I thought you guys might be interested in this.

Interesting! Thanks for the info. I hope itβs better than Trivial Pursuit. That was a big disappointment.
-
I don’t even remember that they tried to make a game show out of that game!
That must have been poor execution.
Jeopardy worked out great. Seems pretty similar.
-
It premiered at the beginning of the current TV season, fall of 2025. I had high hopes as it is my favorite board game and with LeVar Burton as host, it seemed like a slam dunk. Not so much. But, it is still on so I guess some people like it. π€·π»ββοΈ
-
Interesting. Disappointing, indeed.
I’ll have to see if I can find it and check it out.
I remember playing that game in the 80’s or 90’s when it came out.
-
Same! We got it as a family gift in 1982 and it quickly became my favorite because, even as a new teen, I was full of random knowledge and it was the only game at which I consistently beat my older sister. I still have that original game too.
-
Make that 1983.

Well, it has been 10 days since the last REPEAT; so, of course, it had to happen.
The day after I advised people don’t play for the REPEAT. I still stand by that strategy.
(1) ROATE
(2) SCOOP
This ruled out ALL remaining 2315 words. Half of them begin with the letter “S”. Many of them have two “O”s.
So, it had to be an add or a repeat.
(3) CLOCK (160)
I decided to go with this because it was an early REPEAT and it put the C in 2 different positions. I also wanted to rule out the K which is good friends with “C”.
-
Hi JD. Is there any particular reason you donβt use the Share button when posting your results here? Iβm burdened with being a visual processor so if I canβt see the cute little colored squares I struggle to understand the solve process.
Also, in older posts you talked about having a spreadsheet (I think) that calculates your solve average. Besides being a visual processor, I also suck at math, so I was hoping you could explain the layout of your spreadsheet and the formulas you use to calculate these statistics. TIA.
-
The short answer is that I’m lazy. Not sure I know how to do it either… Does it require a paid Wordle account? I’ve been avoiding that.
The other reason is that I am more comfortable typing on my computer than my phone. I know how to touch type, but I’m a horrible texter.
I do the puzzle on my phone, but participate in this blog on my computer.
============
The Wordle spreadsheet (in Excel) has a Sheet called. “Wordle Avg.” which is probably 1 of 20 different Sheets on this spreadsheet.
This sheet has 18 columns.
===================
Puzzle #, Date, Guesses, Answer, Days Played, Win%, Current Streak, Max Streak, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ,6, Total Guesses, Avg Guesses, Avg Guesses (Monthly Moving Average), Starting Word.1, 2 , 3, 4, 5 ,6 simply track how many times I got the puzzle correct in that many guesses. If I get it in “4”, then the “4” total increments by 1. I have a formula that automatically enters that number, based on what I enter in the “Guesses” column, but it could easily be done manually. (Remember, I’m lazy; so, I prefer the computer do the work. LOL)
Winning Percentage is easy. It’s just the number of wins divided by the number of games you played.
Average Guesses is the Total Guesses divided by the number of games played.
Total Guesses is a sum of all your 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 guess totals times the number itself. So, if you got in 4, 100 times, that subtotal is 400. If you got it in 3, 30 times, that total is 90. Add all those together and you have your Total Guesses.
The 30 day moving average (now at 3.17 BTW) uses the “AVERAGE” function over the last 30 guess cells.
In case you are wondering, I have records of every game since I started.
I’ve learned to make a fun game into work. LOL!
Don’t do what I do!
-
I’m impressed!
I’ve been thinking about creating a Wordle spreadsheet for myself. Maybe someday.
-
If you do, you cross into the obsessed territory.
You should see what I created for fantasy football and Words With Friends.

π¨β¬β¬β¬β¬ LATER
β¬π¨β¬π¨β¬ SCION
π©π©π©π©π© CLOCKI’ll gladly take a three with a repeat! However, the amount of stress over hunting for an unused word then trying to calculate which was the lesser of several evils was, well, stressful! My choice was based on which of the options was the oldest played. Not to mention the stress the unused U created, making me second guess myself, wondering what was I missing! Lucky that I couldn’t think of anything or I’d have tried it! Two C’s and a K on a repeat? Really? Give us a break!
-
Don’t stress out over this! It’s just a game.
Your process is correct to fade the U. I see it as a tier 5 letter.
You’re just as likely to see “OO” as you are “OU”.
-
I really don’t stress as much as I sound. I think I like to start my day with a complaint, legitimate or not! That way I get it out of my way and avoid complaining for the remainder of the day. It works, some days…ha!
-
Awesome. I’m a little cranky when I get up in the morning sometimes.
It’s an old man’s right to complain.

We are of similar minds when it comes to solving Wordle. And apparently complaining as well. π

π§π§π§π§π§STEAL and YONIC left 4 options, all used. CLOUD 1199, BLOCK 950, FLOCK 394, CLOCK 160.
-
Ahem. Yonic? Interesting filter choice. Had to look it up. Made me giggle like a 5th grader, ha!
-
I always start with STEAL, and then use https://www.thewordfinder.com/wordle-solver/ and https://word.tips/wordle/ to select my next word. In a case like this with a lot of options remaining, I use the percentages on the first site to find a word that uses the highest numbers I can. I usually try to only use 2 vowels at a time, but YONIC was much better than other options.
While I’d used it before, I’d never actually looked at the definition until now. And I was giggling, too! I knew the counterpart word, so we’re expanding our vocabulary!

