Well, not quite as impressive as Kim S, but my usual starting word is paying off lately. What still annoys me, though, is that they’re doing repeats when there are still many common words left, like today’s!

Updated Letter Tiers.
In fives
———————
E R A S I – Tier 1O T L Y N – Tier 2
U C P D H – Tier 3
G M B K W – Tier 4
F V Z J X Q – Tier 5
Mathematically
E (183) – Tier 1R (172), A (169) – Tier 2 *These have swapped places a couple of times.
S (154), I (145) – Tier 3 *Moved ahead of O and T.
O (123), T (122), L (122), Y (119) – Tier 4 *Incredibly close!
N (108), U (100) – Tier 5 *Further evidence of the overrating of U.
C (87), P (78), D (74) – Tier 6 *C and D actually only fell one spot. P has risen (hence all the P and I words).
H(62), G(60), M(61) – Tier 7 * Also, incredibly close! H fell a couple spots.
B(52), K(45), W(41), F(40) – Tier 8 *F just fell behind W today after FENCE. It used to be ahead of K too.
V(27) – Tier 9 * A tier on to itself.
Z(8), J(7), X(4), Q(3) – Tier 10 * No recent changes. Originally was Z X Q J
===========================================
Notable PositionsS1(95) – most common starting letter. (%20 of all answers)
A2(73) – most common second letter. Interesting because of A3(43). They used to be almost even.
I2(56) is second behind A2(73)
I3(64) – most common third letter by far.
E4(74) – most common fourth letter by far.
Y5(106) – most common ending letter. (%22 of all answers.)

As a newbie here, I’m not remembering what you mean by “tiers” can you ‘splain ??? 🤩 It’s probably self-explanatory, but, self is not cooperating.
-
You’re not fooling anyone with that disguise and name change! 🤣😉
-
-
🤓 personally, i prefer to think of them as the tears of frequency.
i believe they have something to do with the richter scale and are inversely proportional to the wells of doom.hope that helps. 🤔😎
-
🤣😂🥲😢😭 the 5 tears of frequency
Why yes, that arrrrr a grate help … 🏴☠️😎
-

A tier is a convenient way to group the letters by frequency.
For example (Tier 4 letters)
O (123), T (122), L (122), Y (119)O exists in 123 remaining words
T exists in 122 remaining words
L exists in 122 remaining words
Y exists in 119 remaining wordsSo, if you were deciding whether to play one of these letters over the other, it (sort of) doesn’t matter because they exist in the same number of words (approximately).
Since T and L have the same number, they could be ranked interchangeably.
——————————————————————–
E(183) is in a tier by itself, because there’s a gap of 11 words before you get to R(172).R(172) is in the same tier as A(169), because the gap is only 2 words.
——————————————————————–
The non-mathematical tiers (groups of 5) are just a convenience for me to memorize the order of the letter frequency.ERASI – Eras, I
OLTYN – Only Like Things You Notice.
UCPDH – You Can Push Down Harry.
GMBKF – Give More Butt-Kicking Force.
WV – WaVe
ZJXQ – Zoltar Judges eXams QuicklyOf course, this is Zoltar from the movie Big.

Once the formulas are set up in the chart, then it just reads off the list of words.
Every day, when a word gets played, I fill in the puzzle number in the puzzle number column.
Then, when I resort the list by puzzle number, the played word from the 2315 list moves from the unplayed list to the played list.
The played list is on top and the unplayed list is on the bottom.
When the word moves out of the list, the number of words for those particular letters go down by 1 (and it in each position).
So, when PUPPY got played, the number of P words went down by 1, but P1, P3, P4 also went down by 1.
P1 means P in the first position
P3 means P in the third position
P4 means P in the fourth positionSo, since I was always keeping track of the played and unplayed words anyway, this is no extra work for me.
The tiers list is simply the sum totals of the letters in each position sorted in a list from most to least.
Then I just eyeball compare the totals to see if any of the letters need to be moved up or down.
For example, when I posted this, W moved ahead of F for a day when FENCE was played. Then, WIMPY was played and they moved back to a tie, because W went down by 1. LOL.
-
-
🙋♂️i’m puzzled by the fact that your lists are being manipulated by a resort (🧐 unlikely a five star)…and, does your unplayed list have a clue it’s being played? definitely may not appreciate it. just sayin’.
🤔 that may explain all the tears.

ADD rate is %32.4 (1 every 3 days on average)
===========================================
If every REPEAT and ADD were both 1 every 10 days since CIGAR.We are 1 REPEAT ahead of the pace.
We are 4 ADDs behind the pace.
It might explain the increase of ADDs and the slight decrease on REPEATs.

