ROATE
GAILY
BUMPS (Ruled out all remaining 2315 words)
SANDY (pure luck. Also eliminated a few more letters if it wasn’t correct.)Also, It could have been
SASSY, SAVVY, MASSY, MASHY or WASHY.I figured it wouldn’t likely to be the last 3 words. So, it had to be a repeat.
-
Thinking of Ground Hogs Day, thanks for prompting a trip down memory lane and the Sonny and Cher song I can’t get out of my head.
-
There are two movies I watched twice the same day. Ironically, one was Ground Hog Day. The other was Memento… which maybe has some irony too.
-
-
Regarding yesterdayβs word, SANDY, Iβm still π . I ran out of options and my streak plummeted to zero. I had been keeping my own list of previous words and SANDY was on it. Therefore I assumed that SANDY was not an option. Isnβt that one of the ground rules?
-
Linda,
NYT announce they would start repeating words on Feb 2 (Groundhogs Day) which shook things up. There is count of repeats at the top of the list.
You can read a summary of this on Five Forks Support > Tips & FAQs. There is also a bunch of discussion on the General Feedback and the After Party discussions, especially on repeat days.
-
Mea culpa, Jeb. I missed that Groundhog’s Day announcement. I appreciate your pointing out some resources.
-
NYT did a press release about repeats, but they really should have made a big announcement on the game window itself. There are plenty of people still learning words are repeating.
When I heard they would start repeating on Ground Hogs Day (which is funny if you think of the movie), I decided to start with the first past answer– CIGAR #0– because I thought that would be a funny throw back.
That is my only 1 row solve ever!

Just not as fun anymore – debating on not playing. Maybe they should start fresh with all words. But this repeat occasionally thing does not work for me.
-
Try reframing in Marinne. I’m figuring out how to have fun with it. They were running out of common words and had to start repeating at some point. I agree on something like a once-a-year shuffle of the deck, but really it is like the just did a bad shuffle of the deck. So any word can repeat BUT we are seeing patterns especially that 90% are still new words. See Support > Tips & FAQs on how to play in this repeat world. Stick with us (if you can.) Wordle on!
-
Jeb, Iβm trying to understand how what they did is any different than shuffling the deck. Now it seems that any word can randomly be used, precious answers or not, just as if it was shuffled. Unless you think there are patterns remaining, which would mean not a true shuffle.
The same month/day thing has me intrigued.-

Charles, We are currently 1750 answers through the approximately 2,315 common word list. So that’s 75%. The time was coming to start reusing words.
Had the deck been shuffled, we would see 75% chance a word would repeat. But we are only seeing about a 10% chance. I’m keeping that stat updated each day at the top of the list. So the list is still very useful because the odds are the answer is not on the list. You just have to be ready to decide to use a repeat, though. (See Support > Tips & FAQs for more on this.)
The Wordle editor said she would be favoring new words for now, and the stats show that. Should we approach 50% repeat vs. new then the list has less use because it is a coin flip.

It certainly ends up being a big time waster, when they decide to reuse a word.
-
Boo! It certainly ends up being a big time waster, when they resort to previously used words.
-
Iβm sure itβs just a coincidence that the eagle chick that is hatching right now at Big Bear Valley will likely be named Sandy after the woman who started the FOBBV channel π£π¦

I think the people at Wordle are thumbing their collective noses at FiveForks. I got it in 6, but that was after spending a LONG time debating if they would use such a recent repeat. And they still haven’t used my started word, which is a common word!
-
I wondered this too Andrew.. but the reality is that this site is keeping us folk engaged long after many would’ve ditched Wordle (me included) and like you my starter ‘common word’ is not on the list
but its doing well for me, so it stays….-
Exactly this. NYT knows that list users are more engaged in the game (so more ad exposure!) I think that’s why they added a setting on WordleBot that says “play like a Five Forks List user.”
Well, it doesn’t say exactly that… π
-
-
-
Well, that was unfortunate. Iβm not happy about the recent repeat, but my first two guesses saved me. There was no other option, even though I didnβt want to believe it.

So fun, thank you fiveforks for providing this! I noticed the 2/2, 3/3, 4/4 connection also, and was excited to have a place to come talk about it! π

This After Party (named after theater / SNL after parties) was a fun idea. It’s a funny hidden spot in the Wordle World.
Thanks for joining in Jill! I’m now on the look out on 5/5 too!

Hi there – how do you do this format Jeb? I have attempted to copy paste my efforts – to no avail … π
-
Glenda,
I’ll do some testing on options, but here is what I do:
1. I play Wordle and record my guesses and “blocked” guesses in text. That’s my play log. I happen to record it in the Apple Notes app.
2. When I finish, I use the “share” button on the Wordle show stats window which is how I also share in a text to my sibs. But I paste that in Notes too.
3. I then copy and paste the ensemble into the Five Forks After Party post.
4. The squares do not look right when I do this… they don’t line up, and they have black borders, BUT when I post, it all looks normal. I have no idea.I’ll do some more testing. I had not thought my pasting “through” the Notes app might be helping.
What device, OS, browser are you using?