-
Interesting start pair. I’ll have to investigate.
-
See my explanation in my comment to Jack klotz, above.
-
Fascinating, I’ve never used that tool.
Perhaps, the algorithm needs a slight adjustment. LOL.
I’ll definitely have to try it.
I’ve basically recreated that tool the hard way (I think) by exhaustive study of the remaining 2315 words that haven’t been played yet.
I should learn Java and make my process into a solver app.
-
-
Green Score. Number of occurrences of the letter in the correct position for all 2315 original answers.
STEAL (No 2315) – 939. // Has not been played!
YONIC (Playable) – 613 // Playable word. Not likely to be the answer).
Perhaps a better choice would be.
========================ORCIN (Playable) – 652. Substitutes the “R” vs. “Y”.
“R” is the 3rd most common letter. “Y” is the 12th most common letter.
ORCIN also puts “R” in the optimal spot (2nd).
===============================
Anagrams of STEAL
===============================
LEAST (1535) – 1061 // Is this the best word?SETAL (Playable) – 1038
SLATE (548) – 1437 // Best Green Score! Earliest Repeat.
Puts “S” and “E” in the optimal positions.
* – Is this Wordle Bot’s start word?STEAL (No – 2315) – 939
STELA (Playable) – 846
TAELS (Playable) – 828
TALES (Playable) – 919
TEALS (Playable) – 896TESLA (Playable) – 697
=================================-
STEAL is one of my start words as well. You missed STALE, which is earlier than SLATE as a repeat.
-
Good catch! I analyzed that word, but forgot to post it.
STALE (505) – 1336 green score.
Indeed, this the earliest repeat, but the Green Score is less than SLATE which is 1437.
This makes sense since “L” is optimal in the 2nd position.
“T” is optimal in the last position. (It’s not bad in the first position also.)
-
Also SALET, which is my sisterβs start word, but not on the list.
-
I missed that one. Oops. Thanks for catching that!
SALET (Playable) – Green score is 1353. Pretty good, but not as good as SLATE which is 1457.
I think if you’re going for a ONE, “STEAL” is the winner.
If you’re going for the best lowest score average, then SLATE is best.
If you want to try for the earliest REPEAT, then you go with STALE (505).

CARLE chosen by Prof. MikeThe shoe dropped : CLOCK was PU #160! Following the Five Forks statistics, I tried 2 non-PU words: CLOUT and CLOMP. The last choice was between CLOCK and CLOWN (PU #432). I enjoyed working this one out considering the various possibilities.
Good βοΈ/π to all!P.S. Glenda M.
I felt exactly as you do when the change was first announced and for quite a while after! Now my BLOOD is down to a low simmer. To paraphrase Jeb : They moved our cheese and weβre finding it. BTW, ππππ for your solve in four!-
Thanks ADK – thought I’d got over the frustration too – and actually cross with myself for the choices I made….. (it’s because I take my solve average so seriously) so competitive
I do enjoy playing more once we’ve just got a repeat out of the way !

π©π©π©π©π© CLOCKThis is where the new rule is frustrating. Two good unused words COLOR and CRONY were my best choices for #3 (out of 18 words) but instead Iβm left just guessing from a bunch of used words afterwards.
-
PS – This is how I found βAfter Partyβ too! The repeat word SANDY threw my rhythm off and left me just guessing from a bunch of used words after playing a perfectly good unused word – I think it was SADLY. While I understand the rule change, it also changed my enjoyment of the game a bit.
-
I couldn’t agree more! I’d rather they switch to a 6 letter wordle with maybe a 7th guess.
-
I have an app that has you play a 6 letter version of Wordle (mixed in with the 5 letter version). I don’t play it that often.
-
My daily warm up for Wordle is Merriam-Webster Quordle which guesses 4 words at once. I don’t know if there is stat tracking. There are definitely repeats, but not back-to-back days.
MoreWordle has what looks to be a relatively inoffensive site that has 5-letter (easy), 6-letter (medium), and 7-letter (hard) daily words with stat tracking. Might be nice for a slightly different brain stretch.

There is stat tracking for Quordle. Look in the menus.
I stopped playing when I lost this history. I must have cleared my cache.

-
AMEN about the Wordle ESP!

It’s not wasting the “C” if you know there’s a “C” already in there.
Having one doesn’t necessarily rule out the duplicate letter.

The CLOCK strikes again, as I clomp away frustrated.-
Donβt be frustrated π Your solve in four with a Sea of Green is fine ππππ!
-
I agree with ADK. Your process was good.
Most times, you’ll end up scoring 3.
-
But I wanted a 3 today,!, waaa! and I changed it to clomp to use more letters. Haha. I am happiest when my 3s outnumber the 4s by 50 . Right now it’s gone down to a difference of 44
-
I want a 3 (or less) every day. I don’t always get it.
Yesterday, I got a 5! Yuck. (Partly due to a bad guess.)
I’m confident that you’ll be back to 50 within 2 weeks.
After 1416 days played, I have 252 more 3’s than 4’s (unofficially). I had to peak at my spreadsheet to see.

She needs to ADD more words to the answer list. There are plenty out there.
I’m not finished studying all 10657 Playable words yet, but there’s a lot of words she could consider using.
