Having only the E to work with was tough, took me all day and I had to be walked away from an answer that wasn’t an -ED word. Still, it was pretty obvious that O was 2nd… still, all day. Refused to guess a repeat because we just had 2 so close to each other… even though it’s all I could think of.
    Sucks.
Really sucks because I’ve started with this before.

Was late, rushed, interrupted and tried to play my 2nd guess w a word starting with o since it’s been neglected. Nothing fit. Yodel came to mind. I usually test out other letters rather than taking a stab at a solution…but I stabbed and it was good!

With my first 2 guesses I got it down to Bowel or Yodel. I have suspected that Ms. Bennett is not fond of words like “bowel” due to negative associations like “bowel problems, constipation, bowel surgery,” etc. However, I was lured into going with Bowel over Yodel because according to the publicly available “Hidden” Wordle/wordlist at github.com as of today there are 41 Wordle words starting with Bo with FF indicating that 15 have been used, leaving 26 NU words including Bowel. There are only 5 possible answers starting with Yo of which 2 have been used: Youth in ‘22 and Young in ‘23, leaving 3: Yodel, Yoked, and Yokel. Of course my reasoning is not based on any factual research. I shared the 2 possible answers with my husband who does not play Wordle and he said, “It has to be Yodel because it’s October and I’m sure there is yodeling at the Oktoberfest in Germany, and also it’s a much more fun word.” I didn’t listen to him, but later I checked with Google and learned that in Germany the entertainment at Oktoberfest and other October beer celebrations often includes yodeling. 🙂🍺🙂

**** ‘What Hell Is This!?’ are movies with less than 500 IMDB reviews.
****** I have a stack of preselected horror comedies. My wife spins a wheel to see which one we watch.

    1. Have you ever seen “The Hunger”? It was a cool vampire movie with David Bowie in it.

The opening scene opens with Bauhaus playing “Bela Legosi’s Dead”.

It’s so very cool. (an 80’s movie).

      1. Oooo, Catherine Deneuve of ‘Umbrellas of Cherbourg’ and ‘Donkey Skin’.

If I’ve seen it, it was long ago. But I don’t think I have. I’ll have to give it a watch.

        Thanks for the recommendation!

      2. I have now watched The Hunger (1983). Almost entirely sure I hadn’t seen it before. Thanks again for the recommendation!

The feel of the Bauhaus opening doesn’t stick around very long. But there’s still a lot of style throughout. Very cinematically artistic.

I liked the way the movie made me ferret out it’s particular vampire mythology, with some aspects eventually defined and some still left for interpretation.

Some other good films that explore the pitfalls of vampiric immortality in very different ways:

        Near Dark (1987)

        Only Lovers Left Live (2013)

        1. * Only Lovers Left Alive

And, even though I already know I could pretty much daily be a target of the Grammar Police, …
          * its

        2. Glad you enjoyed it! I’ll have to look for some of the movies on your list.

        3. Meant to mention, ‘The Hunger’ was worth the watch. But would have been anyway if for no other reason than to see the credit “Willem Dafoe: 2nd Phone Booth Youth”.

He would have likely been 27 when the movie was filmed. And … he looked like Willem Dafoe. 😁

    2. Hi there! Avatar

Took a screen shot of your movie list…will look into them. Thanks.

      1. For the record, our October Movie Marathon in no way represents a recommendations list.

I tend to gravitate towards the artsy, or weird, or unintentionally bad. And I can still appreciate the classics and quality filmmaking.

These movies only occasionally cross over to be films I’d recommend.

Out of the movies this week I’d recommend:

        – Eyes Without a Face (1960)
A French classic with hauntingly ethereal imagery juxtaposed with the harsh realism of body horror. It will be obvious in some ways how it influenced the horror genre.

        – Moose: The Movie (2015)
Not good, … but a surprisingly funny genre parody with some moments that had us saying, “Really!? *This* is in a movie?” It was clear they had fun making it.

        – Phase IV (1974)
Weird creature sci-fi that in true 70s fashion asks more questions than it answers. But they’re interesting questions. Has a cast of all of six people and some truly astounding miniature cinematography. (This has stuck with me from childhood and holds up.)

        – Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die (2025 … not 2026)
An excellent satire of technology and the modern world. Fast moving, with laughs and surprises.

The other four are just standard (Land of the Dead, Night of the Creeps), so-so (Arachnophobia), or worse (Bad Milo!) … Too much reliance on toilet humor and bad improv dialog in that last one for my tastes.

Hope this helps narrow down what might actually be of interest to you.

🧟‍♂️ This is so great… You and wifey are soooo much fun!

The only movie from yours on my watchlist is Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die (because, Sam Rockwell 😉). I looked up your other super obscure picks and added Land of the Dead and Night of the Creeps.

Let me know how Moose goes. I typically love anything about park rangers—but really, a moosataur? 🫎+👨🏻?? I guess that does sound about right coming from the guy who once posted The Giant Claw. 😜

By the way… Have you watched Dark Shadows?

      1. Thanks, Christine!

See my Moose recommendation above. It’s a fun time for those with some horror genre knowledge and an appreciation for watching people having fun making goofy filmmaking decisions. … I’ll have to think on what other park ranger movies there are. I didn’t know it was its own genre. 🤔

I’ve seen maybe a few dozen Dark Shadows episodes. I borrowed some tapes from a friend back in the early 90s. I remember a scene with Willie sitting in a cemetery talking to himself and saying, “This place gives me the willies,” then laughing at himself for saying his own name.

I’ve thought about comitting to watching more of it, but there’s just so much. Honestly, if I’m going to catch up on an old show with a lot of content at this point it’s going to be Doctor Who.

I have seen Dark Shadows the movie with Johnny Depp. … Buuut, that’s not the same thing.

It is celebrated on October 12, the same date as Columbus Day in the United States. However, the focus of Día de la Raza is different. Rather than commemorating Christopher Columbus’s arrival, this holiday honors the Indigenous peoples of Latin America and the rich cultures that have developed over centuries through the blending of Indigenous heritage with that of the Spanish explorers.’

  28. I was snooping through the non-Wordle portions of this website, and I happened upon an instance of real-life ESP from Jeb!

Way back in 2003, almost 4 years before the release of the first iPhone, Jeb posted the following:

“I was thinking about cell phones, palm pilots, GPS, and wallets (credit cards, money, photos, i.d.s) Surely it will all converge into a single thing and that thing could be an iPod. Apple has built a method of keeping large data files easily updated on your “thing”. That includes music and photos. (People carry photos in their wallets.)

They’ve got address and calendar info updating via iSync like a Palm. How hard can it be to stick a phone and some GPS in there?

None of this bodes well for checks, but my Apple stock should go up.”

He predicted the iPhone (and Apple’s meteoric stock) years in advance! I hope he followed his own intuition in investing!

What other visions of the future might lie waiting in the mind of Jeb?
