π©π©π©π©π© NieceStare, Colin, got it down to 4 words, 3 of which had been used. I believe there have been 3 Repeats so far in May, so Iβm glad I went with Niece which was not previously used.
-
STEAL left 34 possible, 22 had been used. CURDY left BEECH, NIECE, and PIECE (used). The second seemed more likely.

NYT AVG. 3.9STILE was a good start.
Then MINCE left only one possibility, and it hadnβt even been used!

I was torn between NIECE and DUNCE. I opted for NIECE because I just returned from visiting mine where I introduced the 11-year-old to Wordle and sharing our daily results. Iβm afraid she might struggle a little with todayβs.

Thanks for answering my wordle history questions. I was new to the game when the first a&b answers happened and always wondered about that…

Thatβs how you know youβve narrowed it down to one or two unused solutions.
The fewer there are, the harder it is to find the solution.

Wordle 1,800 3/6
β¬β¬β¬β¬π© ROATE
β¬π©π©β¬π© LIEGE
π©π©π©π©π© NIECELIEGE narrowed it down to NIECE and SIEVE.
LIEGE will be my 2nd guess going forward for this pattern until I change it.
-
I canβt decide what this looks like. An elfβs shoe? At least itβs all green.
-
That is about the most efficient 3 I’ve ever seen. If you had started with liege would you have gone for a solve in two with all vowels?
-
I guess in effect, you already did! Never mind. No coffee yet babble…
-
No worries about the coffee!
Of course, you know that I would never start with a double E to start the puzzle.
Itβs OK after E is already established.
Thank you very much for the compliment!
-
I’m curious if you know why the list starts with cigar as #0? Also, the story behind the anomalous four days from February through May in ’22 with a & b answers. Was that the transition from the British version to the Times? I remember only mass confusion.
-
-
Do you mean the Five Forks list? CIGAR is the first answer to the first Wordle puzzle and also the first to repeat on Groundhog Day this year.
The a and b answers are days where people had 2 different answers to the days puzzle.
Shouldnβt you have asked Jeb?
Not sure why youβre asking me.
-
I’m sure it’s because you seem knowledgeable, JD
According to the internet, CIGAR was the test run word played only by a small number of people. That’s why it gets labeled #0.
The internet also suggests that the double word days were a result of NYT editing the word list to weed for obscurity (AGORA, HARRY) and for sensitivity (FETUS, BUTCH). The latter two were on back to back days and seem to have been close to the wire edits that were not caught when players had not refreshed their browsers. The first two may have been for similar reasons or just implementation glitches. At least, that’s the story. After all this, NYT smoothed out their system.
-
Thank you Mike S
-
I figured you are so knowledgeable about wordle you might know it’s history. Sorry to have bothered you with this. You are correct, I should have asked Jeb.
-
-
No worries. Mike had a nice explanation.

After the silly guess of PENNY using a double letter I decided to go for the double e in NIECE ,
Who’s that puppy on the grass there?-
Youβre fortunate that N was in the answer.

Good βοΈ/π to all!-
LOL! Do you play chess?
-
No – too much strategy for me
-
Bummer, Iβm always looking for someone to play that game.
I think itβs helped me with a lot of things in life.
Iβm very into βgame theoryβ and I try to apply it to every game I play.

I think 4 is a great solve in this situation!
