ROATE leaves 33 possible solutions.
Then I have a choice between CRIED and PRIED. I went back to CRIED as it’s earlier.
6 occurrences of both C and P.
12 of I, 10 of D.CRIED left still 10! Yuck. %10 chance of a 3 now.
Since 6 of EE, 5 of S, 4 of W still left, I went with SEWER.
That only left QUEER.
Is it still Pride month?

🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 QueerSlane led to 5 words: Demur, Femur, Freed, Freer, Queer. Freer had the highest letter by position score, but it’s moderately rare. Next was Freed which is relatively uncommon, which I led to Queer. Then I re-figured it on paper starting with the word RAISE as recommended by JD yesterday, 6/23/26, for the first guess. I used CLOUT for the second guess, substituting U for I in my Treasure Chest of the top 10 letters in Wordle answers based on the original NYT List. This led to only 2 words not on the PUL: Purer and Queer, so possibly I could have solved it in 3 instead of 4! I will be revisiting his analysis of the letter frequency of the words on the NYT’s original Wordle Answer List that have not yet been used. Thanks JD! 🙂

I’ve never seen the EMEER spelling in a crossword puzzle.
That said, I’ve never seen ROATE in a crossword puzzle either.
*That* said, I’m not always able to complete crosswords. But usually that’s due to geography and celebrities who were born after Jack Elam retired.

You were wondering why Wordle Bot didn’t know about EMEER, and I was giving you a possible explanation why.

@Mike. Whether the word is used in a crossword puzzle or not has no bearing on whether the programmer decides to put a particular word in a word list for either Wordle Bot or Wordle itself.
Wordle is written in Javascript.
I don’t know what they wrote Wordle Bot in.
In regards to ROATE, it, itself is a variant of ROTE. You wont even find it in MW. It is in OED. Most importantly, it’s on the playable words list in Wordle.
In regards to Wordle Bot, I couldn’t tell you if it recognizes ROATE at all.
BTW, in other versions of Wordle, you can’t even play ROATE. I haven’t tried EMEER. The fact that it contains 3 E’s would make it rare to play.
Scrabble / Words With Friends has a word list where they accept “ZA” as an answer. I don’t believe that’s a word, because it’s slang for PIZZA. The fact that it’s in word list makes it a playable word in that game.

That all looks factually correct, JD. I have no disagreement with you.
However some players, like me, play Wordle based almost exclusively on word knowledge (limited as mine may be). Neither is right or wrong, just different approaches.
For my play, word usage in crossword puzzles has a significant bearing on the game, as the puzzles have contributed to and reinforced my word knowledge.
So I would be unlikely to use either word in Wordle since I’m unfamiliar with the 5-letter spellings.
Jack Elam, on the other hand, I am familiar with. I once was stopped in my tracks agape when I saw him coming out of a 7-11 in Ashland, Oregon. Oh, and his last name used to make regular appearances in crossword puzzles.

Eric’s original query was to why EMEER is not known to the Wordle Bot.
I was just trying to come up with a possible reason the Bot doesn’t “know” about this word.
I don’t have a problem with how people are playing the game. I hope they don’t take issue with the way I play.
I am often impressed by some of the play I have seen on this site and I am learning a lot.
In regards to crossword puzzles, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of those words show up as ADDs, because Tracy Bennett designs crossword puzzles.
However, she did say that she didn’t want the words to be too obscure.
Probably, a the vast number of Wordlers are not playing crossword puzzles. So, I think that would be a niche subset. (Ooh, niche is a good Wordle word! LOL.)

Side note on Scrabble:
I would get torn apart in competition level Scrabble.
But for those interested in a different Scrabble experience I recommend co-op play, where you just add all the scores together. This can make for a much more pleasant game between players of uneven Scrabble skill.
Also playing solo can be an interesting challenge. Early in the pandemic I played my best solo game, scoring the Z 10 times and the Q 7 times.

It’s about time, right? The list of possibly “uncomfortable” words is ridiculously silly, if you ask me. While I join in the credence that these words may be offensive when directed at someone or used disparagingly, in a stand-alone manner where their definition is irrelevant, they are simply valid answers. Banning words is just wrong.
