Least is a genius word’
It could be a result of your settings for WordleBot: there is a gear button in the upper right corner which takes you to a toggle button for WB considers previous solutions list in making selections or WB does not consider previous solutions list. Today the “uses list” showed WB solving in five steps while the “does not use” showed four steps. You can switch your choice back and forth on the results comparison page to see both.-

CARLE chosen by Prof. MikeAnother -ER ending…sigh! I mined the PU list for word endings, word beginnings, and, of course, previous solutions. It is still rather soon for another repeat. As I compete only against myself, I was happy to solve in five!

When the E and R are in the puzzle, ER ending is probably the most common occurrence.
When it was WAVER, 9 out of the 13 words left after ROATE ended in ER.
Today, all 3 ended in ER

Thanks for your comment. I should explain something more clearly. I knew from the getgo that the two letter ending was -ER: what I meant in my comment was the three-letter ending. Like -DER, WER, and VER. I had very little to go on from CARLE. In Hard Mode, you can’t WHOMP, but you can do what I call a Glancing Blow: find a word using the letters you know and containing ones you think might be possible. “Prof. Mike,” our mentor in Wordle, considers trap avoidance part of strategy, but when it is inevitable, you do what you can. ENTRY used strong consonants, included E and R, and was not on the PU list. (BTW, he eschews the PU list, which is one reason I participate in After the Party. I like using FF as part of my Wordling). I chose words as guesses that eliminated various possibilities : they were not the ones WordleBot considered the most efficient, but they accomplished what I wanted. In the end, I had 6 words to chose from. I felt that MOVER was the most likely.-
Yes, this situation is where ‘Hard Mode’ results can benefit from a different approach than when using, uh, ‘Other Mode’, especially when the player is trying to limit themself to unused words.
Getting letters locked in early to a very common word form can limit the ability to try more frequently used letters in remaining guesses, an ability that is already limited by the number of unlocked letters previously discovered.
That said, it’s hard to resist trying out the more common word form by the third guess. 3 guesses being the gold standard.
(I don’t know who Prof. Mike is. But I do know it’s not me.)

“Prof. Mike” is one of the proprietors of the WordleTools site. Unfortunately it is partially unavailable due to sudden popularity exceeding its limits, but several useful sections are still up.
I know you are a different Mike because you are in a western time zone (unless you are using a VPN:-))

So you avoid the ER ending temporarily so you can play more letters while avoiding the “_o_er”, “_i_er”, “_a_er”, “_e_er” patterns.
Interesting strategy.

I don’t play in hard mode, but most of my solutions could have been played in hard mode.
