Wordlebot said CHURN was the only remaining solution, but I can’t see why CURVY wouldn’t work too.

    The ‘bot is sometimes inscrutable.

    1. Maybe because CAROM and CURVY put the “R” in the 3rd position, and the feedback you got is that the R is NOT in the 3rd position.

In CHURN, “R” is the 4th position.

CURVY is an unplayed solution and will probably be the answer some day.

This took a little longer as it was a new pattern to chart.

RAISE left 26 words on my list.

CRONY is the best filter I could come up with which only gives me a 3 in 10 out of the 26 words.

    6 words start with C. 14 of them have an O, 9 had an N, 8 had a Y.

Thankfully, CHURN was one of the 3’s.

WORDLEπŸ€“s… If my assumptions need correcting, please chime in… I have kept records of every game I’ve ever played including spreadsheets with best 2nd words in any given situation. My plays are often the same as the bot. But not always because I have had more info than the botβ€”even when toggling on the β€œuse knowledge” button because I use the OG list only. But bot says it has 3,209 possible answers and I don’t know THAT list. Is that a findable list? Are gunky, pshaw, etc. in that 3,209 list or are they adding words on the fly?

    1. LEAST was a genius word Avatar
      LEAST was a genius word

Christine didn’t you publish this full list on July 16?

      1. Christine Avatar
        Christine

That was the list of words that wordle started withβ€”about 2,300

    2. I also have records of every game.

I create a cheat sheet that lists every possible iteration of ROATE and now RAISE. So, depending on the pattern after the first word, I can look on my sheet to see what my choice for a second guess is. It also tells me the last date that pattern came up, how many words are left and what date I made my list / guessing chart / matrix for each combination. I keep a daily journal of all my guesses.

Regarding the words left number, does it give you this number before or after your first guess?

      1. Christine Avatar
        Christine

What made you change from ROATE to RAISE and how’s it going sort of starting all over? Maybe that’s the challenge I need, too. Sounds like we (esp you) track a lot of info each day πŸ€“ πŸ€”

Regarding the words left number, on the bot’s first guess analysis page, towards the bottom, it says β€œHere’s how our guesses divided the 3,209 solutions that I think remained before your guess.” Since it says it’s before my first guess, am I to assume that there is a word list of 3,209? I don’t know that I understand, so that’s why I’m asking. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

        1. Are we sure we’re not transposing numbers here?

The people who looked into the Java code for Wordle identified 2315 answer list created by Josh Wardle at the time he sold it to NYT.

NYT removed 6 words. This left 2309 words in the answer list.

          2309 or 3209? 2-3 vs 3-2 Coincidence?

          1. Christine Avatar
            Christine

I wish it were a transposing error, but I am copying and pasting verbatim: β€œHere’s how our guesses divided the 3,209 solutions that I think remained before your guess.”

This number shows up every day in the first guess page of the bot’s analysis. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I can’t figure this one out.

          2. Christine Avatar
            Christine

I asked google ai and it gave me a link to the list it says is the 3,209 words. I didn’t count them but the list is on WEIGHTED BOTTLES on wordle tools. Hmmm.

          3. OK, So, I am continuing my conversation with Gemini on this one.

            The plot thickens!!!

This weighted list on “Weighted Bottles” is interesting.

They weight the guaranteed answer list with words at %58 (no idea why they chose that particular percentage), but it’s not ALL 2309 words. It’s only 2110 words!

This means that NYT removed 199 words from the answer list but didn’t publish it.

So, I need to redo my analysis on the unplayed 2110 list not the 2309 list! This explains why certain types of words aren’t being played (like the ED words I mentioned in an earlier post).

        2. So, the same people who scanned the Java code came up with that 2315 word answer list. They identified the most frequently used letters as E A R O T.

If you anagram EAROT, you can get ROATE or ORATE.

They identified ROATE as having a better positional score than ORATE, so it was deemed as being the starter word with the best average of number of words left.

So, since its more likely that unplayed words get played than played words, I decided to do an analysis of the 530 words (approximately) to see how many of each letter was present in those words and I found the 5 most common letters were now E R A S I.

Possible anagrams of ERASI are ARISE, RAISE and SERAI.

RAISE has the best positional score (or green score) of the 3.

So, I switched to RAISE from ROATE.

          1. Christine Avatar
            Christine

Your analytical skills are amazing! Since you have more knowledge than the bot, it’s a better choice than SLATE. We’ll all need a new starting word soon.

        3. I had a brief discussion with Gemini on this one (I’ve had many conversations with it about Wordle).

This 3209 word list is a thing, but it only exists in WordleBot.

Wordle itself is still working from the 2309 (2315 – 6) solution set and the 10657 playable word list.

So, 894 words were added to the 2315 to get to that number.

I don’t know if that makes it more likely that those words will become answers to the puzzle or not. Perhaps.

At least it’s a shorter list to analyze than the one I just scanned!

I’ll have to add yet another tab to my spreadsheet just to analyze this sublist. This will require obtaining the list and then comparing it to the 2315 list to extract the words that are left.

          1. Figuring from 2309, it’s 900 words. A nice round number!

        4. Thank you for that compliment!

My only fear is that they’ve curated the list to finish certain letters early like “C”.

One observation is that there are 128 words left ending in Y.

Straight odds says that’s a %25 chance that a word is going to end in a Y. So, you would think that we would have seen more words ending in Y.

However, we’ve only seen TODDY this month and PUPPY on 6/30 in recent days.

          Y?
