Is there a way for Big Al to send me a message without posting it here via you? (without me posting my email on this public forum).
I think your email address is not visible to others.
The site does not offer a method of direct contact and emails are treated as personal information. I have thought about adding “side rooms” for miscellaneous discussion topics.
There is a long line of people trying to get to Big Al. 😉
I could relay information but I’m not sure I should do that. I’m like the Five Forks Bar Tender. I see nothing… I hear nothing…
OK. He will just have to post his feedback by posting.
A side room for this topic (“Words that NYT should play” or similar) is not a bad idea.
Woot!
After my first 1-2 guesses I use the Wordle Solver Answer Tool to narrow down the possible answers. Incidentally, last year someone on Reddit said using the Answer Tool is cheating. I don’t agree. Before discovering the Answer Tool I was reading through the NYT list of possible Wordle answers which is public, seeing what words could work with my green and yellow squares. I see the Tool as a timesaver similar to a calculator. I have noticed that some ADDs, like today’s answer -Shill – are on the Wordle Answer Tool’s list of possible words. Does this mean that the Wordle Answer Tool Site has access to the expanded Wordle Answer List? The site is linked below:
https://tryhardguides.com/wordle-solver/
I think most of these people who write the apps all started from the same answer list (2315) and available guess list (10657) which was extracted from the original code back when Wordle was sold to NYT by Josh Wardle.
Some of these guys have also been able to extract some words from the Wordle Bot tool which is also presumably maintained by NYT.
I see the word list for “Wordle Solver” is 2338 which is 29 more than 2309. 44 words have been “added” thus far. So, there are 15 words not being accounted for from their perspective. I find that intriguing.
A lot of these word lists are available on GitHub. This is probably a primary resource for programmers who are creating Wordle apps.
===========================================
I tend to agree with you (obviously) that this isn’t cheating.
To me, cheating is knowing the answer before it gets played. Unless, we are peering into the code, no one knows that.
If you know the answer, you get it in ONE and then you would probably stop playing, because it’s no fun.
This isn’t the Lotto, Mega Millions or Powerball where knowing the answer ahead of time makes you rich. (Incidentally, the NJ mafia fixed the state lotto once by doctoring the ping pong balls. Great story.)
Josh Wardle, his partner, Tracy Bennett were / are all trying to create a list of common 5 letter words that most people know and aren’t impossible to guess in 6 guesses.
Given enough time, any of us could have come up with this list on our own. (Although, a lot of us wouldn’t have had PSHAW, LORIS and KNELL on it! LOL)
Good job & thanks for the link. I’ve been using a spreadsheet I created to filter letters but it’s based on the OG word list. I was *sure* the answer was SHIRT then I was *positive* it had to be SHINY.
SHILL was not on my list but my husband made a good guess.
Going to try your Wordle Helper tomorrow.

JD if you’re reading this, I’m working on a full response to your suggestion list. Would a comment be the best way to post it or is there a somewhat more convenient way?
Hi Al,
Thanks for taking the time review the list.
A comment will do just fine unless Jeb can relay it to me without you having to post.
Regards,
JD
Nice solve!!
cool!
Per my discussion with Jeb. There currently isn’t a way for a secure message; so, you’ll have to post your feedback on the site.
I think what I would do is post your feedback on the day (if you can find it) that I posted the list.
Then, post something on the current day telling me that you’ve posted something on the day I posted the word list. Then, I’ll know to look for it on that day.
Jeb had the idea of creating side rooms. I think this would make sense for these types of discussions.
This way others (who possibly don’t care) don’t have to scroll through all of this discussion in the After Party.

With repeat odds medium I was tempted to use the very early PU word SWIRL. Between the other 2 words I considered SHILL was a better filter than SCULL, and happened to be the answer!
Congratulations!
2 guesses with a symmetrical pattern!
Woot! 🦅
After SHINY, I knew we had an add. So, I went to the old After Party pages to search one of JD’s recent lists of potential adds. I chose July 17 to start with, and scrolled down to find an SHI__ word. That’s where I saw SHILL. Thank you, JD!

STEAL left 9 possible, but 8 were used. I believe this is an add.
Great! Yes, SHILL is an ADD.
SCULL has not been used either. Is that not a possibility?
Also strange that were used the same starting word and the Wordle Bot told me 10 remained, but you only got 9.
SCULL has a weighted bottle rating of %54 on Wordle Tools. %58 is a certain add. I don’t know where they came up with “%58”.
So, yes, SCULL looks like it will be an ADD some day.
I considered SHILY, but that one isn’t even listed on weighted bottles; so, I don’t think that one will be an ADD.
https://wordletools.azurewebsites.net/weightedbottles?SortOrder=ByWeight&submit=Submit
Sounds like the Wordle Bot app has a bug. I am not surprised.
Thanks for the info, JD
I don’t use Wordle Bot (no subscription), I use https://word.tips/wordle/ Not sure how they deal with added words.
I don’t have a subscription, but I discovered with Safari Mac / iPhone that I can choose “hide distracting items” and it will hide the pieces that cover up the link to the analysis. I like to get the words left counts. It’s a little hit and miss, but I’ve gotten good at it. I don’t know if Android has similar.
2 guesses with a symmetrical pattern as well!
Good one! 🦅
Wordle 1,858 4/6
⬜⬜🟩🟨⬜ RAISE
🟩🟨🟩⬜⬜ SLINK
🟩⬜🟩🟩⬜ SPILT
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 SHILL (ADD)
RAISE left 9 words on my list.
Now that SLING has been played, SLINK became the optimal guess.
Barring ADDs and REPEATS, it should have given me a 3 in all words except SCION and SNIFF.
SLINK leaves only SPILT as a possibility.
SPILT was not the answer.
This means it’s an ADD (SHILL, SHILY) or a REPEAT (SWILL).
The current odds on a REPEAT are %11 (once every 9 days)
The current odds on an ADD are %20 (once every 5 days)
SHILL is also a good intersection guess between SHILY and SWILL.

