What do y’all think of Jeb’s tagline?
Five Forks Wordle — Protecting streakers globally.
I’d fly that banner! (Cap, t-shirt, etc.)
Do you think Jeb would pose as the streaker for the logo?
Ha!the tagline could go right over you-know-what.
NEWS REPORTER: We’re now receiving reports from Five Forks University. Apparently another streak emergency is underway.
Sir, what did you see?
WITNESS: I was just checking my stats,
When Jeb appeared outta nowhere.
He had the re-pete filter in one hand,
The After Party in the other,
And he was shouting—
“PROTECTING STREAKERS GLOBALLY!”
Boogity, boogity!
(Here he comes!)

================================
This is only my fourth time getting it in six out of 1009 games in a row! I have never heard this word in my life. Admittedly, I was considering using a better filter word instead of DOWSE, but I thought that getting it in 5 was the worst-case scenario, with a 3 or 4 being more likely.
================================
Grid art: one of the two suns of Tatooine setting over a copse.
================================
I would like to point out that copse is such an uncommon word that my browser/OS gives it the red underline to indicate a misspelling.
================================
Lots of prospective repeats today, but unfortunately I do not have a good NU to normalize them against to analyze the K-Bot’s (Bot with Knowledge of past answers turned on—thanks to cousin Christine for the idea) assessment of likelihood. (DOWSE is NU but the low WB weight makes it difficult to normalize against.)
Phew!
You made me look up how many 6’s in the last 1009 games, because I have a total of 26 X 6s.
I was like.. wow, that’s a lot of 6s. But it turns out that 1009 games ago, I already had 22. So, it turns out to be only 4.
I piled up those 22 in my first 466 games!
My last 6 was on 4/16/26. So, it was not all that long ago.
That’s funny that we have the exact same number of 6s in our last 1009 games! Great minds think alike!
Before I discovered FF, I also had many more 6’s!
One of the many reasons to use FF/Wordle: it preserves streaks!
Thank you again Jeb for creating this site.

😎🤯😉
JD can you explain why the 58% percentage is equivalent to 100%? How did they arrive at 58%?
Honestly, the % symbol in the weights is misleading.
The WB weights are taken from WordleBot, which assigns higher weight to more common words that it thinks are more likely to be the answer. So, really common words like SLANT will have a weight of 58, while a much less common word like OGLER has a weight of ~40.
The exact value of a weight has no real meaning to us exact in comparison to the other weights.
At least as far as we’re concerned, 58% doesn’t represent 58/100. It simply represents a RELATIVE arbitrary weight of 58, which happens to be the highest one (for reasons unknown to me).
So, a weight of 58 represents the most common type of word, which is common enough that it is a great candidate to be an ADD. The lower from 58 a word gets, the less likely it is to be a solution (at least, according to the Bot).
Another way to think of it is that you could divide all weights by 58 such that the most common words would have a corrected weight of 1.00, while OGLER (WB% of 39.7642) would have a corrected weight of ~0.69.
I assume this means that, all else equal, OGLER would be 69% as likely as SLANT to be the answer.
In the third paragraph, I meant to say EXCEPT* in comparison to the other weights
EZ – Thank you! That explanation was really helpful.

Double black again, started with copse some time within the past 3 months. Really strange word I think, does something like a small group of trees really need a definition? How about a word for when the sun looks like a perfect circle in the sky because of the clouds?

Fused was a burner to rule in/out 7 words including a couple of possible repeats. I was trying to remember where I learned the word “copse.” I was suddenly transported back to a hot, muggy high school classroom in southern Mississippi well before most buildings had A/C, counting the minutes until the bell would ring while listening to our teacher drone on and on about Pride and Prejudice.
From a Google search:
“Jane Austen uses the word “copse” in Pride and Prejudice when Elizabeth Bennet hurries away to read a letter from Mr. Darcy:
‘She was no sooner in possession of it, than hurrying into the little copse, where she was least likely to be interrupted, she sat down on one of the benches, and prepared to be happy…’”.
Love those images. Have to ask. Was the building dark brick, 3-4 stories, ca. late 1800s? Cuz that’s the building I am suddenly being transported to 😉
Linda,
You were close! It was an expansive Southern-style beige building, 2 stories, on a well-landscaped campus. My dear mother told me that growing up she loved reading a series of books about some girls having fun adventures at a boarding school. She fulfilled that dream by sending me to boarding school! I enjoyed it although there was no A/C and in the fall and spring the heat and humidity were oppressive.
👁️💗Austen. All those “modern day” movies based on the book are a hoot. Thanks for the quote… did you end up being an Austen fan after all or is it still droning on and on?
But the most pressing Question: Macfadyen or Firth? 🗳️
Christine,
Years later I did become an Austen fan after seeing the 2005 movie, the only version I’ve seen. I also saw that Netflix is releasing a new 6-part Pride and Prejudice series in Dec. I’m not sure if I’ll watch it, but you have to admire an author who published a novel in 1813 that is still relevant today!

Can you share a link to the NYT usage frequency page?
Why would you move away from SLATE since it’s been serving you so well?
A streak of 365 would give you a full year of victory.
Ummm… mostly because 365 wouldn’t be funny.

Question for anyone:
Why does the 🤖 continue to play TARPS or any noun plus “S” word if it is never going to be the answer?
From NYT wordle faqs:
Here’s a cheat sheet:
15,000: The words that Wordle accepts as guesses, most of them very obscure.
4,500: The subset of words the bot uses for suggestions to readers in its analysis. They’re supposed to be reasonably familiar, and they include words that the bot knows can’t be solutions, like plural words ending in “s” or “es,” but that can be helpful as guesses.
3,200: The words the bot considers plausible solutions, with probabilities assigned to each one based on Times usage frequency. No plurals here, for example.
2,309: The old, original list of solutions. No longer consulted by the bot in any way.
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/02/16/upshot/wordlebot-faq.html?smid=url-share
I think it’s because it’s not going for an ACE.
It’s trying to rule out (or in) the high frequency letters (especially consonants) while trying to avoid the pillars of doom.
TARPS is a hard mode play, right?
I think we’ve discussed this one before.
Yes a Hard Mode play with NO Knowledge of previously used words. (I already forgot what we decided to call that Bot).

Yeah but you were neck and neck in the second half of the last century!
Wordle had a little surge in the 1870s!
Stop boys, before I sent the COPS after you!
Who knew? Someone alert Tracy.
“During the Victorian-era industrial boom of the 1870s, the term ‘wordle’ appeared in metallurgical texts, patent registries, and manufacturing journals to describe specialized steel plates used by metalworkers to reduce the thickness of wire.”
Fascinating!
That was a low bar to hit
I’ve got friends in low places.
Thanks for that ear worm. Heading to the bar now!
Lol!
Now THAT’S funny! Since Jiggy is a word, perhaps Jebby could be modern slang for flat-lining, like “The skunk on the road was lookin’ a bit Jebby.” Beats Jack, used to describe just about any thing or activity known. Just sayin’….

Wordle 1,924 3/6

🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 COPSE
Here’a a good example of how the game has changed w repeats.
-Nice to get 2 greens but still 21 great words to choose from.
-Only 2 are NU – Copse and Creme.
-Instead of choosing between those two, I check the ranking of when ALL the other words were played and keep the low ones as possibilities. But really, most of them are possibilities!
-I used an elimination word hoping the PU words I deemed “most viable” were good enough and hoped for the best.
So I think of JD’s question awhile back…would you rather have one green or two yellows? Two greens seemed great today but repeats still leave the door wide open to finding solutions.
🙋🏼♀️I’d rather have 5 greens!
That’s the right choice!!
With my 3 sibs, we use these rules to determine the winner in this order:
1. Least number of rows wins. (Period.)
2. Most green first (1st tie breaker.)
3. Most yellow first (2nd tie breaker.)
I almost feel like you should reverse the two tiebreakers to give preference to the less lucky person! (You could also use the WordleBot’s luck score, though that would add an extra click or two)
I almost didn’t play COPSE because of it’s slightly low WB%.
It turned out to be the best filter for all the OG NU words.
If it ruled out all OG NU words (very possible), I probably would have played DOUSE – 58% (ADD) over THOSE #227 or GOOSE #357.

I was looking up COPSE earlier, and it is more British English than American English. It sort of explains the lower WB%.
I have heard the word before, but couldn’t remember what it meant.
Wordle 1,924 3/6
⬜⬜🟨🟩🟩arose
🟨⬜⬜🟩🟩obese
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩copse
I was sure I had a 2! Didn’t even know what a copse was until I googled it.
Bad luck for the 2! OBESE was the first word that came to mind as well.
But, it could also have been DOUSE and DOWSE instead of COPSE. Hence I chose DOUSE as a possible solution and as an eliminator.
I probably would have played OBESE 58% over COPSE 55% too given only those 2 choices.
happy with my 3… quick game – tralalalalaa 🎶
⬜⬜🟨⬜⬜ VISTA nu (awoke thinking use MUSHY-promptly forgot the word)
⬜🟩⬜🟩🟩 DOUSE add (old fave)
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 nu (made the correct choice of 3 options – phew)
[floating S taunting – where you gonna put me, huh, huh ?] gotcha
Nice 3! I like using douse as a starter too.