Thanks for the info – back to the drawing board with a bit more determination…
I play on my laptop – use google chrome – windows – android.
I see quite a few other folk on here have also uploaded their correctly formatted examples…

Glenda,
Please be careful about posting “today’s answer” only in “today’s after party”. You put the 4/5 answer in the 4/4 date. Many of us are playing in *your* yesterday! :-O
-
-
Glenda’s reply should be posted in today’s after party. I came to read Teelee’s post and ended up getting the answer to today’s puzzle.
-
You are right Jane and I missed that. I redacted it and replied to Glenda to be careful. She’s posting from New Zealand, so living in the future for the most of us. Now if she could give us some stock tips….

I solved it in 4 and guessed the correct word out of desperation even though I said, ” no way it could be that!” It was truly my only choice at that point.
-
Ditto for me!
-
-
Today, I thought of my coworker Sandy again. She passed away in late 2023, and she loved to play Wordle and we compared our results daily. Soooo, after my first guess I saw her name in the solution, then thought, nah, too recent, but then had no other choice and solved it in 3.
-
Well that’s a great Wordle story. A very nice toast to Sandy! π₯
-
That was lovely! All hail Sandy! For me it was between Sandy and shady for my second word. Didnβt pick Sandy because of #1226. Lucky to concede that it really was Sandy.
-
-
This is the most significant entry since Groundhog Day.
-
True!
-
-
“sandy” was the only option with my first 2 guesses: “arose” and “unity”, so they had to use it again.
I wonder if the other words that have been reused are also unique for particular guesses?-
No, that would be a logical fallacy of presupposition. The fact that your guesses happened to leave only one option doesnβt mean that it was due to that coincidence any more than if you got UNITY in 2 after choosing AROSE
-
Guessing correctly from more than one option is not the same as eliminating all but one option.
I stand by my comment.-
Charles, never mind – you are correct.

Iβm glad I had this place to come to in order to lick my wounds! I agree with everyone, but Iβm still going to keep playing and consulting the Five Forks list! Very interesting about the duplicate dates streak.
-
Became obvious by my third guess it was going to be a repeat, leaving SAUCY and SANDY on the table. Of course I went with the incorrect one first. π€¦π½ββοΈ

I have gone through the Shorter Oxford dictionary and have found 150 unused words and I’m just up to “crack”…. As I said someone isn’t trying hard enough!
-
I purposely didn’t enter SANDY as my third guess since it was #1226! And how is the non-word SANAD even a valid entry? This game is quickly losing its charm IMHO.

Ouch. I hate when that “can’t get the single missing letter” thing happens!
-
I call that a word trap!
-
An easy way to handle that is to think of the possible remaining letters and play a filtering word to eliminate as many of them as possible, then nail it on the next guess.
From FREAK to CAPOT, this player was obviously not on hard mode and had the opportunity to use this strategy -
I call it a rabbit hole.
-
I think this is the deepest;
?OUND
-
-
-
And bandy hasn’t been used either! Grrrr!!!
-
-
Although the solutions are typically common words, the available pool for entry is very large.
-
I thought the same about sandy. But I started with sonar so after trying for awhile to come up with something else I discovered there was no other option. Go figure. Btw I have started most of the past year with felon.
-
STEAL has been my opening line since shortly after LEARN was burned Love the nefarious words!
Tried LEAST for a while, though the ST digraph is more productive at the beginning rather than end of words.
-
-
I lost an over ten month streak because I refused to use candy, handy and sandy. Worse yet I had guesses of vandy, bandy, pandy, Randy, and handy that weβre all accepted as words. Wordle. Did me dirty yesterday. Its allure is now gone because they cheated me.
-
10 months! Gutted. I lost a 1 month streak as I was left with three used words for my final guess – SANDY, SAUCY and SASSY, having chosen only unused words until that point. I didnβt choose sandy as it was the most recently used of the three : (
-
To both Marc and Jim:
My streak was at 710. Now I am back to 2 as of 4/6. I didnβt use Sandy because it was 1226. I am very disappointed and sad. π.-
Carolyn,
SANDY was a shock being fairly recent as #1226 from year 4! There is about a 90% chance a word is new (*not* a repeat) on any given day, so the list still helps, but you have to be ready to use a repeat, perhaps regardless of age.
-
-
-
-
-
Duplicates on duplicate dates 2/2, 3/3, 4/4 streak is intact
-
Astute observation. Looking forward to 5/5!
-
That’s interesting – hadn’t made that connection
-
I noticed this too!
-
Interesting. Hadn’t noticed that trend either.
-
That means that a repeat would be coming on Cinco De Mayo.
Any Mexican or drinking words already been played?
-
-
Definitely a repeated word… I know there are more unused five letter words that could be put forward. I feel they are cheating us or getting lazy.
-
Lynnette: See the Support > FAQ that talks about why the “common” answer list is shorter than you would think. Something I learned!
-
Interesting… I rechecked the list of over a hundred and fifty words I made as far as “crack” and would say only five would rank as more obscure than “serif” recently used
-
-
Curious how they could be βcheatingβ us, when the rules are simply they put out a 5-letter word, and itβs our job to guess it within 6 turns? Now that repeat words are fair game, I donβt see the problem.
-
-
Well, Well – debunking all our theories with todays word! ‘early’ repeat of a far more recent word.
I was certain I had another 2 guess morning (no-3) Deliberate ‘unpredictability’ ploy methinks…. -
Ohhh darn there goes the first year theory π
-
I know! It was nice to be able to check the low numbers on the archive. Dang!
