When I have to scroll through a lot of previously used words I tend to lose patience and go with the first thing I can think of. Lucked out today.
… … … …October Movie Marathon
Friday: Double Feature …
(Was aiming for The Machines Rise,
ended up with …)
The OddballsMaximum Overdrive (1986)
– The earth is going to be in a comet’s tail for over week. So of course all the machines come alive and very inefficiently try to kill all humans … with particular focus on a truck stop gas station where the trucks mostly drive around in circles.IMDB: 5.4/10
Letterboxd: 2.5/5
RottenTomatoes: 14%/50%
Mike S: A: 5, B: 5.5Recommend? Meh. If you’re a Steven King completionist, sure. This is an oddball because it’s the only movie King directed. He made it at the height of his cocaine addiction. The poor decisionmaking is evident.
If you want a tense standoff with a truck, this ain’t it. Try Duel (1972) instead, written by Richard Matheson and the first feature movie Steven Spielberg’s directed.
… … …Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
– Something nefarious is happening in a small town that’s completely run by the owner of the town’s factory, … a Halloween mask manufacturer? … Wait, where’s Michael Myers?IMDB: 5.2/10
Letterboxd: 2.8/5
RottenTomatoes: 51%/31%
Mike S: A: 5.5, B: 6Recommend? Also kinda meh. It’s an interesting and unique idea, but not for this format. This is an oddball because it’s the only one in the series that does what John Carpenter wanted to do after the success of the first movie, turn it into an anthology franchise. And that’s why it falters. The story is better suited to an hour long Tales From the Crypt, or even Twilight Zone episode. In movie form the story drags too much.
If you like the weirdness of Tales From the Crypt stories and appreciate a good unsatisfying conclusion, you might like this little piece of Halloween candy.
-
Will skip these per your ratings. Though, I probably have seen all of the Halloween movies, the good or the bad or the even worse.
I might be somewhat alone in this, but I adored “Scary Stories to tell in the Dark” giving it a 10/10 though other IMDbers gave it 6.2 average.
And, sign me up for Creepshow, Tales from the Crypt, Twilight zone, Hammer horror shows. Many are really good and the ones that aren’t, well at least they’re short.
🐋Went to a real movie theater last night and saw Whalefall. Have you seen, yet? It seems like something you *might* like. 🤷🏻♀️ I gave it a 7/10 in my IMDb account (more like 6.5 but rounded up).
Looking forward to your next installment…
-
Thanks, Christine!
I haven’t seen Whalefall. It looks intriguing. I’ll have to keep my eyes open for it when it comes out to streaming or physical media.
We’ve been getting to the movie theater about once a month or so. I went out to the MST3K: RiffTrax Experiments riffing of The Sting of Death (1966) in September. Before that we saw Spider-Man, and before that The Odyssey.
My wife is hoping to see the new Sense & Sensibility in a theater, being a fan of Jane Austen. And a lot of our family is looking forward to Godzilla Minus Zero.
Not sure what else is on our radar. I’m a big fan of A Christmas Carol as an immensely retellable story. But, even though I’ve liked a lot of Johnny Depp ‘s work all the way up to Jack Sparrow, I’m not sure I’m motivated enough by the trailer to see his take on Scrooge in a theater.
It’s just so expensive to go to a theater. $50 for 2 people to see one movie is just too much. Their price structure is designed to make all their money when a blockbuster comes by. For now that lets them put up with the smaller movies only filling four or five seats a showing. … I’m cheap. I miss the dollar theaters. 😁
-
-
I started watching Plan 9 last night BTW.
Then, my wife wanted to watch a Netflix thing on Martin Scorsese.
-
Cool!
Can your heart handle the shocking truth … ! 😁
-
-
Great grid art again!

⬜⬜🟨🟨⬜ Cleat
⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜ Rosin
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 GaffeCleat, Rosin led to 2 NU words: Gaffe and Payee. I did a deep dive into what is presented as the “hidden expanded word list” at GitHub.com. Math is not my strong point, but I found that 152 words start with G of which 24 start with GA. For P: 208 words of which 39 start with PA. However, there have been 5 answers containing P so far this month and zero containing G. The last Wordle answer that began with G was Grill on 8/29/26. I have no idea if Miss Bennett and her team look at any of these variables, but I’m happy they led me to a 3. 🙂

wow – you did well 👍
I had A + E in correct positions & took 4….. (& could’ve been more) I was tempted to use PAYEE @ 3, as I was getting a double letter vibe, glad I didn’t….-
I could easily have gone with MANGE or PAYEE. Like you chose one of those with a G. Just happened to be the solve.
BAIZE served you well.
ABODE Is my standard after the yellow A as it seems positive.
Being so standardized now I miss the searching in my brain action.-
I search for words more spontaneously in Wordle archives. It still gives me the badges but a loss doesn’t affect my streak.
A bonus from coming late to Wordle.-
I took a hiatus from the game after losing my first streak. So there are several Archive games I haven’t played. Glad it doesn’t wreck the streak of you don’t solve the puzzle.
-

Amazing how well QUASI often comes up with the goods as a quirky starter word.
wd, as they say here!-
I do enjoy being QUASI.
Sometimes it is not as QUASI a start as I would have thought.
