A better way to handle the word list is to reshuffle, possibly including a few new words. Once the NYT gets to about 1/2 of the list remaining, they just declare that they are resetting, but they don’t repeat. Personally, I don’t mind repeats, but I’m a math nerd, so I just incorporate that risk into my plan of attack.
-
Somebody tell NYT that repeat words SUCK. They SUCK They SUCK!!!
I was going to subscribe to the NYT for other games, but now all they get is the middle finger.
There are plenty of unused words, this ruins the game. Use them all up, then start over completely.
-
The way the game is designed (and why it has been so popular) is the use of (fairly) common words without plural (s) or past tense (ed) is a shorter list than you would think. Only about 5 years worth. They ran out.
I think they should just reshuffle the deck every X years and let everyone know that.
Meanwhile, Five Forks Wordle has had more conversation ever since the use of repeats started.
-
Many of us are here because we hate the repeats (which are boring). We have various opinions on how it should be fixed, though.
Your idea is interesting—that could be a fun option I had never considered. In the last few months of this option, there will be a lot more 1s and 2s. And, on the last day everyone would get a 1. ⛳️
-
Everyone who references the list of possible solutions would likely perform much better as the list winds down. Not everyone tracks that list though.
But there should still be a general average improvement for anyone tracking previously played words as the pool of more commonly used words diminishes.
I’m not sure what method of word recycling I’m in favor of.
I assume the NYT wouldn’t want to announce a complete ‘restart’ of the list. That could just provide a date for people to stop playing, as it could be seen as playing the same game all over again.
And what’s being done isn’t entirely predictable, as the repeats haven’t just been 1st year and we’ve now seen back to back repeats, not to mention the ADDs. So there’s no easy system of ‘solving’ the game.
This may be the best version of word recycling we could hope for, as frustrating as that may be for us previously played words followers.
-
What about if at the end, they announced they’re starting all over with a new set of words? It could be the entire list that wordle bot uses? 🤷♀️

===================
FEIGN – I word
GRIPE – I word / P word
POSIT – I word / P word
MOTIF – I word
REPLY – P word
PENAL – P word
SLUSH – double letter
PURSE – P word
FLUME – neither
VALVE – double letter
SONAR – neither
POSER – P word
GRAPE – P word
ALOHA – double letter
PUTTY – P word / double letter============================
I suspect the run on double letters is over (for now), but the run on I’s is new and the run on P’s is still pretty strong. Also, for the P words, a lot of them start with P.
So, if you want to start with something with a P and I in it.
Maybe something like PRICY, because they’re holding back the words ending in Y (for some unknown reason.) Y?

Jeb has it right.
Interesting story on the coal mine fire, Jeb.
As for tire fires, I found that the longest running tire fire was in Heyope, Wales. It was suspected of being started by arson, or at least claimed to have been possibly for political reasons. That fire continued to smolder for more than 15 years deep in the inaccessible heart of a dump of over 10 million tires.

still don’t know ’bout a trifecta just yet, though. suspect this to have been a less than subtle warning shot across the bow to remind us who is running the show and that predictability is not so predictable.

⬜⬜🟩⬜🟨 RAISE
🟨⬜🟩🟨🟨 EYING
⬜🟩🟩🟩🟩 DEIGN
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 FEIGNI tried to warn you guys this would happen, but you didn’t believe me.
Enough said….
RAISE boiled it down to 4 words.
DEIGN, EKING, EVICT, EYING.
At this point, I even mapped out the possible first year REPEATS
BEING(332), FEIGN(19), QUIET(16)
I needed to rule out the E_ING words.
I decided on EYING due the Y vs the K
————————————————————
EYING left only DEIGN on the unplayed list. Also why I wanted to play ING.DEIGN left only FEIGN(19)

I said the same thing just last week! I suspected she would do a back-to-back ♻️ soon after that long period without one. Still, I didn’t expect it today. 🤦🏻♀️
-
What is your take on -ING words being 1) a solution? 2) ADDs or OG?
-
Interesting thought.
First, you have to examine the “ING” words that have already been played. They are..
LYING (93), FLING (128), BRING (164), USING (180), BEING (332), CLING (417), STING (471), AGING (927), DOING (939), THING (944), GOING (1249), VYING (1272), ICING (1312), SWING (1639), SLING (1844)
Many of them are active verbs (which are the ones you’d think they would exclude.) LYING, USING, DOING, GOING, VYING come to mind. Others are either nouns are multiple parts of speech. You would expect those to be playable.
Unplayed words from the 2315 list include these words.
DYING (%58), OWING (%58), TYING (%58), EKING (%58), EYING (%57), SUING (%58), APING (%57), WRING (%58)
The ( ) are the Weighted Bottle scores; so, they will probably be played at some point.
=========================================
Then there are the likely ADD’sBOING (%52), AXING (%55), ACING (%55), CUING (%56), RUING (%56), BLING (%58)
Surprisingly, there are not that many.
=========================================
Words left out.CHING, CUING, DUING, HOING, HYING, NYING, OHING, OPING, PIING, PLING, TOING, EHING, EXING, ACING, AHING, AKING, AWING, AXING, KAING, IRING, ERING, RUING
All are playable, but not likely to be answers.
-
Thanks JD. Superb analysis once again. The gerunds were the ones I was curious about.
-
I just realized that CUING is listed twice. That would be an ADD (rather than one that would be left out).

So that’s an emoji add to the comment name. The avatar (aka Gravatar) is the “robohash” that is uniquely designed automatically for you, but that you can customize at gravatar.com. It is based on your email.
I’m going to write up a how-to on it. I just learned how the robohash.org default works and why it is unique to you. Clever.

Cool! I asked you about how to do that on the general feedback a month or so ago, but you didn’t respond. 😉

This sounds more fascinating to me than how to add a Gravatar – Id love to know as I have observed the different colours & styles of each new person to this site & marveled that such a seemingly simple symbol can have so many variations….. I rather like mine
