  2. Wordle 1,872 4/6

    ⬜⬜🟨⬜⬜ RAISE
    ⬜🟨⬜🟨⬜ LINTY
    🟨⬜🟩🟩⬜ OPTIC
    🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 MOTIF

RAISE leaves 38 possibilities. This is the worst pattern for RAISE. I in the wrong position.

First time I got this pattern with this word. There haven’t been a lot of I words lately. This just makes it more possible.

I decided on LINTY as a filter because of the number of words with Y(16), T(14), L(13). N is only 6.

I also wanted to rule out or in I in the second position. Let’s call it I2.

LINTY leaves only MOTIF, OPTIC, and VOMIT

So, of course I had to guess the word with P in it OPTIC.

OPTIC leaves only MOTIF because of T3.

I also considered HOTLY. That would have given me a 3.

I do the initial posting on my iphone. I just must have hit the wrong day.

I couldof, shouldof gone with Reply for the 3rd guess but went with Ruler since it has 2 Rs. The highest letter by position score from real-statistics.com among Bluer, Reply, and Ruler was Bluer which is rated as “Common as an adjective” and “Rare as a noun” [?]. Reply had the second highest letter by position Score. I have no idea if Ms. Bennett still uses an algorithm at times to choose the answers, but in case she does I continue to check the letter by position scores.

    🟨🟨⬜🟨🟨 PLIER
    🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 REPLY

I think JD said there is a low likelihood of PLIER and PLIED but I played it today to place/rule out letters. Worked out for me.

    1. PLIER was effectively removed from the answer list by Wordle Bot. It’s Weighted Bottles score is %2.37.

PLIED is even worse. It’s Weighted Bottle score is %0.23.

So, PLIER is more likely than PLIED, but neither is going to be the answer (probably).

%58 is a certain play. Don’t ask me why they picked %58, because I don’t know yet. It’s a coding thing.

That said. PLIER is a good filter, because of the high value letters (LIER), and it certainly worked out for you today.

      Good job.

JD – That bot/tool I mention above might do the calculations you were pondering yesterday. It’s a post play tool, but it has a ton-o-settings integrated to test best words based on various scenarios. Maybe you have seen it before. I searched for alternative wordle bots and found it this morning.

      https://wordgamesbot.github.io/?Rangsk

      1. Haha, I tried this tool. I think their logic is broken.

If I say the answer is REPLY and I guess RAISE, it does calculate the approximate amount of words left as 3.559 (I said 4.) If I’m reading it right, but then it says the best guess is then BUNDT (huh?) That’s in EASY mode.

If I switch it to ULTRA mode, then it says ROPER is the best guess which may be slightly more reasonable but it’s not on the 2315 list.

ROPER’s weighted bottle score is %49.82 which makes it a likely ADD, but not as likely as REPLY.

This brings up the question. Is ULTRA mode a thing? I have seen someone mention this before.

I still play in easy mode, because I want to occasionally throw in the burner word (in case of the ATCH or similar patterns.)

Most of my games probably could have been played in hard mode though.

        1. 🥸 Christine Avatar
          🥸 Christine

Huh. That’s a drag. I had hoped it would be a fun new analyzer. But, I don’t want to trade one broken analyzer tool (NYT🤖) for another.

Logic is hard … ha ha

          1. It can be.

Thanks very much for letting me know about it.

There was a chance that I could have gotten some use out of it.

I need to learn Java and write my own tool based on the method I use.

I’ve been thinking about the letter “value” logic and it may be easier than I originally thought.

Hi fellow slater. Do you keep a list of preferred 2nd words or do you decide each day?

      1. I decide each day. Today we had. Yellow E and L. I then went to my list that is Y-LE; felon, reply, whelk, whelp, belly(pu), filer, leper. Although I always try to use R on my second guess, I went for felon because it’s been used a lot here. Darn! But 3’s are great!

    1. LEPER isn’t a bad guess. It gave you 2 more letters.

There are 43 words left with EE on the original answer list.

Out of 478 words left, that’s very good odds especially since you established that there is one E in the puzzle already. There are only 186 words with at least one E in it.

      That’s a %23 chance of a EE.
