2 eagles in a row. Yay!

Curse and Nurse were both used fairly recently.

Are chomp and spied even solve words?

    1. CHOMP is not on the 2315 list, but it is a likely ADD with a WB score of %57.03.

SPIED is an unplayed 2315 which is even more likely to be an answer (even though it is a past tense ED word.) It’s WB score is %58.

%58 might as well be %100 the way they do it.

They were accepted, so they must be. Nice thing about Wordle is that there’s no penalty for trying a word not in the dictionary; it just isn’t accepted, so it’s always worth a try.

Has anyone ever figured out which dictionary they’re using?

      1. I think for all “playable” words (which means they are either in the 2315 or 10657 word list), they initially came from the OED (Oxford English Dictionary).

I think this because I haven’t come across a word yet that isn’t in that dictionary, because they list words that aren’t even in use anymore (centuries old) and they list all words used in all English speaking countries.

Also, Josh Wardle was from Wales. So, that’s why words like FIBRE were in the original answer set.

  5. PURSE was my first choice to start, but I passed on it since we had a U word yesterday. If I had stuck to my new strategy I would have had another Wordle in 1. Nonetheless, a start word was still crossed off my list.

      1. I figured you had to be below 3.0 on your AVG.

        9 X 2’s is tremendous! I don’t even sniff those totals.

        The 1 neutralized your 5.

        2 more 2’s than 4’s put you under 3.

        You’re awesome at this game!

Thank you! Honestly, I owe a lot of it to After Party. Before I saw all of the analytics so many others– especially you–used to solve, I didn’t put anywhere near as much thought into my games. I remember seeing how many 2s and 3s you had and was like, “How the hell is he so consistent?” Now I get it and I think I’ve just about found my groove.
June was actually a tad better on my average, but I hadn’t yet started my spreadsheet. Just entered everything and here they are.

Tracy must like me. We might even be the same age. I wont share that with my wife. LOL.

    RAISE leaves only PURSE.

I would have gotten 2 with ROATE even though that left 6 words, because that was my 2nd guess word (picked in advance).

I haven’t charted it, but I would have done much better this month with ROATE.

But, I’m not going change strategies.

July was a good month with RAISE anyway. I improved my average 0.1 guess for the second month in a row.

    0-5-20-6-0-0 (3.03). July

    0-4-18-8-0-0 (3.13). June

    0-5-16-8-2-0 (3.23). May

If it weren’t for LOSER (on POSER day), I would have had a 3.00

JD I copied and pasted your monthly average formulas into gemini who made a google sheet for me. It must have done it wrong.

My July average is showing as 3.0 on 7/31.

With the scores below, that doesn’t sound right. Back to the drawing board to set up the spreadsheet. I just noticed my spreadsheet uses 30 days as a month. Gemini flunked this test. 👎

      July scores
      2s: 5

        1. Your math is correct. I just did it by hand.

You know it has to be over 3, because you have more 4’s than 2’s and then the 5.

    Mornin’ 😊

🟨⬜⬜⬜⬜ SLANT (Aw, JD – at least it gave me the S)
🟩🟩🟨⬜⬜ PUSHY (from yesterday – not many PU— words)
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 no need to —– my lips over this puzzle now

3.6 monthly average. Aw, well – could’ve been worse right!

    1. It’s a pretty good start word. PUSHY is a good follow up too. (Although, I might have sought out an “E” word which wouldn’t have helped today).

      At least you didn’t get a 4!

3.6 isn’t bad. I suspect that will improve next month.

      1. Glenda M Avatar
        Glenda M

I tracked the results if I had used SLANT as a start word thru July
        3 – 4
        2 – 13
        1 – 10
        0 – 4
I will continue with my random start word for now, as I haven’t got it in 1 since Jan (cruel) one of my find the vowels starter-pairs

    2. I came up with a good follow up to SLANT if you don’t match any letters.

PRICY (it would be an ADD which has a WB score of %54; so, it has a high probability of being an answer).

If you really want the “E” CREPY works, but it’s not going to be the answer. Also, CYDER or DECRY (1288).

      CURDY for “U”.

If you match the T in the right position, CRYPT(1264) but that’s been played and it’s not a first year REPEAT.

      1. Glenda M Avatar
        Glenda M

Thanks JD, I’ve added DECRY & PRICY (which I’d thought was PRICEY – either/or apparently) to my single-vowel word list 👍

        1. You’re welcome

I thought about it and CRYPT is a bad play. If T is already in the last position, there’s no sense in playing the Y.

You’d be better off with CREPT. I’m not at my computer; so, I don’t know the status of CREPT. At least there’s an E in it.
