I always forget CAROM and TAROT (which havenβt been used!) in these situations, and Wordlebot always reminds me that TAROT has A and O, which would eliminate more words. I actually sort of prefer CAROM, since it doesnβt repeat the T.

MANGY is a perfect filter though.
BATON (183) is an early REPEAT and somewhat 4th of July parade related.
I thought she wasnβt going to do this theme word stuff, but she is.
Back to back, ADD followed by a REPEAT.
She has done back to back ADDs 3 times.
=============================
Ideal spot on the 4th of July parade route on the corner of 2 streets.
What is a back to back ADD?
There was an original answer list baked into the Java code of Wordle.
Wordle’s answers largely come from this list.
Occasionally, words get added to this list.
There were days were these “ADDs” happened on consecutive days.
Thanks!!

Jeb, thanks for the note about International Plastic Bag Free Day. I keep several reusable tote bags in my car for grocery shopping. I also have rolls of compostable bags to collect kitchen scraps. I wish I could say that reusing the O in position 2 was a strategic move, but it really was a careless one. I gave myself a red square accordingly. It’s a bit early for a repeat word, but BATON was the only possibility. Glad to solve in four!
Grease fire started by overheated pan.
Good βοΈ/π to all!
Or a ride-on lawn mower mowing!
Love the red square added!
She has done back to back ADDs 3 times.
Today was a REPEAT immediately after an ADD.
The day of back to back REPEATs is coming.
She is definitely going mix up the timing on REPEATS and ADDs to throw us off.
Youβve really been on this back-to-back repeats conspiracy theory for a while. Until it happens at least once Iβm not going to waste my time considering it – and when it does Iβll have a good chuckle when you claim βI told you so!β
I donβt think you should anticipate a REPEAT anyway. Thatβs actually my point.
Just because a REPEAT just happened doesnβt mean that it wont happen again tomorrow.
Similarly, just because 10 days have passed since a REPEAT doesnβt mean one will happen on the 11th day.
She is trying not to be so predictable.
Maybe she is one of us.
π
I have accidentally started a fire from grease in a pan twice:
* Once as a 20+ young adult.
* Once as an overly distracted 40+.
Severely embarrassed about the second one. π₯΄
Ruth,
It’s happened to me, too. I keep a fire retardant blanket close at hand!

3 perfectly good unused words right there. Better do a repeat. Better start doing repeats. Better not exhaust the 5 letter word list and switch to 6 letters after 6 years and start doing repeats. That is the only option.
I think the most effective protest would be if we could all organize and intentionally fail to solve repeat words. sick of it
IKR? Instead of boring lazy repeats, they could have just expanded the original wordle dictionary to include ALL legitimate 5 letter words. Does anybody know why not? I agree, they also could have changed to 6 letter answers.
Christine,
I’ve wondered about 6 letters, too. Do you know of any Wordle-like sites where you could try that?
Iβve seen them out there. One I know of, but donβt play where you can pick the length. https://games.wordunscrambler.net/wordle-unlimited/
thereβre a bunch. Thewordfinder/lingle has daily and custom wordles 3-10 letters.
Thereβs kellydornhaus with a bunch of unique variants. I really like xordle (select hard mode and play a different day for a surprise) and warmle.
Weaver is really fun when you try to go for optimal.
Donβt Wordle is REALLY hard.
Word500 is basically mastermind word edition.
Symble is like⦠word500 but 5x harder.
And how can you leave out Horsle and Jeffgoldblumβ¦le.
Then ofc the sprawling wordle-likes that have nothing to do with words as the key gameplay.
Wordle wasnβt unique, but its popularity opened the puzzle game floodgates
Thanksβgonna look these all up! π I used to play a really fun one with 16 wordle boards and 21 tries to solve them all. sedecordlegame Itβs addicting.
Big Al and Christine, thanks for all these suggestions. I’ll check them out – do some or any of them include comments a la After Party? Wordle comments has become so popular that it’s a bit of a chore to follow them. I think some of the Wordle issues like repeats, etc. came about because NYT did not know how big it would become!
re: ” bit of a chore”
I knew the After Party could not scale as is. One thing that helps are the yellow “new” highlights if you come back later.
Thinking about how a party works with little sub gatherings and people sometimes moving around them or sticking to them, I’ve thought of creating party “rooms” somehow.
Mulling.
I like the yellow, too. If I see that a lot of comments were added after I last checked, I can look again. I also appreciate the emails : NYT does this if you get a response from a journalist (highly unlikely), but with comments numbering 1,000+ it’s not practical.
The party room sounds interesting. When I asked Christine about other Wordle-type games, I also got a response from Big Al naming and and describing many. Doing a search online would be exhausting and would get trackers galore. This might be a room that others would find interesting. On my own I found Bardle which might mainly attract us English majors π
I hear you.
I am busily preparing a list of ADDs to the 2315 list to encourage her to add unplayed words rather than do a REPEAT.
The problem is that Iβm going through a list 10657 words and itβs taking a while on my lunch breaks at work. Iβm pretty close to done now.
I will post the words on this site and try to see if there is a way we can all vote on them.
Thereβs about 530 words left in the original answer list. So, sheβll need at least 53 good words if she uses them once every 10 days.
We can narrow them down to about 100
There are plenty.
Definitely worth a tryβIβll sign your petition. I canβt help but wonder why they didnβt figure this out immediately when they bought wordle instead of scrambling to bandaid it now when theyβre running out of words.

