I’ve been waiting for puppy to be used for a long time. So much so that I’ve discussed it with my brother many times. I had forgotten to play yesterday, fortunately my brother texted late in the day that this was not a puzzle to be missed.
I had to play in a hurry as the puzzle was about to end for the day.
Had I thought about his text a little more I may have realized the relevance of it and simply tried puppy on my first attempt.
Oh well, I’ll take the 3.

after two rounds w nuttin’ but gray i used the ffdf 👍 to list the pu’s remaining. with 26 unplayed choices, and influenced by the time of year (here in the northern hemisphere 😉) i went with a focus on metamorphosis…of course that word ultimately did morph in to a cute little dog. arrrff arrrff

This is still so annoying to me. The NYT Games app—which is what I use for all my daily puzzles—just had a major update, followed by a minor one, yet they still didn’t update the WordleBot 🤖. WTH?! Its start word is still LEAST and the skill and luck percentages are different. I have sent them a couple messages about this, but apparently they don’t seem to think my opinion is that important. The nerve! 😉

I’ll have to do some more searching.
I just figured out how to use Conditional Formatting to highlight the word according to the rule. Now, I only need to search for the highlighted cells.

Probably should be an asterisk next to this one as Glenda’s comment yesterday helped me (unknowingly).
If anyone else read it, they may have been clued in too.
RAISE narrows it down to 36 words. (ROATE would narrow it down to 66)
PUDGY narrows it down to PUPPY and PUTTY.
Since I just posted all words with 3 of the same letter yesterday, this was an omen of sorts. Glenda said she’ll be watching today’s play with interest.
Now I know why.
It was a 50-50 anyway. So, maybe I would have guessed right anyway.
I also mentioned that P almost caught up with C. This will push P down 3 slots.
I think I need to change the formula on that letter count so it counts the number of words rather than the number of letters.

HTML auto collapses spaces. To force spaces you have to use a “non breaking space” code for every space you want -> nbsp;.
Often easier to just use / or | character.

My first 2 guesses used the 10 most common letters in Wordle answers based on the original NYT list. Seeing the “Sea of Gray” was intimidating, but this led to just 4 words not on the PUL: Dumpy, Muddy, Pudgy, Puppy. The letter by position score was highest for Pudgy and it could rule in/out the others. Since 6/23/26, answers have included: Curry, Queer, Scoop, Emcee, Puppy. Perhaps more words with repeated letters will be coming soon. 🙂

Another obelisk of doom U today! I was able to work my way out of it with my non-patented open source method : “Walking the dog.” Beginning with ROVER and including DINGO, BUDDY, BOXER, and FRITZ (childhood pet GSD name) dog words have been solutions in traps. With Always a P added, it was obvious.

Crazy how many Seas of Green we’re getting today. Especially 5 & 6 rows deep!
Probably because on 3 letters are in the puzzle and they are tier 2/3 letters. (not in the top 8 or 10 (depending on how you rank the letters). So, that results in a lot of blanks.
U is most common in position 2.
Y is most common in position 5.
P is most common in position 1 (but with this word it’s a %60 chance of green anyway with straight odds)

Bear with me on this long post, but today’s solve was special! Went with normal first 2 words in this situation. The FF filter revealed 14 PU. I thought of 13 additional Not PU words (makes 27 of the bot-revealed possible 35).
I looked at the list, and rather than going with the best filter I chose the correct answer. Why? Because this Friday I am taking a short road trip to pick up a new PUPPY from a breeder… I HAD to choose this word!
His name will have 5 letters – EDDIE.
Side note: since I don’t use hints or anagram solvers, does anyone know if any of my remaining 12 words is an unlikely guess (or not on “the list)”:
