I’m upset with myself for giving up and using a forked word. First I work in a construction adjacent field and am very familiar with the word joist and second my name begins with a J, so how could I overlook two excellent words starting with J?😞🤦‍♀️

Beat the bot badge started early July 2026. It is not retroactive but NYT will keep track for subscribers. I just checked-I have 25 which means I beat the bot about half the time and tie for most of the rest. Rarely lose to the bot, which is what I would guess is true for most people at five forks after party.

It’s not a super meaningful badge because of that.

I went down a long winding path to get to Gusto thinking it might be the answer, but it also ruled in/out Burst, Joist, Torus, and possible ‘21 Repeats Crust and First. Then I reworked it with Stale (sister to Slate) followed by Orcin, which left only Joist as the possible NU answer. I gave up a 10-minute solve for a 70- minute adventure, ignoring a list of dreary household tasks, so well worth it! BTW, it looks like many of us Beat the Bot’s score of 5 today.

    6. Hi there! Avatar

      Nice JD!

    7. Dad had a 1966 Ford F100 that he called Truckiepoo. Sometime in the late 70s, his best friend from high school visited us from Nebraska for the first time. Leonard was the craziest, funniest, most eccentric person I had met at my young age of about 10. He brought out a side of Dad I had never seen: his whacky yet brilliant humor. During that visit, Leonard talked Dad into permanently changing Truckiepoo by transposing and rewelding the F and D on the front grill to make it into DORF. From then on, Dad drove a DORF 100. I thought it was the coolest thing ever!

Several years later, Leonard and his brothers, were back at their parent’s farm in Alliance, Nebraska (my father’s hometown) for a family reunion. During that reunion they started building a replica of Stonehenge made entirely out of old cars. They dubbed it Carhenge. Apparently, the whole family was eccentric!

            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carhenge

Carhenge is a replica of England’s Stonehenge located near the city of Alliance, Nebraska, in the High Plains region of the United States. Instead of being built with large standing stones, as is the case with the original Stonehenge,[1] Carhenge is formed from vintage American automobiles, all covered with gray spray paint. Built by Jim Reinders, it was dedicated at the June 1987 summer solstice. In 2006, a visitor center was constructed to serve the site. Carhenge was featured in Pixar’s Cars franchise spinoff webseries Cars on the Road.

Yes, Leonard Reinders was Jim’s brother. Jim came up with the idea and they implemented it one summer at their family reunion. It’s pretty incredible. I have the original T-Shirt from when it was first opened to the public. As well as many pictures of my family at Carhenge somewhere in my numerous boxes of photos. A couple years ago I was watching Jeopardy and was blown away when an answer came up about a replica built in Nebraska out of cars based on an English landmark and the question was, “What is Carhenge?” I was so bummed Dad was no longer here to see it because he would’ve gotten the biggest kick out of it!

          1. You can sort it alphabetically or by the Weighted Bottles %.

Does that not give you want you want?

I copied into my spreadsheet and compared it to the 2315 list to figure out the ADD’s.

Because I’m lazy, I asked Gemini to come up with the Excel formulae to sort the 2 columns to line up the 2315 words vs. the Weighted Bottles list (3211 words long). It creates a column that tells me whether they’re ADD or IN BOTH. Then, I sort by that column to identify the ADD’s.

      Good observation!

    2. Yes, I think “unknown” is triggered by extra privacy features. Your state code comes from Google Analytics “real time” stats, and Duck Duck Go may block it.

Your Time Zone comes from a different lookup system and is based on I.P.

There is room for error in all of this thanks to blockers and proxies. But it is interesting to watch the party goers come and go around the globe.

      1. Jeb,
When I first noticed your list of commenter locations, I looked before I posted: no one from Connecticut. After I submitted my post, I looked again. One from Connecticut. I use a VPN with Duck Duck Go. Retailers are always wanting to ship purchases to the VPN state. I’m not sure what other privacy settings may be set up.

        1. I used Google Analytics to see about 200 people visit Five Forks Wordle each day from CT. But only about 2 visit the After Party. This is in line with the total 15,000 visitors per day and about 400 to the After Party.

So the CT you saw *may* have been someone else.

