Coincidence? I think not.

As I sit in my chair each day to do my Wordle there is a 110-year-old 20-gallon Red Wing CROCK sitting just to my left and yet it still took several guesses before the word popped into my head. At least I added to my Sea of Green badge.

Kim’s 110-year-old 20-gallon Red Wing CROCK-
Thanks for posting, Jeb. We were on one of our annual summer visits at my paternal grandparentβs farm in Nebraska (I was about seven) and my mother finally talked Grandma into giving this to her after admiring it in the basement for years. Dad and Grandpa loaded it into the back of the Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser for the drive back to California and it took up half my lounging area. My sister was much bigger so it had to be put on my side. Iβm happy to still have it here 50 years later.

(1) ROATE
(2) DUNCH
I played this word to narrow down the possibilities.broil, crock, crony, croup, dross, drown, furor, hydro, juror, and minor were all possibilities.
Worst case, the answer was either juror or furor.
Thankfully, I got the C in the correct position, leaving only one choice.
(3) CROCK

Also, no ADD today.
Every day this doesn’t happen, the more likely it will happen.

β¬π¨π©β¬β¬ Scone
π©π©π©π©π© CrockMy score today surprised me. I used Scone and got O in the right position and C in the wrong position. I made a letter by position chart for 18 possible answers. The highest scoring words on my chart were Crock or Clock. Clock was used in Game 160, so I decided to go with Crock which was not a Repeat.

Sorry for leading astray. Sometimes one must swim like the salmon upstream against the tide to NOT lay an egg! Today, (or toady,) was one of those times. I got lucky and listened to my gut…

Nice catch in three with only two letters! However, for the record, I’m NOT a TOADY! RIBBIT! HA!
-
Jeb, what does 88 and 10 mean after the first two Wordle block rows up top?
-
88 words left then 10 words left. (I should put wl.) You can analyze your play with http://www.scoredle.com or use Wordlebot with a private or incognito session.
Shows how well your words are filtering down to an answer.
-
Try not to narrow it down to 86 and 47 by mistake, or you could be in trouble. LOL!
-
Hah!
But careful.
They’re watching. π

Oops! Left a new post intended for reply to yours. No coffee yet = error mode…
-
I’ve done the same with Glenda because she is usually first in and her post hugs the comment form at the bottom, so you can think you are replying to her.
I’ll mull over how I can redesign that a bit.
-
” and the first shall be last….”
Thanks for giving this your consideration Jeb…
I had tried to wait until evening so my post didn’t always appear first – but it only worked once…… then I realized no-one else except 2nd commenter sees it at the top – doh π

It’s an OK strategy to guess a double letter when you have one of them already.
Risky is guessing a double letter when you don’t have it in your puzzle.
After guess 3, Since you’ve identified you have a C and O in the puzzle, you could’ve guessed a double of either one. (Note: no solutions come to mind for double R)
I think a “OO” (as in “CROOK”) would have been a fine guess (unless it’s already been played).
Or “CC” as in “CROCK” (of course).
I think “OO” is more common than “CC”; so, I would’ve gone that way unless “CROOK” was played already.
Personally, I’m still assuming these aren’t REPEATS until they are repeats. So, I rule out all the non-repeats first unless the non-repeats are not common words (and therefore not likely to be an answer.)
-
ah, yes… I rarely use a double letter straight off… unless I have a strong (but not always right) gut instinct….
CRO_ _ still had a few options – for sure.-
You know that I am not talking about guessing double letters on the first guess.
Only 2nd and beyond (if you have the letter identified)..
-
Yes – the 2nd & beyond JD –
I hadn’t made that clear at all…And thank you for keeping us up to date on the ADDs π