I should NOT have stated that July might become my highest monthly average – however, seeing the way I’m trending so far – I may aim for exactly that !!

July is a long month.
You have lots of time to counter that trend and reduce your average number of guesses.
Thanks for the encouragement JD π
However, if I go random without all the brainstorming, expectation & frustration… I may just enjoy wordling more……

Wordle 1,840 4/6
β¬π¨β¬π¨β¬ STEAL 98
π¨π©β¬π¨β¬ TAINT 2
β¬π©π¨π¨π¨ CANTO 1
π©π©π©π©π©
This is a frustration I have with the game.
Boy says 2 playable words left: BATON and PANTY. It allows me to play CANTO anyway.
My only solace is that had I thought of PANTY instead I would likely played it and still finish in 4, because it was unplayed as compared to the repeat.
Feedback request – is TAINT or PANTY considered one of those silly so-called risquΓ© words that are unlikely answers?
appears that taint is in the nyt original 2,315 word list, panty is not…goes from pansy right to papal. π€·ββοΈ
though still unused, it does appear that randy made the list…must be a left side of the pond thing. π€
I read someoneβs post here that there are 6 words NYTimes said they wouldnβt use. So in the GitHub 2315 list of available words these 6 are on the list but excluded:
Fetus, fibre, lynch, pupal, slave, wench.
Thatβs correct.
FETUS was a weird one because some people actually got that puzzle.
It was one of those days there were 2 answers. Itβs like they realized they made a mistake and pulled the word last minute.
TAINT is on the 2315 list
PANTY is not.
I donβt see any reason why PANTY canβt be an ADD.
I donβt see it as offensive. Itβs either a piece of clothing or an adjective to describe someone who looks like theyβre panting.
I get it, but I donβt see how 3 out of the 6 verboten words could be offensive: FETUS and PUPAL (both just stages of development), and FIBRE (maybe itβs the weird spelling?)
FIBRE is the English English version of FIBER. Thatβs why it was removed. Maybe, too similar to FIBER in game play which makes it harder to solve
In regard to words like FETUS, I believe NYT thought it was controversial bringing up unnecessary blowback from its readers.
Personally, I think people are just a little too sensitive about some of these words.
BTW, LORRY (the english word for TRUCK) is still on the 2315 list.
If they wanted to keep it American English, they should have removed that one too.
I am beginning to wonder if all the words on that list will be played before they inevitably reset the whole list at some point.
Good morning, fellow CANTO guesser!
Good morning, Mike S!
I donβt think Iβll be trying CANTO again, since the works bot revealed that it wasnβt one of the possible solutions
Took a chance that it might be a repeat, and it was! Also, Sea of Greens.
