the removals.

⬜⬜🟨⬜🟨 RAISE
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 LIVEN – 58% ADDThis is a second for me on this pattern. A DUECE on an ADD!
Last one was INTEL
RAISE ruled out all unplayed OG words.
What’s left?
HELIX #33, LEGIT – 58%, LIVEN – 58%, PETIT – 58%.
LIVEN was selected shortly after INTEL was the answer on 8/30.
Not sure why I didn’t play LEGIT, but that will be the next guess. Tracy, are you taking note of this one? Thanks in advance!

Wordle 1,907 4/6
⬜⬜🟨🟩⬜ Saner
🟩⬜⬜🟩🟩 Lumen
🟩🟩⬜🟩🟩 Liken
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 LivenNext time I see that pattern with SANER, maybe I’ll try 5 new letters instead of guessing, so I can get it in 3 tries instead of 4.
-
Why did you guess LIKEN #1782 ? Just curious.
-
I was using the Wordle solver on the Word Finder site. On that page, I always start with “Hide recent answers” set to All Time.
After LUMEN, the only remaining unused words were LEBEN and LODEN. Those words aren’t in the Weighted Bottles list, so I changed the “Hide recent answers” setting to None. That page lists LIVEN under “Other Results” with LEBEN and LODEN. That made sense to me because I’ve always heard it with the “en” prefix (“enliven”). The only remaining “Common Word” on that page was LIKEN.
I apparently mistyped LIVEN the first time I tried searching for it in the Weighted Bottles list. I couldn’t find it until after I had tried LIKEN.

⬛⬛🟨🟩⬛RULER… 1 NU OG WL; 🤖29
⬛⬛⬛🟩🟨BEZEL… 0 NU OG WL; 🤖8
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩LIVEN… ADDWell sh💩t…. The odds that a nu og wl is preferred over an add seem to be diminishing faster than a tumbleweed in a dust storm … we are living in the wordle wild west. 🤠
NU=never used
OG=original wordle list, give or take a few
WL=words left
ADD=words not on the OG
🤖=Wordle Bot analyzer-
You played it the right way IMHO.
The unplayed OG words are being played at a 50% rate and there are fewer of them (456) vs. the unplayed ADDs (598) which are being played at a 39.5% rate.
So, the odds on the unplayed OG words are still much higher as a category.
REPEATS < #237 chances are even less 10.5%
This is why I'm sticking with RAISE until the ADD odds exceed the OG odds.
-
Thanks JD … This is very helpful. I wonder, at what rate are the OG vs ADD odds closing in on each other?
It’s interesting to think about repeat rates. If the idea is to add all repeats back into the pool, will it be rather evenly or could it be exponentially faster as we run outta them OG words. Adding year 1 (mostly) back in over the past 6 months might not predict the future. If TB wants to really make it tough, she could add the rest of the repeat words back at once. Tough for we who analyze. It probably doesn’t make a wit of difference to most wordlers who “just play” 🤣.
-
Well, I’ve been monitoring (loosely). The ADD rate has been hovering anywhere from 35.9% to 41.5% since 8/17.
On 7/30 it was 26.8%. Before that it was about 6%.
So, it took a large jump, but it’s been holding steady for now.
It’s not like the rate is on a steady increase or decrease. It just jumps up suddenly and stays flat.
======================================
Repeat Rates.
—————
Nobody knows what their ideas are.Based on the evidence, it appears that they are playing words that were answers before they purchased Wordle which is game #236.
There are 4 REPEATs out of that range, but I think #236 is the logical cutoff point.
This is logical, because the vast number of people were not playing at that point (except Kim S.. LOL).
I don’t see any evidence at all that the REPEAT rate has been increasing or decreasing. If anything, it has decreased slightly. The range varies from 5.0% to 11.8%. Long range average is 10.2% (last I measured it). (I still think it will settle on 10.5% or 10.0%)
As we run out of OG and ADD words, then you might see an uptick on REPEATs. There are only 218 pre #237 of those though.
There are over 1000 unplayed OG and ADD words. That’s almost 3 years worth of Wordle play. I don’t think the REPEATs are really necessary.
TB may think that by having some REPEATs, it makes the game more challenging to the level that they want for most players. She’s into math (I’ll explain that later). So, they might want the bell curve of answers to peak at 4.
Once they are done, they may decide to start over with the entire pool of words that have been played or just put the whole bloody thing on random.

