Grid art: a boy finding a PENNY on the ground (alternatively, a boy URINating on the ground).

Is there anyone who isn’t aware of reptiles?
-
This looks like a perfect game, not sure what else you could guess there
-
Until today, I used to use PEONY instead of URINE in this situation, so I would have been upset if it ended up being PEONY!
-
That would have to be an added word so you’d be pretty unlucky. Urine is still waiting to be plucked from the og.

Seriously? BEZEL?! WTH was that about?? 🤦🏻♀️
If I had known it was Reptile Awareness Day, I would’ve started with COBRA. 🐍 Either way, I still wouldn’t have nabbed an 🦅.

Wordle 1,950 2/6
⬜⬜🟩⬜🟨 Lance
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 PennyWordleBot
Skill 56/99
Luck 87/99
I took 10 minutes to choose Lance as the first guess. Lance led to 4 NU words: Boney, Penny, Sinew, Tenet, plus Finer, a possible Repeat from ‘21. I thought it might be Tenet because it has 2Ts and 2 Es – the type of word that might appeal to Ms. Bennett – but only Penny would rule in/out each of the 4 words, so there was definitely some dumb luck involved. This took me another 45 minutes because I also looked at past answers to see how many begin with BO,PE, SI, and TE, and I checked Google for the frequency of occurrence in English for each of the 4 words. So after all my travail for a 2, how is it that WordleBot gave me 56/99 for Skill? As a former middle school educator, I would like to hand him a Detention Slip so we could have a long, tedious conversation after school about his choices and how he can do better next time!-
Hooray!

⬜⬜⬜⬜🟨 RAISE
⬜🟩⬜⬜⬜ BETEL
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 PENNYRAISE leaves 18 OG NUs, 45 ADDs, and 20 1YRs.
I only have the 18 OG NUs charted. I ignore all the rest. I did scribble down all the WB% though.
With that. Ignoring all the ADD and 1YR noise, BETEL is still the best filter even though it’s WB% is only 56%.
There are 10 words with an L and 9 words with EE. 5 words that start with B.
It only gives me a decision at COVEY 54%, HYMEN 54% and UNWED 58%. Guess which one I would pick!
BETEL left only PENNY (even though I only have one letter matched).
If it wasn’t PENNY, it would be an ADD or a 1YR.

A boy lays on the grass and juggles a soccer ball with his feet. He is pleased, because this is quite difficult to do from this position.-
Your BETEL beat my BEZEL for practicality.

Double Feature! The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926) German
– Inspired by The Arabian Nights, elements of this story are just in the culture and will feel familiar, especially to anyone who has seen Aladdin. Now 100 years old, this is the earliest surviving feature length animated film. Made entirely using cutout silhouettes for the characters and scenery, and with some background effects production I’m still trying to figure out.IMDB: 7.8/10
Letterboxd: 4/5
RottenTomatoes: 100%/90%
Mike S: A: 8, B: 7.5Highly recommended for fans of animation. The story is comfortably familiar, though at times laugh inspiring due to changing times. But the artistry and animation is captivating.
Note of interest: Lotte Reiniger, writer, artist, co-director (with her husband), was 27 when this film was released!
… … …Fantastic Planet (1973) French w/ Czechoslovakian animation
– Humanity (Om), or a sampling of it, has been taken from the ruins of earth and brought to a world of giant blue beings (Draags) where the Om are considered by most to be at best pets and at worst vermin. The society of wild and free Om quickly advances and comes into a conflict of parity with the Draag. A weirdly told tale that could have only come out of its time.IMDB: 7.6/10
Letterboxd: 4/5
RottenTomatoes: 91%/87%
Mike S: A: 7, B: 8A hesitant recommendation. But only hesitant because the pacing and art could place this at the precipice of being considered a stoner film for some. That said it’s filled with metaphor and is thought provoking on imperialism, subjugation, religion, and coexistence. And it did win a special award and was nominated for the Palme d’Or at Cannes.
If you’re curious what Yellow Submarine might have been without music, or you’re a fan of the art of Jim Woodring or the creations in the Codex Seraphinianus, … then you’ve likely already seen this movie anyway.

