    • Merry Christmas jumps to Happy New Year! Thanks for the feedback Irene. List caching is a challenge, and I have several things in place trying to make sure you have the latest version of the list (updated at 6:00 am ET each day with prior day’s answer.)

The little blue refresh icon at the top of the list is a “super refresh” button, so when in doubt use that.

  1. Hey, I use your masterpiece, five forks.com, daily in a family group Wordle meetup. I notice you have not posted the daily word since Christmas. I am hoping this is a long awaited vacation for you and not some untoward happening in your life. If it is the first, good on you. If it is the second, I hope it is not monumentally bad.

    • All is well, thanks for your concern Irene! Just an older copy cached in your browser. I added the little blue recycle button at the top of the list as a “super refresh” button should the list seem stuck.

  2. Four out of the last 5 coffee donors are “M” names.
Perhaps Nic can move to Mid Cal? 😉
    MaryZ(2), Moshermind(2), MikeDo, Norcalnic, MikeMey(2)

  3. Did someone ask “only Y”?
    CRYPT #1264
    GLYPH #517
    MYRRH #1644
    NYMPH #281
    SHYLY #729
    TRYST #398
    That’s only Y. 😉

  4. Two days later and we have another new third place distant neighbor pair.

    COLIC > #1623 > 11/28/25
    COLON > #25 > 7/14/21 = 1,598 days

    MAKER > #1614 > 11/19/25
    MAJOR > #20 > 7/9/21 = 1,594 days

    SEGUE > #1641 > 12/16/25
    SEEDY > #60 > 8/18/21 = 1,581 days

    • Thanks Mike! That 1600 is lurking around the corner. I wonder if we hit a max as the number of locked neighbors grows….

  5. A new third place distant neighbor pair.

    COLIC > #1623 > 11/28/25
    COLON > #25 > 7/14/21 = 1,598 days

    MAKER > #1614 > 11/19/25
    MAJOR > #20 > 7/9/21 = 1,594 days

    SWING > #1639 > 12/14/25
    SWIRL > #72 > 8/30/21 = 1,567 days

  6. I will never use your site again because you allow [POLITICAL TOPIC] to advertise on your site. Shame on you [EXPLETIVE].

    • Tracy,
I don’t like editing, but there was cursing and politics in your message, so I took it out.

As a technical note, Google advertising manages the (minimal) ad placement on this site. I have put in filters to try to avoid anything offensive or deceptive, but sometimes bad ads slip through. There is an option to look for an ad topic and see if I can block it. So I’ll go see if I can block the one you didn’t like.

      • I’m sorry to see someone communicate with you this way, Jeb. It doesn’t reflect the overall mood of the small community you’ve built here. I believe most folks who have ever been online realize that sites generally don’t control all the ads that make their way into view, since it has much to do with the go between marketers…part of the internet’s nature. This individual’s attitude is an example of a hair-trigger reaction I’d rather see go by the wayside…eager to argue, be vile and generally disgruntled. Hopefully, those who most often use your site have better control of their civility skills. ??

  7. Would you ever consider adding a search bar?

I keep this list bookmarked and use my browser’s search to look only for the world I am considering guessing. Either it has been used or it hasn’t—that’s all I’m looking for. I don’t scroll because I don’t want to see similar words before my brain thinks of them!

It’s easy enough to use my browser’s search, but it would be 2 fewer clicks of there were a search bar on the page 🙂

    • Julie,
I have looked into it, and it is a big technical hurdle to do an “on page” without building a more bloated (scripty) page. This is because search page search (vs site search) is “owned” by the browser, and browsers handle on-page searches different ways. To get a bit more technical, the page you are seeing doesn’t “exist” on the server side in that it is rendered in your browser and only your browser “knows” what you are seeing. It’s weird.
      Jeb

      • The whole “caching” thing is a mystery sometimes. An old copy of the list can get cached in your browser or cached in Cloudflare. I’ve put in a lot of steps to try to time out the cache so you get a daily refresh, but sometimes it just gets stuck.

The little blue recycle button is a “super” refresh if you ever get really stuck.

        Thanks for the feedback Mary!

  8. Shouldn’t FLUTE be 12/7 and GRAVY the solution for 12/8? Just checking. Thanks for the list!

    • Thanks for spotting Digna! I missed the FLUTE update. How could I do that? I play the FLUTE! 😉 All fixed next time you refresh your browser.

