Late to the party, but quite proud of this, my 9th 2-solve in August! SLEPT has been my go-to starter for a few months now. 46 words left after the first guess, but the list helped me narrow it down.

⬜🟩⬜⬜🟨 Slate
⬜⬜⬜🟩🟨 Cried
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 OldenCried was an almost perfect filter for 9 words, including a potential Repeat (Blood). I disregarded Plier (singular) as it means a “seller” as in “a plier of cheap goods” (Google). I didn’t think Ms. Bennett would try to trip us up us with that one. 🙂

NYT AVG. 2.7 ☹️-
The original NYT avg was momentarily incorrect at 2.8 for me, too. It then fixed itself later back up to 3.8.
-
Now at 4:45 PM Pacific time it’s at 2.8 on the NYT app! 3.8 sounds much more reasonable and more probable, based on the analysis

👂🏻 Have y’all heard the latest on the Wordle game show? They started filming the entire 1st season last month to air on NBC early 2027. It’s team competition playing for big 💰🏆. Not sure this will be an interesting game show. 🤷♀️

Yes I’ve heard that Savannah Guthrie is hosting. I am curious how they are going to solve these LIVE and not lose much time or make it interesting. It sometimes takes me several minutes to come up with a strategic word.

It does seem tricky to turn Wordle into a game show. What makes a game show work?
Knowledge/Puzzling
Chance
Risk
Viewing Audience Participation
Personality
Excitement/Prizes
… ?Wheel of Fortune is a close analog to Wordle. That show has all of the above and has run for thousands upon thousands of episodes.
Countdown in the UK is also similar and has nearly as many episodes, with much less chance and the prize for the regular shows always being a teapot. But this show gives a lot of space for audience participation. … 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown brought the personality.
Deal or No Deal had the knowlege/puzzle dial down to virtually zero, with chance and risk turned way up. It ran for many hundreds of episodes. … Not that it was a good show.
Only Connect, again a UK show, is the driest nerdfest of almost pure knowledge and puzzling. It too has run for several hundreds of episodes. I feel like a genius if I get two correct answers when I watch that show.
So, depending on its production, there’s wiggle room for Wordle to be a successful game show, if success and network television are concepts that can still associate.
Anything is possible.
I present to you … Starcade!
-
They’ll probably have a count down/time limit for each guess. Seems most likely players will not get it in 2 or even 3?
-
-
Wow! I’m looking forward to seeing how Wordle can be turned into a game show!

⬛🟨🟨🟨🟨 KENDO
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 OLDEN[Rhythmic Gymnast, Awaiting]
I thought OLDEN for guess three. But looking it up I fell for the Ecosia descriptor (not definition) as ‘archaic’, and thought its use maybe too narrow as I could only think of it tied to ‘days’ and ‘times’.
Plus, when I thought of KENDO I was reminded of the discussion for more worldly words in Wordle.

Wordle 1,891 3/6
⬜⬜⬜⬜🟨 RAISE
⬜⬜⬜🟩🟨 BETEL
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 OLDENRAISE leaves 20 words.
BETEL is the best filter because there are 11 words with an L, 10 words with EE, 5 words starting with B: BEECH, BETEL, BEZEL, BONEY and BOWEL. 5 words containing a T. Gives me a 3 in 16 cases.
BETEL leaves LUMEN and OLDEN. A 50/50.
OLDEN contains the tier 2 letters O and N.
It is correct

Foolishly used PLIER today. Then recalled the weighted percentile you referenced with PLIED on 8/12, I believe. I went to the link that you posted on 8/18. The list is endless. Is there a way you see the percentile easily? Thanks.
-
Hi Judy,
I would just go to Wordle Tools and sort by Alphabetical
https://wordletools.azurewebsites.net/weightedbottles?SortOrder=ByWeight&submit=Submit
I hope that helps.
JD
-
Definitely! I saw it sorted by weight. It was a daunting list. Sorting alphabetical is manageable for sure. Again, thanks for the tips. You’re always helping someone.

⬜⬜🟨⬜🟨 STEAL
⬜🟩⬜🟩⬜ BLUER
⬜🟩⬜🟩🟨 PLIED
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 OLDENPLIED was unlikely as the answer. But it helped me get to OLDEN.
I wrote down some NU suggestions from others for future play.
-
🙋🏼♀️ Plied seemed more likely to me than olden … 🧐 what is your thinking? Curiosity has got the 🐈⬛.
-
I think its Weighted Bottle score is low.
I think because of PLIED, PLIER are too similar and PLIED is an ED word (past tense verb)
PLIED WB is 0.22%
PLIER WB is 2.4%I think they decided that these words are too hard to solve.
-
Aha-I see what you’re saying! 🤦🏻♀️ Since both are NU OG words plus the lucky pi in plied, I thought it more likely -without using any tools.
Plied is one of the few past tense words ending in -ed in the original list. I only see 11 such words among 65 total past tense words. (info found online so unverified)
-
It seems to me that plied should be an acceptable solve word because the present tense is PLY, so it is not just adding ed to it. At least that’s my understanding!
-
I have no problem with this word personally, but the Weighted Bottle score indicates that it wont be an answer per NYT.
Weighted Bottle score comes from Wordle Bot which is a NYT product.

I’m surprised SUTOR is a common Wordle word.

l wouldn’t call it a common word – it might be on that list that includes acceptable guess words that will not be solutions.
I can’t find the exact quote but I have read in Wordle information that almost anything is accepted as a first word (no proper nouns however) and the skill points are not included in your final score. Some people use ;things like XXYZZ and Roman numerals.
