🟧🟧🟧🟧🟧STEAL left 22 possible, but 17 were used. From AXIAL, CABAL, CANAL, PUPAL, ZONAL, the third was a perfect filter — and was the answer! I now have 121 solved in 2, and 77 sea of (orange).

Letter Frequency on unplayed words

I found a fundamental flaw in my calculations for the number of letters left. The flaw is that I was counting the number of letters in each position. Those calculations were correct, but then I summed them together to get the total number of letters. That was also correct, but that’s not what I really wanted.What I want is the number of words containing a letter like “E”. So, the word “EERIE” contains 3 E’s. So, it was counted 3 times. I only want to count “EERIE” one time.
Start words like ROATE are being based on the number of letters found in all 2315 words rather than the number of words containing “R, O, A, T, E”

I found that sites like Real Statistics use the same way of counting.So with number of letters, these are the totals.
E (1233), A (979), R (899), O (754), T (729)…

Counting words containing these letters (not counting double letter words twice and triple letter words three times)
E (1056), A (909), R (837), O (673), T (668)…
Yeah, but JD, the order of the first 5 didn’t change. So, ROATE / ORATE were still the best guesses, right?
Not so fast! That is based on the answer list that existed on day 1.
We all know on Five Forks, that they didn’t REPEAT until 2/2/26.
So, the calculations should be done on the words that remain.

But first lets compare the lists of the original list.
Number of letters in all the words gives us the list a lot of us know.

Not sure what that error message means. If you see it again, can you copy the full URL as well as any other text on the screen? Might help me to narrow it down between WordPress, a plugin, Cloudflare, or even the host server, HostGator.

🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 CanalI got it down to Cabal or Canal. N is more common than B in the 3rd position based on the original NYT list and canal is a much more common word than cabal. Happy to get it in 3.

🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 CANALRAISE leaves 20 words.
Last time this pattern appeared, it was a REPEAT (BATON).
This isn’t a good pattern for RAISE and perhaps worse for ROATE.
MANGY was the same filter I used last time. It would give me MAMMA, MAMMY, MANGY. and 5 other words for a 3 (or 2).
That’s less than a %50 chance.
Fortunately, I landed the N in the right position. The Y also ruled out FANNY.
Y is present in exactly half of the answers (10). N is in 7.
I am still reviewing better 2nd guesses for this pattern.
