{"id":321,"date":"2005-06-25T09:51:47","date_gmt":"2005-06-25T09:51:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fiveforks.com\/jeb\/2005\/06\/wart_has_moved\/"},"modified":"2005-06-25T09:51:47","modified_gmt":"2005-06-25T09:51:47","slug":"wart_has_moved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiveforks.com\/jeb\/2005\/06\/wart_has_moved\/","title":{"rendered":"Wart Has Moved Downtown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last weekend I moved mac.fiveforks.com off our home <a href=\"http:\/\/www.everymac.com\/systems\/apple\/imac\/stats\/imac_1.25_17_fp.html\">iMac (vintage 2004)<\/a>  in the living room to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.everymac.com\/systems\/apple\/powermac_g3\/stats\/powermac_g3_400_bl.html\">G3 (vintage 1999.)<\/a> I got the G3 several months ago for free and, it has been running in test mode without a hitch in my basement. Its name is Wart, Merlin&#8217;s nickname for the young King Arthur.<\/p>\n<p>Last night I moved Wart downtown to a server closet, so while the older 400 mhz G3 is three times slower than our 1.25 ghz iMac, it has 4 times the speed access to the internet. This is kind of like the tradeoff someone working downtown makes when moving from a bigger house in the suburbs to a smaller house in the city to cut commute times.<\/p>\n<p>This week I was handed a bigger house. A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.everymac.com\/systems\/apple\/powermac_g4\/stats\/powermac_g4_867_qs.html\">G4 (vintage 2002)<\/a> which I will swap out with the G3 when I can find the time.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually I&#8217;d like to go to an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.everymac.com\/systems\/apple\/xserve\/stats\/xserve_g5_2.3_dp_node.html\">XServe<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Note to self:<\/p>\n<p>The manual address with automatic DHCP mode did not work.
