I always love a surprise 3 solve, especially when prepared for a miss! It was the only semi-reasonable word I could think of and certain I was missing something! I’ll take it all day long…Hopefully nobly!

    1. Is that 3 in a row? Wow!

      How do you do it?

      1. Kim S Avatar

        I got a 3 on the 2nd. But, the 1st, 3rd, and 4th were 2s.

I start by looking at the last couple weeks of answers to get an idea of the trends and a feel for what I think is due as far as letters. Next I go to my list of about 90 unused start words and just go with my gut. After that, I go to my 2315 list where I have already removed all the PUs. I’m lucky to have a really sharp eye for scanning and spotting specific details, so I look for the words that have the letters where I want them. It only really works for greens, so if all I have are yellows, it doesn’t work as well.

        1. Fascinating! Thank you.

        2. Amy B Avatar

Wow – great job. You put much more thought into this than I do. Well done.

          1. Kim S Avatar

Ever since I retired, my main β€œjob” is doing puzzles of all kinds, and my goal is to do them as efficiently as possible. I have ample time on my hands to make each one an epic experience. My biggest hurdle is analysis paralysis. If you haven’t already noticed, I have a tendency to overthink things. πŸ˜πŸ˜†

    ⬜🟨🟨⬜⬜ Soare
    ⬜🟩⬜⬜⬜ Clint
    🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 Alloy

    1. Great start pair! I’ll have to calculate the green score on that one and compare to my list.

    2. From a green and yellow score, this pair appears to be the winner (so far).

The green score is how many times does a letter appear in the correct position for that word for the 2315 list of answers.

The yellow score is how many times the letter just appears in the word (wrong or correct position) for the list of 2315 list of answers.

First neither SOARE or CLINT are on the 2315 list and not likely to be ADD’s. So, chances of getting it in one or two are far remote.

      But, that’s OK.

      It uses the most common letters E A R O T // L I S N C

      SOARE – (GS) 1528 (YS) 5098
      CLINT – (GS) 1100 (YS) 3171
      ===================
      TOTAL – (GS) 2628 (YS) 8269

      Compared to other leading combinations

      CLONE – (GS) 1249 (YS) 3758
      STAIR – (GS) 1120 (YS) 3947

      CEORL – (GS) 992 (YS) 4082

      ALIST – (GS) 1032 (YS) 3767

      2. Keep in mind that REPEATS are still are only the solution about %10 of the time.

Might work well as a filter, but don’t expect success if a lot of unplayed common words are still available.

        1. At the top of the list I’ve added current odds (repeats over all since GHD) x elapse days since last repeat. I’m going to create report a low / medium / high repeat chance really based on days passed. So maybe 0 to 4 days, low, 5 to 9 days medium, 10+ high. There isn’t much random going on with the repeats but there is fluctuation, so it is all a guess.

          1. Jack K Avatar

I’m wondering if a three-peat may be in the works down the road just to mess us up?

          2. Same, although I doubt it will happen for years. However, I have been thinking about how to show it!

          3. She has done two ADD’s in a row before (in regards to 2-peats).

So, a Three peat of either ADD’s or REPEAT’s is not inconceivable especially as we start to run out of words from the original answer list.
