    1. Well, that is a pretty wild sudden guess of a double Y. I could see how you carved your own path there.

      1. I suppose I should not have expected it to be common!

        That said, though it wasn’t a possible answer, it was a good filter word. I usually don’t use filter words that aren’t possible answers, but there were way too many _A_ER words left, and I didn’t want to get trapped.

    2. I considered PYGMY as a filter for this one, but it gave me 50-50’s in the cases of EATER, HAREM, TAKER and TAMER.

      GIMPY or EMPTY gave me better odds while only giving me 50-50 on 2 words.

      Ultimately, I went with GIMPY (even though it repeated the “I” in RAISE).

      Going forward, I can play EMPTY with confidence with that pattern.

  3. A milestone was reached yesterday.

    80% of the original OG playable words have been played.

    Originally 2315 words. They removed 6 (but one slipped) through. So, really removed 5. Later on they removed 21 more words (if you examine the WB data).

    =====================================
    So, from 2288 words. Only 457 remain.

    In comparison, exactly 600 ADDs could be played.

    and 218 REPEATs <#237 remain*1

    =============================================
    Even though, ADD's are the largest group, the OG words are still the most likely to be played.

    =============================================
    *1 – Until they start repeating the REPEATs. If that happens, a lot people will stop playing NYT Wordle and looking for something else to do while they have a coffee and a scone.

    1. Which removed word slipped through?

      Also, as I think this was before I started playing, how do we know that those original 6 words were removed?

      1. FETUS on puzzle #324.1 5/9/22.

        There was another puzzle on the same day

        SHINE puzzle #324.2

        FETUS is now banned. (To which I say why? It’s a perfectly good word). Apparently, there was a vote on abortion going on at that time; so, NYT pulled it midstream.

        This is was just before NYT took full control over Wordle.

        =====================================
        The other 5 words were LYNCH, WENCH, PUPAL, SLAVE, FIBRE

        We know these have been removed. It’s well documented.
        =====================================
        I started playing on puzzle #367 on 6/21/22.

  4. It’s been so long since we had an S word, I thought we were due. Apparently not. Then was hoping for a 🐦‍⬛. Not yet. WAGERed on WAGER and saved my ante.

Dirge got it down to Gazer vs. Wager. Usage for Gazer is Rare and usage for Wager is Uncommon. The NYT WordleBot Average at 10:15 a. m. Central Daylight Time today is 4.6, so I’m grateful for a 4.

      1. No purple, you are correct. 🤲

        I usually do Wordle at a time of day when my phone is in dark mode. So at the time it the yellow do look a sort of muddy maroonish. So purple enough. Then I forget that it’s going to end up being yellow here.

        But also occasionally my imagination runs further afield than the image can sustain.

        Mainly I was trying to find something in there a little lighter than my first take which would have been ‘Sunrise on the Inferno’.

          And, a very funny and iconic Mike S grid art interpretation
          🦕🟪 which reminds me of the time ….

          We have a beautiful professional portrait of my three nieces from when they were very young. I found out later that the photographer got them to look so serious and wide-eyed by telling them Barney had died. 😳 Traumatized the kids but hey a gorgeous photo is all that matters, right? 🤦🏻‍♀️

          1. It was a different time. So the photographer may not have been able to easily show them a video. But there were lots of witnesses.

            Sadly, Barney was out of control. Even his closest group of supporters could barely restrain him. It was clear that it was only a matter of time until his unpredictable actions would result in injury to dozens if not hundreds of people, not to mention the potential property damage.

            In the end, it was his own posse that brought him down. For a brief moment it looked as if, in time, he might even be able to be rehabilitated. But the cops came in and violently finished him off.

    🟨🟩⬜⬜🟨 RAISE
    🟨⬜⬜⬜⬜ GIMPY
    🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 WAGER

    RAISE leaves 9 OG words.

    There is no clear filter in these words that would necessarily lead directly to the answer; so, I have to engineer a burner word.

    I do what I always do. I chart all possibilities. I count the number of letters in all 9 words.

    G-3, T-3, M-2, P-2, Y-2 are the leaders.

    I come up with EMPTY (LOL. As opposed to coming up empty!) and GIMPY even though it repeats the I.

    Both eliminate all but 2 words.

    EMPTY could give me a choice between GAZER and WAGER.

    GIMPY could give me a choice between
    EATER and TAKER.

    With the recent plays of REMIX and JOIST, I was thinking there may be a run on ZJXQ words. So, I suspect GAZER may be the answer.

    With this, I chose GIMPY.

    That didn’t lead to GAZER, but it did give me the G in WAGER.

    Lucky for me, because after EMPTY, I would have gone GAZER and not WAGER.

    That would have been a 4!

    Now, I can guess EMPTY and guarantee a 3 (except in the cases of ADDs or REPEATS).

      Nice to already have yer 2nd word picked out for next time.🙌🏻

      1. That’s the last step for me every day when I solve the puzzle. I evaluate whether the “2nd guess” word I have for that pattern is still valid.

        Depending on what words fall off the list, I might adjust my second word.

        Sadly, my second guess for this pattern is still a “burner” word rather than one of the words already on the list. So, I am ruling out a 2 when I do that, but it is worth the sacrifice if it will virtually guarantee a solve in 3.

        I also adjust my letter count (especially on patterns that have larger numbers possibilities). The worst for RAISE is an I in the wrong position. That still has 36 unplayed OG words possible.

    2. Your analyses always impress me.

      I just realized today that adieu is not among the OG word list. 😳 I thought it was common, so looked it up. It is not only not common in English speaking countries, not even in France, apparently.

      Final goodbye: It literally means “to God” (à Dieu). Native French speakers avoid using it for everyday goodbyes. It implies a permanent or very long separation, unlike the casual au revoir (goodbye).

      1. It is a high probability ADD as ADIEU has a 58% WB rating.

          🥸 Christine the Benevolent Slater in EZ Mode

          It would be awesome as an ADD to see so many get it in one

          1. I believe ADIEU is still the most popular start word, and NYT is aware of it.

            So, it wouldn’t shock me to see it played just for that reason.

            They may want to give a lot of people the “thrill” of getting it in ONE.

      2. ADIEU was my first and only daily start word. That only lasted until NYT took over. I still think it’s a decent start.

            I wish I knew! I lost all my stats from before NYT took over. And since I continued to play using the original powerlanguage link without refreshing for a couple months, and I had a different account before subscribing, I don’t have an accurate number from after they took over either. I realized on 2/15/22, that I was not playing the same version as my friends because our puzzles were different (I had AGORA, they had AROMA). According to my message thread with my Wordle friends, which we had started just the week before, I updated the NYT link the following day and expressed that I was pissed because I lost all my stats. (Apparently there was a way to recover them, but I didn’t know that at the time.) Then, after I subscribed, I lost my stats again. So, my records in NYT start on at #388 on 7/12/22, but I know I have been playing since at least November 2021 because I started a few weeks after Dad died that October.

          Exactly my question. So you were playing pre-NYT? Makes me wonder how many on here are in the same boat. 🛶

          1. I was playing for a little over a month before it switched to NYT.

            The first mention in my text records is me telling my family about it on January 2, 2022.

            I remember seeing an article about its popularity, maybe even in the NYT, though maybe The Guardian or somewhere else.

      1. Hi there! Avatar

        Love this take on your grid art!

    2. I also played HAREM and PAGER before the answer. There are still a lot of A/E possibilities out there!!

    3. Way to avoid disaster. There have been a few 6’s today!

      The drone swarm over an oil refinery works also (if you want to go for current events).