Should have gone with SHILL since it was in my head first after the second guess.
I would say, “always go with what’s in your head,” but I won’t since it hasn’t always worked for me. 🤷🏻♀️ Instead, just enjoy the beautiful sunrise. 🌅
Yeah, I knew I thought of SHILL first. But I didn’t stop and give my brain enough time to realize that both that and SHINY were equally good guesses.
Interestingly, SHILL does possess the double LL in case we’re back to those words again.
It wouldn’t shock me if it’s a double letter word tomorrow.
Wordle 1,858 4/6
🟩🟨⬜⬜⬜ Slate
⬜⬜⬜🟨⬜ Orcin
🟩🟨🟨⬜⬜ Silky
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 Shill
Slate, Orcin, led to 2 words not on the PUL: Shill or Silky. The letter by position score for Silky was just a few points higher than the score for Shill. Frequency of use for Shill: 0.3 per million; for Silky: 4.4 per million. I thought possibly Ms. Bennett would make it easier for us by going with Silky: nope, but I’m glad to get it in 4.
I don’t think TB likes making it easy for us. But I do believe she likes making it interesting.
It looks like she is committed to more ADDs even if her pace on REPEATs has not diminished at all (1 in 9 for REPEATS and now 1 in 5 for ADDs)
So, I think she is hearing feedback from someone. I would like to think it is us, but I doubt it.
God is probably like that, too. 😉
Still no Best the Bot badge today even though I beat it. Here’s what Gemini reported. So many catches!
The New York Times is officially performing a gradual soft launch of the “Beat the Bot” badge.
Because it is rolling out in phases, the feature is active on some accounts while being completely hidden on others, even if you are fully updated, paid, and playing identical games.
If you beat the bot today but the badge didn’t trigger, your account simply hasn’t been selected for the server-side rollout yet.
There are two hidden quirks that might block the badge even after the feature arrives on your account:
1. The “Past Solutions” Discrepancy
If you have the “Use knowledge of past solutions” setting toggled on in your Wordle settings, the Wordle Bot alters its path during post-game analysis. It assumes you know what words have won in previous years, which changes its calculated guess count.
• The Catch: The “Beat the Bot” badge only measures your score against the standard, default bot path.
• If you used 3 guesses and the analysis screen says the “past solutions” bot took 4 guesses, you think you won. However, if the standard bot took 3 guesses, the badge will not trigger.
2. Standard Mode vs. Hard Mode
The bot calculates its steps differently based on your game settings. If you have Hard Mode toggled on, ensure your settings are locked before you make your first guess. Accidentally switching modes or playing under different criteria can nullify the badge verification at the end of the puzzle.
Thanks for doing the legwork. I guess I am another subscriber that wasn’t chosen for the rollout. I wonder if, when it is rolled out to everyone, it will be retroactive.
It was not retroactive for me but maybe it will be back to the soft start date.
I do get the badge when I beat the bot when I am playing in the archive

It doesn’t let me keep going. I just do that by hand in fun. I started doing it with my brothers and sister.
I didn’t notice I repeated swill ! Joke fail!
Would love to see the words you used.
The thought of a miss makes me nauseated and anxious, but I know I put far too much weight on it. I have never had a miss and only once forgot to play resulting in my streak resetting. As of today I’m at 1089 streak with 1621 played.
see above
So you’re undefeated! That’s great.
My streak ended last flying over the International Date Line going west to Japan.
Another time it ended when I forgot to play also.
Also, I do have one loss.
Losing does take off the pressure of being undefeated.
I was undefeated in my first 30 games of Words With Friends. Once I finally lost, the pressure was off. So, I don’t care so much about losing a few games here and there.
So, you could take one for team Kim S for your mental health! LOL.
re: “forgot to play also”
I change my computer / phone date-time to back up. Wordle honors whatever the device is set to!
Can this be done years later?
I don’t know how long you can go back. I’ve done it several times, but usually only for yesterday if I forget to play before midnight.
@Kim- I understand not wanting to lose the streak. You worked hard to preserve it!
I used to play Connections daily as well and the first time I lost my streak I was really angry because it was an answer I would never have known. I didn’t play for months. Then I decided with that game I had to look at it differently than Wordle. Play it for fun- not for winning every time.
I’m glad we have our own FF community here.
Hi Kim
I wonder if you could try Jeb’s method of changing time and date even though it is years later. Might be risky though.

🤔maybe its a more common-use word than for us ‘downunder’ ….
or maybe they paid more attention to JDs add list ?!
I too was suspecting that it was more common in America.
Maybe downunder we are not so used to devious selling techniques.

I was surprised by my 2, but the lucky starter + Five Forks filter really helped.
SCALP gave me the S and L and eliminated the CAP. Using the Five Forks Filter:
Include: S??L? and exclude: CAP it helped narrow down the available answers. Fortunately I started down the S?IL? path first.
