I have been wondering about the per-word odds for those different groups! Thank you for doing the analysis!
The ratio of remaining ADD:OG NUs vs. the ratio they are actually the solution does seem to all but rule out the theory I have previously mentioned: that TB simply threw in all the ADDs and OGs into a new solution list and is choosing randomly among this new list.
Of course, this assumes that our premise of WB% >37% being the true prospective ADD pool is correct or close to correct. Theoretically, if the true list of prospective ADDs is much smaller than the list of WB% >37% words, we might see the observed ratios. Though, there might be more variation in the ADD proportion each month if this were true.
In the last paragraph, when I say “we might see the observed ratios,” I mean, the theory in the second paragraph could potentially still be true if there are many fewer ADDs than we think
Right, like I said before, if NYT dumped all the ADD candidates into the answer pool, then Wordle Tools and others would have picked up on it. We would also know this, because the ADD rate would be higher than the OG NU rate by significant margin (possibly close to 50%).
I picked 37% because of the tier drop off after 37% rapidly to 2%, but I have concerns about some of the words in the 37%-40% range.
We can definitively draw a line in the sand at 40%, because that is where PSHAW is.
When your start word leaves you with only one viable option, a 2 is in the bag. ➡️🛍️

How do you feel about using apostrophes to pluralize individual lowercase letters?
I hate Auto Correct in office apps. Every time I tried to pluralize two capitals by adding s, like FFs (Friend Finders hypothetical), it would change the 2nd letter to lower case (Ffs). I had to toggle off Auto correct and Auto capitalization in settings to get it to quit

I know you guys say that LEANT wont be the answer because its British, but LORRY was played on #1859. LORRY WB% is 53%. So, yes, better than LEANT, but better than PSHAW 40%. So, it is not outside of the realm of possible words.

I’m with you on your analysis of leant. Time will tell.
You very well may be right about LEANT, but I think it is a little different from LORRY in that LORRY is just a British word. Americans wouldn’t spell it any differently. So, for example, there could be a NYT article with the word “lorry” (perhaps in a quote).
On the other hand, LEANT is a British spelling of a word that has a different American spelling. Even if they were quoting a British person, I think it would always show up in an NYT article as “leaned.”
So, I am not saying for certain that LEANT will be an answer.
I am just saying that it still could be an answer.
If it isn’t an answer, then there is different selection criteria between the WB% in Wordle Bot vs. TB and her team (even though they are both NYT.)
Perhaps the WB% for this word will be adjusted down at some point. I am not convinced any of this is static.

Your 3+ stats are all significantly better than mine, many more 3s and fewer 4s, 5s, and 6s. I’m envious of your 3 to 4 ratio.
I have a new goal idea, but you’d have to change your name. … You could wipe the SLATE clean and go full Kim S by coming up with a list of rotating start words to increase your chances of boosting your 1s and maybe your 2s.
Your higher number stats may suffer occasionally. But if you’re finding the SLATE patterns repetitive this could open up a buffet of new patterns to explore.
It’s either that or change your start word to CRYPT. Those are my only two ideas.

I have more than 2X the 5’s as you and a lot fewer 3’s.

Since your average is 3.352, you’re not far from 3.333 (repeating decimal) and a tougher goal would be pi = 3.1416
The closer you get to 3, the harder it is to bring that average down.
I suspect that even if we made the perfect possible bot, it may not get down to a pi average!

My inaccurately named (as I explained to JD a few weeks ago) Starts List currently contains 125 words, though 39 have been crossed out after being the answer. I created the list a few years ago after I discovered FF and wanted to keep track of unused words that would make good starts. I think I only had about 10 words when I started it, then continually added new ones as they popped into my head. Once FFAP got going, I saw what my fellow Nerdles were using and added more. So it’s a dynamic list.
My daily selection has no regular rotation, but it’s not completely random either. Here’s how I explained it to Ez the other day: I base my choice off the last few weeks of answers on FF, letter patterns, gut feeling, crystal ball images, etc. 🧐🧙🔮🧪🍀

Yes, past tense verb ED words like TAXED are unlikely. WB% is 0.23%.
Though I think it can be if the past tense is irregular. I remembered being shocked at FRIED.
I suppose FRIED is not exactly irregular in the sense that it doesn’t follow typical grammar rules, but irregular in the sense that it’s not just the present tense word with “ED” added at the end.
I think FRIED is different, because it is primarily an adjective (although derived from the word fry and is past tense of fry also.)
Think of FRIED chicken.
When you look it up on MW, it shows up as an adjective.
When you look up TAXED, it goes directly to TAX.

Two strong consonants R and S were eliminated in TARSE. That ruled out many words for step two: all but one as it turned out. WordleBot using the PU list found THETA immediately, but I had to go through TINEA.

Just curious, are you using the Five Forks list to check for previously played words. You’ve got three high numbered repeats in your guesses.

I take it so hard to myself. I don’t use any list and only rely on my memory. This makes it more exciting!

When we started playing Wordle, my wife and I kept a list of the words that were being used so we didn’t have to play the memory game of what had been played before. … Them we found the Five Forks list.
