Jeb, regarding the seemingly common error with people guess SLUFF, have you considered adding a page to this site with a list of all possible answers (or at least, words the WordleBot thinks can be answers)?

I don’t know how possible it is to get that info, but it could help people avoid guessing words that are allowed guesses despite not being possible answers.

    1. SLUFF is not an error. It is a dictionary variation of slough and may very well have higher usage.

Because Wordle allowed it to be guessed, it is on the 10,000+ “allowed guesses” list. Otherwise Wordle would “shake” no.

To your question, no I intentionally have not obtained, use, or publish any information that is derived from looking under the hood at the code (a.k.a. peeking.) That is my personal preference, but I also learned early on people can be triggered by spoiler information, so I added “No spoiler” to the title of the page and get a lot of traffic for people keying variations of “past wordle answers no spoiler”.

That being said, the After Party is filled with all of this information and clearly labeled a “spoiler zone” multiple times. I’m fascinated at how people use all of this different information, and I’m fine with it being shared in the Party.

We are all in this together to beat Tracy. 😉

      1. I will now invite my colleague JD to the podium…

Would you consider adding a special (& searchable) symbol in your used words for ADD used words?

        1. That would be using “future” information and against my “No Spoiler” in the list title. Only past information is on the list. The reason is the short answer list and the long guess list come from looking under the hood at code, and that is how “ADD” is derived. (My understanding. I don’t use it.)

I’m fine with everyone sharing in the After Party because Five Forks Wordle users have the option to not visit the After Party.

No—only ADDs that are USED which are already in your used word list anyway, right? Like PSHAW & GUNKY.

          2. I think Jeb is suggesting it’s not possible to know what words are ADDs unless one already knows the list Wordle is drawing potential solutions from.

If Jeb isn’t looking at a potential solutions list he won’t know when a word is used that wasn’t on it.

And if others who don’t used such a list see ADD notations on Five Forks, it could be confusing, or misrepresent the Five Forks list creators intentions, or some third thing.

Mike & Jeb, those are nice answers to a question I didn’t ask. It’s okay, I give up. 🤡

          4. Christine, sorry for being intrusive. I thought I understood your question and Jeb’s comments. Sorry for not being helpful.

        2. This is the question I answered. I think Mike and I read it correctly. You are asking for a symbol to mark PU words that were “ADDs”. We both explain why the answer is “no” which I guess would have been a shorter answer.

“Would you consider adding a special (& searchable) symbol in your used words for ADD used words?”

          1. Although the answer was “Yes” in that I did consider it. But “No” I won’t do it because… yada yada yada.

Wordlebot said SLUSH was the only remaining possibility, but SLUFF would also have worked.

    1. I had a similar thought about SLUFF, but realized I was thinking of the word slough. It seems that sluff is considered a less common variant, but it’s not a possible answer

    🟩🟩⬜⬜⬜ SLIMY 6
    🟩🟩🟩⬜⬜ SLURP 3
    🟩🟩🟩⬜⬜ SLUNG 1
    🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 SLUSH

This was the worst I have done from such a strong starting position. I was confident about turn 3, then when it didn’t hit I thought “wow! Maybe Glenda’s surprising us with close pu words!” So I guessed SLUNG. Revamped my thinking and came up with the only possible answer after that

That’s because the word pronounced “SLUFF” is really spelled slough

      1. I see.
I will continue to spell it correctly until the pronunciation is changed

    2. However, SLUFF *is* a word in the sense that Wordle allows it to be guessed. Didn’t get the “shakes” when I tried.

Cleat, Rosin, both not on the PUL, led to Flush, Plush, Slush, Slyly, and possibly Blush as a Repeat from ‘21; happy to find Softy as a burner. I reworked it using my first inclination which was Clone, Stair, for the first 2 guesses – both on the PLU – which would have led to Slush or Slyly. I However, I would have been SLYLY deceived by the double L and double Y in Slyly for my 3rd guess, leading to Slush for the same score of 4. 🙂

RAISE narrows it down to 5 words. FLUSH, FUSSY, HUSSY, PLUSH, and SLUSH

Any one of them except HUSSY is a good guess narrowing it down to one or two words.

I went with PLUSH, because I there would be a run on P words. I forgot that 2 days ago was FLUME not PLUME. LOL.

So, I was left with FLUSH and SLUSH.

I went for the double letter. Correct!