TARPS provided floating T and S which I decided to place together in STILE. They worked better at the end and the I in position 3 was most helpful. The five words left were MOIST (PU #228), WHiST, JOIST, HOiST (PU #1786), and FOIST (PU #1487). WHIST turned out to rank higher than JOIST on the Weighted Bottle List, but I didn’t think of it. I tried JOIST first with MOIST as the most likely repeat word. No repeat today.
    Good ☀️/🌃 to all!

Hi ADK – every time I see you use TARPS I’m reminded of ‘The Auckland Regional Pain Service’, which I used to liaise with for patient referrals…..
Otherwise, I can only see it a a short-form of Tarpaulins – is that what it stands for?

    ⬜⬜🟨🟩⬜arose
    🟨⬜⬜🟩⬜obese
    🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩joist

Aargh! Joist was what my gut said but would not have guaranteed a guess in 3 if wrong, which obese did. Seems like when I ignore my gut, it is right, and when I go with my gut it is wrong. So my gut is just a random element!

What words are you checking for with OBESE?

      1. After arose, there were 4 NU words: copse, joist, obese, and poesy.
If I used joist as my 2nd guess and it was wrong, then if the o was in the right place that would have left copse and poesy, which could have taken 4 guesses.
By using obese as my 2nd guess, if it was wrong, then if the e at the end was right, the answer would be copse. If there wasn’t an e at th end but there was an e in the middle, then the answer was poesy. There wasn’t an e so the answer was joist. Whatever happened with obese, I was guaranteed a 3.

          Waiting for A Rose

          Hi Judy S,
Afte AROSE there were five NU words: JOIST, MOUSY, NUTSO, OVISM and OVIST
OBESE and POESY are not solutions as the “E” is eliminated.

          1. Ah, I got luckier than I thought! It looks like I neglected to include E in the list of letters not in the word. I should have noticed that when I got the list of possibles.

However, are mousy, nutso, ovism and ovist possible Wordle answers? Not according to a few online sources I checked. It looks like ovism isn’t even a valid guess.

        2. Waiting for A Rose Avatar
          Waiting for A Rose

MOUSY and NUTSO are on the list, but OVISM and OVIST are not.

    2. If I went with my gut yesterday, I would have had a 2, but I played it safe.

Sounds like you played it the same way today.

You probably played this the right way. IMHO.

If it wasn’t JOIST, then maybe you end up with a 4 instead of a 3.

    1. wow! Impressive! I don’t remember – do you frequently start with joist or was this pure luck? I’m still waiting for arose to be the answer. Don’t know what I’ll do after that.

      1. No, I just saw a brand new mini game called “Wordle in 1” on the NY Times game app. They give you a clue where there is only one possible answer and you have to guess the word in one. When you get it a new clue pops up and so forth for six total words. Once you solve all six mini puzzles the total time is your result.
See further up for my game today (birdie)

    2. Could have done this much faster, but I didn’t realize it was a timed event until I was working on the 4th word.

My actual real guesses in 1 in the standard game were STERN and BEARD I think.

I used to rotate starting words MOIST LUCKY BEARD (3 words with no common letters), until I missed LUCKY on its rotation day, then I stuck with BEARD for the most part.

Also, didn’t discover FF nor try to look up PU words until well after MOIST was the one

      1. Same Charles. I was confused, too.

His second post is another game called “Wordle in 1” that is timed and clue based.

I thought he was declaring “Wordle in 1” but that’s the other game.

      2. And I see now he played that yesterday, so was sharing the coincidence. I don’t think playing it yesterday was necessarily a clue for today, but he would have had “joist” floating around in his recent memory bank.

        Got that right Charles?

    3. Most likely, it is more beneficial.

My mum used to do Soduku and cyptic crossword puzzles to stay sharp, but not so much any more. She’s nearly 89.

      Good for you!

      1. I like when we get into “mum” stories. Mine was doing NYTimes daily crosswords and playing every word challenge she could find until she fell, broke a hip and died a week later, she was 103. She would have loved Wordle and I doubt she would ever have consulted a list. I feel guilty doing it now. I’ll be 84 next week.

            So glad I’m here ☺️ 🤪

        2. 103 is a remarkable age to reach.

Sounds like she lived a good life.

We tried to show my mum Wordle, but she isn’t too clever with a mobile phone, and the text is just too small for her anyway.

Using a list or tool is a personal choice. There is nothing to feel guilty about here. You didn’t rob the grocery store!

If it brings you more joy to not use the list, then don’t use it.

          1. I like getting 2s, I’ll take Christine’s advice.
