Thought about playing scuba the other day

I thought it was going to be an A word. I was wrong, but I’m okay with that. 😊 I was really tempted to try SQUAB instead of SCUBA, since I have a backyard aviary full of doves 🕊️, but logic got the better of me…this time.

On the list of most the 10 most common letters in Wordle answers from most frequent to least frequent based on the original NYT List, the letter S is No. 8 out of 10 with E being the most frequent. Does anyone else think that S is over-represented lately? Looking at the list in FF from 9/1/26 through today, I counted 15 words containing the letter S and 17 words containing an E, making S the second most frequent letter so far this month; just wondering if this trend will continue. 🤔

As someone who has played a starter word with both letters I’d say that S has not been played that frequently for many months before 9/1.
It may be more common but perhaps there are several NU words with S that are piling up.
I don’t think S is over-represented or under-represented.
For me, it’s a tier 1 letter (by groups of 5).

S and I used to be behind O and T. Now, so many Os and Ts have been played that S and I have more remaining words.
The fact that S is being played a lot makes sense. The frequency chart is renormalizing back to E A R O T. However, the I words aren’t being played.
My question is where are all the words with “I” and “Y”?
For OG NU words, I have: LETTER – number of words (% of words in the remaining pool of 442 words).

Is this why the people playing AROSE keep solving in 2 and 3 rounds?
I have been invested in STEAL for so long I hate to convert to AROSE. But maybe I should?
Good thought, but why am I the only one playing RAISE.
Per my analysis, ARISE would be better than AROSE. Although, AROSE is still a very good start.
The other reason why people are playing it is because it hasn’t been played like STEAL.
They are both OG NU words.
I might switch to AROSE myself when the ADD rate surges over 50% even though that pool of words is larger. The letter frequency chart favors AROSE when you add in the pool of ADDs. When you add in 1YRs, it goes back to ROATE. I am projecting a decline in 1YRs though.

Weighted Bottles is solely based on the likelihoods from the regular Bot (without knowledge of past answers).
I would be interested to see a version based on K-Bot’s likelihoods, but the creators of WordleTools have previously expressed opposition to both bots and players consulting lists of previously used solutions. So, I doubt they will ever create one.

I believe that is a dynamic list, but they don’t update it all that often.
I am having conversations with Claude (and other AI) to figure out what the origin and meaning of the Weighted Bottle score is.
I find it inconclusive.
I just use it as a tie-breaker.

The other word the bot included in the two remaining possibilities was schwa. It’s been so long since I’ve heard or seen schwa I wouldn’t have remembered how to spell it. But, Jeb did!

You only need to drive across the border to Wisconsin. There are a ton of German restaurants there.
I’m lucky, because there are a lot of restaurants of all nationalities in the Chicago area. There are probably at least 6 good German restaurants.
The best is called Edelweiss.

We have several German restaurants in Minnesota—in Minneapolis and in several small towns across MN. I never go because none of those restaurants source their meat from humanely/sustainably raised animals. And, German restaurants are kinda meat-intensive. I get brats from local farmers… cut to Portlandia scene …
Yes! Oktoberfest in Munchen! I lived in a little cobble-stoned Bavarian village and every village/town had a brewery and a bierfest with oompah bands, etc. pretty much every week from Mai to Oktober there was a bierfest going on. So.much.fun!

My schwa goes back to 7th grade English teacher, Mrs. Flanders. She also taught us how to diagram sentences. If the class was bad, she would sit at her desk and write out her letter of resignation to the principal, reading it out loud as she wrote. That worked. One of the best.

Took me down memory lane… started scuba diving in CA in my 20’s. From Monterrey to San Diego, but mainly in Santa Barbara, Catalina Island, LA area. Did a fantastic trip to the Virgin Islands w friends. First time diving in HI was on my honeymoon. Then lived in HI from ’07-’10 and my twins were trained to the Advanced Diver level at 12yo. We did shore dives all over the Hawaiian islands including a manta ray night dive off the Big Island. FANTASTIC memories but funny that I’m actually done diving now. Literally all our gear is laid out in the basement deciding what to sell/give away. Swimming for exercise is where my heart is now.
That is a world I’ve never entered. Your trips sound amazing.

I normally would have gone with UNITY as my 2nd guess (I kind of locked onto unity before it was used and was too lazy to give it up) but I decided to follow Sean H’s suggestion yesterday (after I used unity as my 2nd guess and ended up needing 4) to play hard mode. As it turned out, UNITY would also have given it to me in 3 this time, and it would have taken less work! But it does make getting it in 2 impossible.
Well played. Your revised strategy worked better than mine (see earlier post, where I crashed to a desperate 5!). I tried all positions for the A before I twigged. I should have thought of it having very recently seen Simon Reeve deep-diving in the Sea of Cortes. You may not get his programmes over your side of the Pond but his approach to travelogues is quite refreshing. (And I see I have included at least 2 Brit spellings!)