OSIER is an interesting follow to CLEAT with one E in the wrong position.

-
I like that visual!
News to me that osier is a word 😅 I had about 90 words to consider, and those five letters were the most common. Sometimes I just try what I think is a random combination, and it’s rejected as not in the word list. But, not always like today. 😄 I thought about trying rosie but wanted an er ending. After that I had 4, (femme, fudge, hedge, penny) and fudge guaranteed me a four. I looked up osier after I finished. 😂-
My situation was almost as bad. I had 83 words to consider.
Ignoring all the ADDs and 1YRs brought it down to a manageable 18 words.
I figure if I just concentrate on OG NUs, the ADDs and 1YRs will take care of themselves. Sometimes this results in a 4 (or 5!), but I’m willing to take that risk.
Quite often, I can rule out ALL the OG NU’s on guess 2; so, I still have a realistic shot at 3 when that happens.

Hojy,
I believe you said you work from memory so do not use Five Forks Wordle past answers lists. (Same as my 3 sibs.) How did stumble upon the After Party and what got you to join in?
I’ve always thought the After Party could “lead” the site in that anyone can join in however they play. But I would need to come up with a way to have more party rooms…

Only one real word left. And even that was British and obsolete.-
I am not aware of any reptiles so far today but there was a wee spider walking around the toilet floor. It didn’t look dangerous so I let it be.
With one step I could have destroyed it. So tiny but complete with respiratory digestive circulatory and reproductive systems. I am sure a reptile wouldn’t hesitate to destroy all that.I encourage lizards in the garden with piles of rocks, pottery bottles laying on their sides and no pesticides. No snakes so far although we are close to bushland.

Nice collection! 🦎🐍🐢🐊
My first awareness (memory) of a reptile was a large snake crossing the sidewalk in our neighborhood in Miami on an evening walk with my mom, dad, and little sis. (She was in a stroller.) I was 4.
-
When visiting my Aunt in Cairns I was immediately aware of a gecko on the outside of her house before I even went inside for the first time. 🦎
Sadly I was not so reptile aware during a middle of the night bathroom run in the dark, where I stepped on something that squished that turned out to be the tiniest of house geckos. 😪
There’s just so much life there!
-
-
Go you – an even better 2nd choice word !
-
The US still has penny(s) in circulation although they aren’t being made anymore. And we still say “A penny for your thoughts.” And “in for a penny, in for a pound” even though that refers to UK money. (Maybe “we” is only old people like me!)
-
Also, they haven’t been made from copper since 1982. It’s copper plated zinc. And as someone said, they stopped making those last year (at least in the US.)
-
On the flip side, I recall talk about discontinuing the paper 1 dollar bill and replacing that with a coin.
I don’t know where that stands.
-
1 billion $1 coins in storage.

In Australia (we do not call it OZ) our smallest note is $5. We have $2 and $1 coins but they are mostly used in shopping trolleys. Our smallest coin is 5c I hardly ever see one of these.
-
-
-
Great work! I looked up PENNY on Wikipedia and the illustration showed an Australian penny from. 1911 and a silver penny coin of Eric Bloodaxe (930 – 954).
Pennies (or pence nu) are still used in UK but almost obsolete. I believe US & Canada sometimes use(d) the word for a cent.
In the UK, when decimal currency came in (1971), some people would say “one new pence” – the plural was unfamiliar to them. Now a penny is usual called “one pee”!-
That’s funny SeanH!
Here in the US I use penny far often than cent. It’s the term I grew up with. Even though it says “one cent” on the coin.
I’m sure we got the word Penny from pence.-
Interesting to hear that you say penny more than cent. History lives!
Re pence/penny, my guess is that PENNY came first, then the plural PENNIES, which became PENCE as it was easier to say or how people actually pronounced the plural.
-
-
I would say that in the U.S. “penny” is more common than “cent” when you talk about the coin. We would collect pennies in a jar and cash them in for real money.
One of my 7 grand-dogs is named Penny. A girl across the street growing up was (is still) named Penny.

And the there was Penny, from Pee-Wee’s Playhouse.
She was claymation with pennies for eyes.
