Luckily I thought of QUELL before SIEVE, so I went with my first thought. But I had to convince myself to do so by investigating the Five Forks list.
I discovered that since the beginning of 2025 Q has been appearing much more regularly. Before 2025 the outliers in days of separation were 4 and 8 for lows, and 189 and 187 for highs, with four more instances of over 100 days. From January 2025 on the outliers have been 11 and 17 days for lows, and 79 and 70 for highs.
The overall average separation of Q appearing, not including today, is 68.2 days. Before 2025 the average was 81.9 days. But since 2025 only, the average is 46.3 days, again not including today. And by a weird coincidence it’s been 46 days since the last appearance of Q.
Long story short (too late), I determined it felt like it was time for a Q word.

🌊🏄♂️ yeah, baby! two two’s in a row. does not happen for me very often.
this was tool assisted, especially the sweet new “excluded” filter. my starter planted the “e” and knocked out all double “e” entries. used wordle solver to get a list of 83 potential candidates and used the ffdf w/excl to get the already played list. sifted through those two collections to get four reasonable options.
felt like quell with the “ll” would be the one to bet on first. 🎲🎲 🎯😎
so yeah, definitely had help on this one but i’ll take it. 👍

It’s always been interesting to me how common J is as a first letter for names, and yet so very uncommon everywhere else. 🤔

Easy solve thanks to the FF PU filter!
One weird thing, though. Wordle bot said 6 remaining, only 2 unused were QUELL (the answer) and KVELL. I chose QUELL because I think a Yiddish word is less likely.
However, CREEL seems much more likely to me than KVELL, but was not listed amongst the 6 possible remaining words. Why? That would have been my next guess if QUELL was wrong. I only found out after the solve that it was not in the Wordle Bot’s dictionary.
yeah, creel was my starter for a long time until i discovered it was not on the official list. 🤷♂️
…now i start my days at the creek instead.
