ADD Update
==========================
Today was the 42nd ADD
According to Wordle Tools, there are 2 more ADD’s coming from now till 7/23. They say 3, but I am assuming that “MAVEN” is one of them. I’ll check back Monday to confirm.
So, 2 in the next 21 days.
That’s one every 10 days (for now).
How do they know?
Good question.
They do something that none of us should do.
They look inside the Wordle code.
The answers for the next 30 days are there.
I am new to the After Party, but not new to Wordle.
Please explain βADDβ
Thank you!
NYT is adding new words to the list. These are words that can be guessed as answers and *may* also be answers. Roughly 12,000 words can be guessed in Wordle. But under 3,000 of them are on the “answers” list. There is an F.A.Q. under Support where you can get more info.
Welcome to the After Party, EATS!
with the e locked in to the fourth spot i had an inkling that an n was in the fifth.
…and since we were just ridin’ the u train i gave lumen a go, with maven waiting in the wings. π―

I was feeling a K today. Either I misinterpreted a lazy V stuck to a wall as a K, or I was just wrong. I prefer to assume the former.
RAVEN was chosen because I love Corvids. We donβt have any RAVENs here, but I do have a murder of CROWS that visit me every morning for a breakfast of our chopped up leftovers. I call them Myrtle. All of them. I canβt tell them apart. π€·π»ββοΈ

RAISE leaves only 2 words (I thought).
CAGEY and OAKEN.
At this point, I said Uh Oh! I think a REPEAT or an ADD is coming.
I looked for possible repeats. They areβ¦
PANEL, LAPEL, LABEL, VALET, MATEY, BAGEL, TAKEN, FACET, CAMEO, CADET, CAMEL, NAVEL, HAZEL, HAVEN, WAXEN, GAVEL, EATEN, LADEN.
Thatβs 18 words with that pattern.
Then, I had to decide between the 2.
I figured there were a lot of Cβs recently, so, went for CAGEY first.
===========================β’
Playing the 2 unused 2315 words, narrowed it down to 4 REPEAT words.
HAVEN (1582)
WAXEN (1675)
EATEN (1728)
LADEN (1755)
None of these are recent!!
=====================
Potential ADDs
ββββββββ-
DAVEN, DAWEN, LATEN, MAVEN, PATEN
MAVEN is the only common word in that group.
I think we had discussions about LATEN last time this happened but its COCA score is literally β2β.
So, MAVEN had to be it and it was.

Slate and Irony led to Apnea, Began, and Maven (words not on the PUL). Each of those could rule in/out the other 2. I thought that after the vocabulary challenge yesterday, Ms. Bennett might throw us a bone by using Began, the most common word of the 3. Now I think sheβs working on expanding my vocabulary! π

β¬π©β¬π©π© Oaken
π¨π¨β¬β¬β¬ Veldt

Saner reduced the number of unused common words to 3 possibilities so I picked one.
Oaken eliminated the other 2 unused common words, so I started looking for a word with the next most likely letters in the remaining uncommon words, VDT.
Veldt narrowed the possibilities to uncommon Maven or previously used Haven.
I looked up veldt just now. The Veldt was an interesting 1950 science fiction short story by Ray Bradbury, in which a smart home takes over parental duties.
My brother Eric just reminded me that Veldt was the name of our cousin Joeβs ska band.
I can see the Rudies skanking now!

I realized that the -EN ending was a trap, but I have no interest in maintaining a streak so I decided to go for it. I made a list of 17 words: 6 were not previous solutions. The two that seemed most likely were WAKEN and MAVEN. The two left after WAKEN according to WordleBot were MAVEN and LADEN (PU #1755). Satisfying solve in 4.

I keep my monthly averages in a spreadsheet.
