🟧🟧🟧🟧🟧STEAL, YONIC left 13 options, 9 were used. Among GODLY, GOLLY, LORRY, WOOLY, I went with GOLLY. It left 3. LOBBY, LOOPY were already used, and I should’ve tried LORRY. But I’m not feeling well, and apparently a bit LOOPY, because I tried that for some reason, immediately realizing I’d screwed up. Should’ve had that in 4.

Great luck with my trusty COBRA. GOURD was the only other words on my starts list with the O R pattern, so gave it a shot. Then went to my 2315 Unused List and LORRY was the only fit.

CRONY is still the best filter since 7/19
when the answer was CHURN.As the 3’s come out, it’s chances decline which will make 4’s more common in the future. I may have to find a better filter word.
Anyway, CRONY did lead to LORRY.
I did hesitate a bit, because I wasn’t sure if they would go with the British English word for TRUCK(1637)

🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 LorryCrate, Loins, led to Lorry as the only possible answer. I’m still usually focused on the most common 10 letters found in the words on the original NYT list for first 2 guesses, which worked today. With Repeats and Adds, I’m thinking about if or how I should revise it.

L (136), O (133), T (129), Y (128), N (118)
for unplayed 2315 words only.

However, with the discovery of this Weighted Bottles list, I am reevaluating this.In theory, 199 additional words word removed from the 2315 list when NYT bought Wordle.
Once I figure out which words those are (if I can), I will readjust this (and perhaps my strategy)
I had been speculating that many of these words may not get played and my suspicions are being confirmed.

🎖️ IN SEARCH OF BADGE IDEAS: Prior to wordle badges, I used to make my own achievements/badges… “More 3s than 4s,” “more 1s/2s/3s than 4s/5s/6s,” etc.
I am in search of new achievements and am wondering if any of you have and will share your own personal badges/achievements ideas, please? I am guessing other wordle nerds 🥸 do this.
Perhaps this has been a topic in other after parties🥳🎉
Perhaps we can suggest some to NYT that are actual achievements unlike “sea of greens” 🤪

How about a monthly average less than 3.5 guesses?
I look at more 3’s than 4’s, but also more 2’s than 5’s and more 1’s than 6’s (although, I’m unlikely to get that one myself based on the words I start with).
I look at 3.5 as center of the bell curve that we should all be trying to achieve.

The only one of those I don’t have & will never have is 1s vs 6s unless I decide to change my starting words regularly.
I like the monthly average idea—but… I’ll have to do maths. 🧮 Unless you know of someone who has created a monthly average tool somewhere?

LORRY seems a perfectly fine word in a puzzle game that includes solutions such as RUPEE, FJORD, PARER, and PSHAW. It’s commonly known by enough people even in areas where it isn’t used on a daily basis.
While I have trepidation about -ED past tense words and -S plurals being added to the pool of possible answers, that concern is about how difficult the puzzle solving could become with too many additions that have very similar spellings.
In general I’m very in favor of a Wordle word pool that can cross borders as much as an English language based puzzle can.

The first day I drove in Australia (Queensland), I was almost run off the road by a ute because I hadn’t fully understood how a Give Way sign was used. I assumed the bridge I was crossing had a Give Way sign on each side.
I learned quick that day. And now whenever I see a similar vehicle in the US I say, ‘Ute!’ … Sadly, not five letters.
Any five letter word you could recommend?

I agree Mike , and almost responded in this vein to Christine yesterday – but I sounded a bit peeved & struggled to reword it so deleted….. You have put it succinctly 👍
The game is played worldwide, tho many haven’t found their way to FF (I’ve seen Ireland, Philippines ….. )
many words from foreign languages have found their way into common-use
its a great way to learn new words-
I’m trying to see what comments Christine made yesterday that peeved you. I don’t see anything peevish from yesterday. 🤷♀️

My apologies Christine – I have looked back so I can respond properly – but cant find…. it was feedback on JD’s (popularity-rated) ADD words, where you felt USA words were preferable (or similar comment)

My analysis currently says that 0.4% players chose LORRY on guess #1. It ranked #39 in first guesses. Seems weird that anyone would use LORRY as a starting word.

This is weird indeed, even for people who live in the UK.
As much as I’ve been seeing double letter patterns in the answers, I still think it’s poor strategy to guess a double letter out of the gate.
If that letter isn’t in the puzzle at all, you’ve wasted one letter guess out of 5.

Sure, it’s a contrarian strategy.
If the double letter shows up in the puzzle, you’ll probably get it in 2 or 3 guesses.
If it doesn’t, your odds on 4 or 5 just increased.

Because of the most common letters placements in wordle, COloR hits 3 of them and lorrY only hits one. When people say there’s a fifty fifty chance between 2 words, that’s not quite true. I use this analysis to make a decision, but of course it’s only based on probabilities not certainties, which is why LORRY won out in this case. And, my most common letters chart is out-dated because it includes the entire original wordle list and as words are played, these probabilities would change each day. But, I’m not going to go that granular. I’m already too grainy. 🤓

Hey JD – yes, more interesting for me since I began my recent theme of single vowel words – I’m focused on that rather than not getting a good solve %
It is still important to me and I do keep tracking it as I want to do well, but not so fixated (& therefore not so frustrated)
and
I would have given up long ago if it wasn’t for the sharing of our FF family with their wit, wealth of information n banter
