Hard mode will prevent some mistakes, but beware of patterns like today.
_RA_E has a ton of posibilites.
In hard mode, you can’t play a “burner” word.
Lucky for you that you had the C in the correct position to avoid that.
So, it can be a little more challenging vs. easy mode.

NYT AVG. 3.0Not my best game by a long shot! THEME and TROVE were both reused. Then when I finally came up with the unused TRUCE, the solution turned out to be the previously used TRACE!

For example, I do it on an iphone.

On the Wordle ‘Congratulations’ screen after completing the puzzle there is a ‘Share’ button towards the bottom of the screen. Click on that then click ‘Copy to Clipboard’.
When posting here you can copy the puzzle grid from tour clipboard. Add the words you used on the right side of each line.
I’m using my phone. I assume it’s mostly the same on a computer. Press and hold to bring up clipboard on a phone; right click on a computer.

This predates Blazing Saddles. Was the ‘point a gun at your own head’ used before this short? If not did Mel Brooks have something to do with this short?…

I don’t think Mel Brooks had anything to do with this short. I did see a Reddit comment where someone remembered seeing this play as an opener for Blazing Saddles, which may have happened in the 70s, or they definitely could have been paired at a later date at a festival showing, or that person just misremembered where they saw it.
I saw the movie in my youth, but don’t remember where. Could have been at a theater. Could have been a school copy (my mother would bring home stuff like Flash Gordon serials on 16mm, with a projector!). I’ve always remembered the stop-motion pixelation style and only recently rediscovered the name of the movie.
As for the joke, yeah, Blaze Glory did it first it first out of the two. But it seems very vaudevillian, like peeking around a corner or curtain then pulling your head back with your own hand. … Guess I’ll have to listen to the Blazing Saddles blu-ray commentary.

I decided on a burner word that would play B, M, T. Either THUMB or TOMBS would work.

TOMBS would play the O in ORATE, but I didn’t want to replay the S.
Rather, I played the H and U to rule those letters out.
THUMB matched the T. So, TRACE.
I really need to start checking if the REPEATs have already been repeated.
My memory isn’t that good.

Trace & brake were so close, too, could have been either of those repeats. This 4 neutralizes one of your 2s, but you have so many it doesn’t even matter.

My monthly average ticked up from 2.90 to 2.95.
One more 4, and I’m back up to 3.00.
BTW, my lifetime average ticked down to 3.42 from 3.43 when I got the 2 at STRIP.

With TRACE (4), 3.424 went to 3.425.
That was game 1521 for me. So, it takes a lot to move that average.

I believe you’re right. Guessing TRACE or TRADE would have left the other word. So, that’s the way I would have gone.
TRADE (#870) is not a first year REPEAT anyway; so, TRACE is the preferred option.

The words that haven’t been played yet are more likely to be the answer (unless the word is not common).
If you determine there are multiple played words (words that have been the answer already), try to pick the word that has a puzzle number 364 or lower. This means it’s a first year REPEAT.
Make sure that word hasn’t been played twice already. (Something I am trying to remember to do.)

TRADE wasn’t off the table.
It was just far less likely than TRACE.
I think considering the REPEAT chances to play a REPEAT prematurely is a mistake if you haven’t ruled out the unplayed words IMHO. Especially now, the odds of an ADD are much higher than a REPEAT.
The odds on an ADD (after today) are more than 4 times that of a REPEAT.
The odds that it’s neither is still greater than 50%.
Therefore, you’ll be much happier with the results long term if you avoid playing REPEATs until there is no other good option to pl,ay.
Additionally, as proved by the back to back REPEAT, these REPEATs and ADDs don’t appear like a heartbeat. The pattern is highly irregular. There are a lot of clusters of ADDs and REPEATs and then longs gaps of neither.

TRACE is a common 1st guess at about 0.6% of all players per WB. Slightly more common than my typical starter STEAL, even.
Today it was 1.2% 1st guess, and 51.3% by turn 3.
That tells me 1. there are a number of players who collect hints prior to even their 1st guess (like, why are you even playing)? And, 2. We should see a lot of good results today (even the WB bot got it in two)-
Heck ya! It’s a good thing we aren’t using hints, word filtering tools, sophisticated spreadsheets, optimal letter placement charts, updated master lists, and a literal Nerdle pit crew for five-letter words 🏎️💨 like those “lucky” folks who got it in one today. The absolute audacity of them! 😂

Yep. If they are “peeking under the hood” then we are taking apart the entire engine.
Most of the millions of daily players out there don’t even have the original list much less the hardcore data mining tools we use here.
If they did, then ADIEU and AUDIO would not be the top starting words. It would be RAISE.

I fell into a similar pattern, but I had 3 first year REPEATs to choose from plus ORATE.
I had to play a burner word. Good thing I don’t play hard mode. (However, that would have made it a 3, because TRACE was the lowest number.)

🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 TRACEAs far as I could tell, TRADE and TRACE were the only remaining possibilities after my first word. TRACE was number 179 while TRADE was 800-something, so I went with TRACE.
(Why do I start with TEARS? Because I used to start with TEARY, but after that word got used I wanted to switch to something that hadn’t been used so that I would have a greater-than-zero chance of getting it on the first word. Maybe not much greater than zero – but if you use TEARS as a verb and not as a plural noun, it’s plausible. Now that words are being reused, TEARY could come up again, but I think it would be a while. And TEARS has been working well for me.)
