The last time I used “cubit” was . . . . ?

I agree. I would prefer new adds over old repeats, unless there is a good reason/opp for a repeat (they totally missed a good opp not repeating “lunar” during the Artemis mission! What were they thinking?!

I was a little slow on the T which is always an issue for me, but I am wondering why no one else went for cubic before cubit. Seems much more common to me. I Ave a prediction of a repeat for tomorrow based off the word pattern of yesterday and today, but I’ll keep that for later. -

CUBITI understand my starters are burned words but I’ve given up on a solve in one after three solves in one. I figure my god shots are maxed out. I’m entertained with current streak of 884 and mini streak of solves in 3 or less. 9 is my max, I’ve averaged 3 for 13 games with 2’s and 4’s averaging out but a solid 10 streak with 3s or less eludes me. Back to today’s game, I use up the four common vowels in first two plays leaving the possible U as process of elimination since it ranks #11 overall. In my 1500+ games, I’ve discovered the letters RTLSNC are the commonest used consonants in that order, that words with 2 vowels most common by far followed by one,three, four, and no vowels. In addition, the S is by far the most commonly used starter letter by 2-1 it’s nearest rival the C. Third grouping are the letters HDYPM with minor interchanges between the D and the Y. I came to the latest quandary of repeats as it is coming up soon. My choices were itchy and cubit. Itchy went against my grain because it has only one vowel, plus it’s a burned word, high on my avoid list. Cubit made better sense with 2 vowels plus starts with the #2 starter letter. Problem is, how archaic does one dare to go? So I went with my gut and missed. Was actually surprised to get on 4th try. Was expecting to just eliminate the U!

I have a similar ploy with the vowels – often using all 5 plus the Y in my 1st 2 words
Your observations on the number of vowels words contain is interesting
And yes, S is way out in front for starting the most words! -

I’m not a subscriber. You should see a green “Share Results” button after you play or if you choose the stats link. That puts your results w/ green and yellow squares on your clipboard. You can then paste into a text message or here on the After Party!
When the guy who created Wordle added the Share button, the Wordle site went viral. Within a couple of months New York Times gave him a lot of $$$. Powerful button.

There are 9 of us playing so there is a frequent need to break a tie:

Rant:
Cubit was not in the original wordle solution list. It was added by the NYT. They removed “scuba” because it was to “too obscure and an acronym” (news flash NYT: the MW dictionary now lists “scuba” as a regular word, along with radar and laser, which also started as acronyms), but they add in an ancient unit of measure?!I got in 3 , by the way: Frost, culet, cubit. We have a family daily wordle (dordle, quordle) competition and the winner gets to pick the starter word everyone is required to use as their wordle starter word the next day. My sister picked “frost” because is still very cold and stormy in Seattle (water spout yesterday!) but, as always the scuba diving is excellent!

I can’t find anything on the web that suggests that SCUBA was removed from the 2315 list.
Can you kindly site your source on that?
There was once a rumor (on Reddit) that LASER was removed and then famously added as an answer later on, but it was always part of the 10,657 playable words list. Amazing that it was not part of the 2315 list.
Other words that are missing.
NAKED, NEXUS, JIHAD, BOGUS, COMBO, LEGIT, SWIPE, BEIGE, LOTUS, TUMMY.
So far, that is my top 10 (by COCA score). I’m still working on it.

Either Copilot or gpchat etc
Gave lists of several words that had been removed by for different reasons

– **AGORA, PUPAL, AORTA** → Considered too obscure or overly technical.
– **FETUS** → Removed due to political sensitivity during Roe v. Wade debates.
– **FIBRE** → Cut to avoid confusion with American spelling (*fiber*).
– **HYMEN** → Removed for explicit anatomical reference.
– **LYNCH, SLAVE, WENCH** → Removed for offensive or derogatory connotations.
– **SCUBA** → Removed because it is an acronym, not a standard word.-
I’m not saying you’re wrong, but be careful with the results you get by asking AI.
I use Gemini and ChatGPT all the time, and quite often it gives you the wrong answer.
These systems will scour the internet for all sources (truthful or not).
You need to use the Ronald Reagan philosophy. “Trust, but verify”.

According to my research, Josh Wardle created this program with 2 word lists.
1) 2315 answers
2) 10657 playable words.NYT removed 5 words.
FIBRE, LYNCH, PUPAL, SLAVE, WENCH.
AGORA (241.1), FETUS (324.1) were theoretically removed, but only after they were played. They show up on days where there were 2 solutions. AGORA was not on 2315, but FETUS was.
That brings the actual starting total of words to 2309 once NYT got a hold of it.
FIBRE was nixed due it being the British spelling of FIBER. (Josh Wardle is Welsh).
AGORA and PUPAL were too rare. (Although, they kept SUMAC and other words that are more rare…)
SLAVE, LYNCH, WENCH were removed because they were offensive. (I have come up with a ton of words on 10657 playable word list that are just as offensive.
FETUS was deemed too controversial.
=======================I have found nothing on SCUBA. A few words have started out as acronyms like RADAR, SONAR and LASER (an ADD).
I have found nothing on AORTA either. I think most people know this word.
Could they have thought it was too difficult to solve? They played RHYME and CATCH (my only loss).
Have they banned PENIS? This is my question. LOL.
Are we being too sensitive (as a society)?

OK, so I almost lost!
(1) ROATE
(2) TIGHT (ruled out everything but SPILT, SWIFT)
(3) SPILT (ruled out SWIFT. Aha, it’s an add or a repeat like I predicted!)
(4) UNFIT(415). Oy! What the heck is this word!?
(5) QUBIT. (COCA raw score of 271). Bummer! They just had these meetings for the Quantum Computing companies. It’s all over the news.
Anyway, It only be one word at this point.
(6) CUBIT. Add. (COCA raw score of 81).
I am not sure why CUBIT is a less common term than QUBIT. Maybe, because computing is the news more than the CUBITs used to measure Noah’s Ark!

I got lucky because my 2nd choice eliminated all non-pu, as well as PU, except for the answer. Cubit was definitely an unexpected solution.

I was thinking AUDIT (repeat) for today, but couldn’t reply to your post on yesterdays date
(took me 4)-
It was an ADD, like I predicted though.
AUDIT would have been optimal for yesterday’s answer due to Taxes being due in the USA on April 15th.
Since CIGAR, there were only 6 ADD’s vs 7 REPEATs, and she had keeping these items even. So, now 7 ADD’s vs. 7 REPEATs.
Since she had 3 repeats IVORY, COMET, SANDY before 2 adds CAROM, CUBIT, I think there may be one more ADD before a repeat, but a repeat is almost as likely.
I think something will happen in 3 or 4 days from now. Probably an ADD again.
ADD’s are simply words that are not in the 2315 solution list, but they are in the 10657 playable word list which I am in the process of analyzing for likely ADD’s.
I want to write a “Dear Tracy” letter to suggest words she could ADD rather than repeat, because I think we prefer the ADD’s.
