Especially when there is the possibility of a repeat word.

I had an OFF day today.

For me (and only me!), a solve in 4 is a fail. I am disappointed about this one because I really thought it through, but looking back I see that my 2 and 3 guesses were unwise.

I am not surprised that you hold the same view, JD. I just didn’t want to imply that I viewed anyone else’s 4+ solves as fails. It is a standard I impose only on myself.

Well, I knew Nelly was a streach, as it’s auto-capitalized! Had to look it up to see if playable, and I was right! It’s for the birds! But I couldn’t think of another word with what I had remaining. Went through the remaining alphabet until W jumped out to fill the blank. May I cuss now, or is it curse? Aaarg!-

I’m always learning new words with this site. That one is a new one on me.
My results were even worse than yours.

I finally found out umbra is the Latin root for umbrella! Not being catholic I’m ignorant of most all that is Latin! I still throw a penalty flag for forcing Latin onto us, though I’ll remember umbra now! Ha!

Almost ALL words in English have either Latin or Greek roots.
You only have to think about all the places that the Romans were in Europe.
The biggest influence of English is probably French, because they traded a lot. French has it’s root’s in Latin.
That’s why they call it a ROMANce language.

Same here! Moreso it seems since the threat of repeats. They say in chess, “The threat is more deadly than the execution.”

The odds of a REPEAT is still about %10. The odds of an ADD is still about %10.
Strategically, your best bet is to assume neither will happen on any given day.
So, try to keep it to common words that haven’t been played.