JONES
FENCEI had planned to use KOLEA as my starter wird in celebration of friends who just completing sailing their 39’ boat named “Kolea” from Mexico to Hawaii and then to Oregon, but Wordle does not accept kolea as a word! So unfair!! Heron, eagle, and snipe have all been solutions and kolea is in the MW dictionary. And aloha was also just a solution! Time for a letter to the editor!!
PS I used JONES instead, in honor of my sister’s 400 lb pet pig, who died yesterday. They had to take down a FENCE so the large animal removal service could get to him, so an “easy” 2/6 😢
-
Interesting. Wardle didn’t capture it in his original list of playable words.

🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 FenceI got it down to Dunce, Fence, or Pence. I saw that Dunce is a possible answer, but due to the negative connotation, I doubt that Ms. Bennett would use it. Using the “letter frequency by position chart” based on the original NYT list there were more answers starting with F as compared to P. The chart is at: real-statistics.com
I still don’t understand exactly how y’all see pictures in the green and yellow squares, but maybe I see yellow butterflies in the park.-
The Weighted Bottle score for DUNCE is 57.07%; so, per Wordle Bot, it’s a certain play and still on the 2315 list.
That doesn’t mean to say that whomever is overseeing the Bot list is TB and that she wouldn’t override that person.
I would say if she excludes a word like that, she’s gone a little too far with the word exclusions IMHO.
============================================
Per the original word frequency list.P is in 367 words, F is in 230 words.
So, P was more frequent than F from day 1.
P1 is in 142 words, F1 is in 136 words.
So, more words start with P than F (also from day 1).
=========================================
In the words that are unplayed (from 2315) (updated on 8/9/26)
P is in 79 words. F is in 41 words.
P1 is in 29 words. F1 is in 31 words.
So, in the words remaining “F” has a slight edge in the first position, but it’s only slight.
You wouldn’t have found that on that word frequency chart.
===========================================
I’m more interested in comparing C (88), P (79), and D (74) words since they are all adjacent in the same tier. They didn’t start out that way.===========================================
Yellow butterflies is fine interpretation of your grid art. -
Nice!
Where can I find that chart?
-
https://real-statistics.com/wordle-strategy/wordle-letter-frequency-and-patterns/
This is the original list based on the 2315 word list.
The list I have only exists in my spreadsheet with Excel formulae. This is a dynamic list that updates daily.
BTW, there is an error in the original list. It counts the number of letters in their respective positions correctly, but then it sums them up together to get the totals. That is incorrect! This counts words like PUPPY, 3 times for P. I correct this in my spreadsheet.

Nice.
According to wordgamesbot analysis, PINEY was technically a better guess, but would have left me far more options today. I did think of it, but wanted to get CH out of the way before Y since we just had a terminal Y.
Basically a perfect game since it says PUNCH was the next best guess by +0.046 guesses (lol) unless you could somehow think of PINCE or PUNCE as the top 2 guesses (not on the real list.)-
That’s interesting because PINEY is a PI word.
I agree with your analysis though.

I would have play PENCE too (in your context) for the “P”.
The only reason I play FENCE is because FEMME and FUDGE are still unplayed. FENCE leads me to both in 3.
Now, I have to shift to “DUNCE” which will work for every word except MELEE and TEPEE.
-
I’ve got to up my game if I’m going to meet my goal. I need to study what JD does… 🧐 ✨
-
If I really wanted to improve my results, I think I would try to emulate what Kim S does. The result speaks for itself.
For me, I have a method that works but takes a lot of work to get there. It’s all based on mathematics and probability.
This is why I say that people shouldn’t do what I do.
I’m way more into the analysis than the game.
-
✨ I would rather study the analysis than the game too. Do you have a place online, a blog, youtube, forum, or other where you post your daily comments other than at FF? Having your posts all in one place would be much nicer than searching through 100s of past After Parties for JD posts. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if you go <3.0 for August! Woot! ✨

Did you use Five Forks Filter to narrow down your guess?
-
Jeb,
No, I wasn’t even aware of the filter (I’m notoriously unobservant, but I see it now). I use wordsrated.com to get the list of possible words based on my guesses. Then I use the main list in FF to eliminate the ones that have already been used (or sometimes look for those that were used early on). Then I use letter frequency and placement to pick a guess that, if wrong, will eliminate the most words in the list of possibles. I have not tried to work out a strategy for pu’s so they mess me up.
Yes, it came down to fence and pence.-
You play 4D Wordle! 😉

It’s not too dissimilar to the way I play.
