(1) ROATE
(2) DOWNY
I’m going to have to change this word probably, because it was too good.
(3) DOWDY
Re: Kim. I tried to figure out the color chart thing, but wasn’t able to. Sorry about that.
-
Getting the D on my first guess was lucky. DOWDY is a favorite of mine.

β¬β¬β¬π©β¬ BUNDT 97 61 (4 wl: DOWDY, HOWDY. KIDDO, MOLDY)
π©π©π©π©π© DOWDY 99 87I always start with AROSE, hoping one day I have a hit on the first guess.
I was close when ARISE rose to the top. Over the last 14 months, I determined the most efficient second guess based on the 77 colour combinations on AROSE.Today was BUNDT’s turn, reminding me of my mother’s cakes.
Since yesterday had a repeat word, I eliminated without scruples the pu’s HOWDY and MOLDY. But I did not think of KIDDO until the Bot mentioned it and added it to my list of options.Needing five guesses yesterday, my 14-day average has droppped to 3.43, though my 365-day average is 3.27
Waiting for AROSE

Luck 25/99
Many people had a hand in todayβs AARGH Day (AKA HOWLS in the Wind), from Deb Amlen, through Dez, to Prof. Mike. I chose SNARL from the latterβs vetted list because it included only EAROT LISNC letters. Perfect illustration of βwhat looks good to βya may not be good for βyaβAfter SNARL grayed out, I hunted consonants and vowels with OPTIC which yielded only a floating O in position 1. HOKEY placed the O and put Y in position 5. I was looking at WOOZY, WOODY, and MOODY – all in vain. It had to be DOWDY.
Good βοΈ/π to all!-
Another interesting starting pair that I need to analyze.
-
The E, #1 letter is glaringly absent, replaced by the P, #14…
-
Not that it made any difference, today…
-
Good point to consider.
-
SNARL (514) – 1068 green score
OPTIC (unplayed) – 402 green score
===============
Total = 1470Anagramming OPTIC
================
PICOT (Playable) – 785 green score
TOPIC (909) – 675 green score.If you’re going for ONE.
—————————
OPTIC / SNARL (in the reverse order)For the Greens
———————
SNARL / PICOT – 1853 green score.==================================
Adding in “R” instead of “P”.Initially, I came up with
SARIN (Playable) / TELCO (Playable) – 1834 green score
=====================================Then, I came up with
CLONE (992) / SITAR (1659) – 2303 green score.
==================================
Anagramming SITARAIRTS (Playable) – 681 greens
ASTIR (Playable) – 638 greens
SITAR (1659) – 1054 greens
STAIR (294) – 1120 greens
STRIA (Playable) – 828 greens
TARSI (Playable) – 798 greens==================================
That means the best green score is (so far).CLONE (992) / STAIR (294) – 2369 greens.
That beats out
SAINT (460) / CEORL – 2363 greens

β¬β¬β¬β¬β¬ LATER
β¬β¬β¬π¨β¬ SCION
β¬π©β¬π©π© MOODY
π©π©π©π©π© DOWDYOne letter out of the top ten! That’s when I wait for coffee to kick in. Some good it did. Was tough finding a third guess with two vowels that hadn’t been used. Had to go with double o’s, which I hate double anything. Almost tried hoody but even autocorrect changes to moody. Howdy was burned and couldn’t come up with dowdy until guess four. Oh well, more coffee!

π©π¨β¬β¬β¬ Dwaum
π©π©π©π©π© Dowdy
I had to search for quite a while
to find Dwaum as a burner word for: Bobby, Dowdy, Moody, Woody, Woozy: all not previously used before today. According to WordleBot, the average score so far today is 4.9.-
DWAUM is a new word for me.
It doesn’t appear in the Merriam-Webster dictionary, but it does in the OED (Oxford English Dictionary). It means “a swoon, a fainting fit”.
In MW, it shows up as DWALM meaning “a fainting spell or sudden attack of illness”

Charles,
Here it is from the Weighted Bottles list in WordleTools:DOGGY 57.711% (out of highest weight 58%)
I have to agree that it is more common than DOWDY!
-
DOGGY is not on the 2315 list, but is playable (on the 10657 list).
This could be an ADD some day.
It is more common than most of the words that have already been added.

β¬π©β¬β¬π© COCKY nu also rash
π©π©π©π©π© Phew!-
I believe COCKY is not on NYT list. Am I right? Perhaps not a word used in the US?
-
Funny, yeah COCKY is not on the list but definitely used in the US!
-
I imagine the omission is just another example of how broad-audience media purveyors are wary of the puritanical streak that still runs through the US.
Rachel and Ross and the gang would have blushed at Mrs. Slocombe.
-
-
You are correct.
COCKY is not on the 2315 list.
It is playable (and on the 10657 list).
Another likely ADD some day. (and it will be hard to solve like DOGGY).
-
-
Sean what does βrashβ refer to? Congrats on keeping your streak.
-
I assume ‘rash decision’ is the meaning.
-
After you AROSE and MOUNT the POLIO virus, it leaves a rash? LOL.
