TENSE
DIVER
WRECK
again, I donβt get to pick the
Starter word. My wife did because we we were very TENSE watching our grandson play playoff baseball (they won 21 to 17)And on Crypt as a starter, our son has tried to convince us that PHYCH is also and execellent starterπ

I love the idea of CRYPT as a start word. I wish it hadn’t been a solution last year. Otherwise I might be using it now as my regular.
-
Can you explain to us why you think CRYPT would be a good start word?
-
Ah. I didn’t say CRYPT would be a ‘good’ start word. π
I do think it would be fun and relatively effective though.
It’s the anti ADIEU and AUDIO.
Instead of searching for the common vowel(s) that a word is built around, CRYPT would focus on the consonants and those pesky Y words.
I don’t know stats on this kind of stuff, but R and T are definitely frequent in words, with C and P being frequent enough. And all of them can be pretty friendly with a few but not all other consonants, which can be helpful.
It’s unlikely that CRYPT would hit many 2’s, though neither would AUDIO.
And as absolute incontrovertible proof*, I bet all of us would have almost certainly gotten today’s word in three using CRYPT as a start word.
*(not actually proof of anything)
-
OK.
I think the way Ruth used it is good as a second word after SANER which is a solid start word IMHO.
I wont bore you with the green and yellow score analysis unless you want it.
I don’t play ADIEU, AUDIO either, but I know people who do. ADIEU is actually most popular starter word, but I think it has deep strategical flaws.
People do it just to play 4 vowels. I think this overrates the letters “U” and “D”.
-
If I reach some of my goals and hit TREAD in one, I’ll have to give CRYPT a test run.

I feel like I should have gotten this in 2 since I was just talking to my niece about WRECK-It Ralph, but the pending ELECTion got the better of me.

maybe you played “ERECT”?

I have nothing constructive to add here.
But I am curious about the pending … answer to this question.

OMG. I think Iβm losing brain cells. You are correct; it was ERECT. I was so busy coming up with something clever to say about my guesses that I didnβt even notice I got my own word wrong! π€¦π»ββοΈ

The only thing I can think of is a drafting arm and 45 triangle used by architects and drafters.

For the post-game analysis WordleBot suggested Dreck as the 3rd guess, so the Bot also got it in 4. I read that Dreck is an acceptable guess but not on the answer list.-
Thatβs correct. DRECK is not on the 2315 list, but is on the 10657 (Playable) list.
It means trash or rubbish per M-W.
It has a COCA score of 218 (per billion words used). On OED, it is used 0.02 per million words used.
In theory, it could be an ADD candidate, because itβs more common than some of the other ADDβs she added already like LORIS.
-
You lost me with the COCO score and the ADD, but I’m sure you’re correct! I found it humorous that Dreck which I thought was only a Yiddish and German word is in its vocabulary. I just looked it up and according to AI, “It was adopted into everyday American English slang to describe junk, rubbish, or something of very poor quality.” I believe in Yiddish it refers to excrement.
-

Thought weβd have an E today but wasnβt sure if there would be another vowel.
#1 SEPIA – One lousy E. I guess I should be glad I was right. π But, instead, I tried to check if O was in the word.
#2 CRONE – Well, looked like we would have E with C and R.
I thought of an obscure word but didnβt bother to check the archive. π
#3 DRECK – Weird, huh? But, it did get me all but one letter away!
#4 WRECK – π

@ADK Iβm curious if Wordle allows different words based on the country. Iβm learning many new words through your gameplay: Reast and Enrol (US adds an L).
-
Not likely.
The word list is baked into the code.
I donβt see them having a separate program for every country.
The words you see, you could play also.

REAST! Great word! An anagram of STARE. Placement is important!
Iβm adding it to my list of possible first tries.