inquiring minds would like to know how you got those sweet three “…NU OG WL; 🤖” columns to line up so nicely, since monospacing is not an option. always been unpredictable and unwieldy in my experience and attempts.👍 thx in advance.
-
I think the previous letters in each row just happened to be of similar width. For me, the columns are very slightly misaligned.
-
🙋🏼♀️ yes… what Ez sed! They are a might wonky, but mostly aligned due to my sweet ellipses. Don’t tell the ampersands, but ellipses are my favorite.

Cool grid art… next time can you give me Pee Wee Herman dancing to tequila?
How did you use the FF filter without any lists to start with? I am 🌽fused.

My dad LEGIT* had a pair just like them in the 70s. I commandeered them and they legit became the stuff of halloween costumes, skits, and tequila dancing for years to come, until they finally legit fell apart.
*we should all sprinkle LEGIT in our posts to put LEGIT in TB’s 🧠 because legit she’s reading all of our posts. She will legit soon reach out and hire all of us at NYT to be on her wordle team or at least, legit beg us to be on the upcoming new wordle game show. Legit.

-
I don’t use the Five Forks Filter. I just use the list. … I stare at the puzzle, think of a word that fits, use the alphabet layout on Five Forks to check to speed scroll down to see if it’s been used, find out it’s #1000 something, then repeat. Like I imagine how Peg does it. Just stretching the mind.
— — —And now, time for Pee-wee:
-
Whoops, wrong link. 😁 …
-
I said Peg when I meant Meg. … Apologies to you, southern hemisphere friend. 🙂
-
Hi Mike S
I do try to think of words before I then check if they are on a list. I believe my brain enjoys the exercise. I use Fiveforks list or even one of the OG lists such as beebom even though I know they are against the ‘religion’ of some.
Peg and Meg are short for Margaret so all good.
-
-
That’s exactly what I used to do before the After Party, and I got the idea to make lists of verified unused words that fit the various combinations from my typical starting word. I manually create as I go based on other people’s guesses and Wordle Bot guesses.
My list is fairly short for most combos, so if nothing fits I start plugging in letters to brainstorm possibilities and then check the FF list for prior use, just like you do

Prof. Mike’s Word of the Week; EARST chosen by Richard (Maryland)Another game which required that I leave and come back later when the fog had cleared.
NEWEL is not on the Weighted Bottle List. It did help with letter placement and after the break I saw LIKEN (PU #1782) and LIVEN. Odds still favor the non-PU, so I chose LIVEN. Another contender was LINEN, which has actually been a solution twice (#51 and #1718), so it was highly unlikely to be the winner today.
Good ☀️/🌃 to all!-
It looks like EARST is a great start word for hard mode. It would seem to avoid the _A_ER type pattern right off the bat.
What are your thoughts on it since you play hard mode regularly?

For my third word, I knew I needed a word with an E but no A, O or U, and it could have an I. LIVEN popped into my head without any more thought than that. I saw that it was unused so I plugged it in. (If it had been used already, I probably would have tried something else.)-

Jeb, you should change today’s title to ‘International Literacy Day + Ampersand Day’. … Then delete this message. 😁
-
But that was the redundancy joke. I suspect you are taking it level or two higher, and I’m not seeing it. (Again.)
-
Humor is subjective, so it’s not us being on different levels.
But to jokesplain, 😁, you already use the ampersand regularly for the daily After Party titles. Not using it would be breaking form, classic subversion of expectation.
Also, using a plus sign would be another classic, slightly dishonoring the honored, like a mini roast: ‘Ladies and gentlemen, what can I share with you about Ampersand that hasn’t been written thousands of times already … on the walls of restrooms up and down the greater eastern seaboard?’ … You know, high brow stuff.
-
I felt I had to honor the ampersand tradition on ampersand day, but yeah, dishonoring it on ampersand day is next level funny.
I also liked the “& then delete this message.” That’s next-next level squared.