    • Thanks Darrell! I was heads down coding some improvements in my backup systems and forgot to update FLUTE! Poor excuse, but it is all I got. Fixed now if you refresh. Thanks again!

    • Thanks Jim! Added it to the BLOCK list. I had it on the ALPHA / CHRON page. Did a quick audit to see if anything else was missing. All 3 are lined up now.

      Good eye!

I was probably “blinded by the light… wrapped up like a DEUCE…” 🙂

    • Peter,

I see LEACH on ALPHA, CHRON and BLOCK lists (with yesterday’s CACTI.)

Try refreshing your browser, and if that doesn’t work, try the little blue recycle button that forces a refresh.

      That work?

      • LEACH is on the list but out of alphabetical order (should be between LAYER & LEAFY, but instead it’s between LEDGE & LEECH).

        • Mystery solved! Thank you KT and Peter. Fix goes out with the next 6 a.m. ET update.

          Me and my phonetic dyslexia….

  9. Can anyone remind me what the nearest neighbor is? Is there a place where some of the statistics are bookmarked or tabulated?

    • Chris,
There is a tie with these pairs each being 1 day apart. So these are the nearest neighbors (in time.)

      GOLEM #87 9/14/21
      GONER #86 9/13/21

      ULCER #237 2/11/22
      ULTRA #238 2/12/22

Since you can’t beat “1 day” these records are not beaten or added to very often the way the distant (in time) neighbors will change. An answer could come between them and “break” the pairing. For example “ULNAR”.

  10. We have yet another first place distant neighbor pair, the third in just the second half of November!

    COLIC > #1623 > 11/28/25
    COLON > #25 > 7/14/21 = 1,598 days

    MAKER > #1614 > 11/19/25
    MAJOR > #20 > 7/9/21 = 1,594 days

    CLUNG > #1610 > 11/15/25
    CLUCK > #46 > 8/4/21 = 1,564 days

  11. CONIC 175 12/11/21

A distant cousin for today’s word.

Thank you for your list. I use it daily!

  12. ! was keeping my own manual (yeah, I know – right ?!) ‘list’ alphabetically – but not sequentially and was wrapt at the introduction of FF – Thank you sooo much. I began using the same starter word after abt a yr. hoping for my one word….. ‘one’ day…..

    • Thanks for the feedback Glenda and welcome to the Five Forks list! My sister and I are currently on a “SAUCE” starter word binge. I’d rather mix up starters and not worry about getting a 1 but she wants to stick with it.

  13. Thank you for keeping the Wordle list! I use it a lot!!! I don’t see the word “spurn” on the list but I’m pretty sure it has been used… Thanks again!

  14. The list used to ‘stay put’ when I went from this website to the Wordle puzzle. Now it automatically jumps to the beginning every time I leave the page. It’s aggravating. That said, I appreciate the list! But can you make it stay at the same place so I can return to where I was in the list?

    Thanks

    • Thanks for letting me know it’s ok after all, Mary. There are some crazy things happening between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. Eastern Time when the updated list is published and some scripts are clearing out all of the caching to try to make sure you get the latest version. That *could* create what you experienced, but it should not happen more than once or twice during that time frame.

      • Mike, Cloudflare is “over caching” today. The blue recycle icon is a “cache buster” by putting in a time stamp variable in the URL.

    • Sandra, You may need to refresh. If that doesn’t help try the refresh (blue recycle icon) at the top of the list. It has a “cache buster” in the link. The the “cache” is supposed to time out every 24 hours, but sometimes the cache gets stuck.

Yesterday’s answer generally publishes just after 6 a.m. Eastern Time the next day to avoid spoiling for the last time zone and players in Hawaii.

  15. Just four days later and we have another first place distant neighbor pair.

    MAKER > #1614 > 11/19/25
    MAJOR > #20 > 7/9/21 = 1,594 days

    CLUNG > #1610 > 11/15/25
    CLUCK > #46 > 8/4/21 = 1,564 days

    STACK > #1575 > 10/11/25
    STAFF > #34 > 7/23/21 = 1,541 days

  16. Just four days later and we have another first place distant neighbor pair.

    MAKER > #1614 > 11/19/25
    MAJOR > #20 > 7/9/21 = 1,594 days

    CLUNG > #1610 > 11/15/25
    CLUCK > #46 > 8/4/21 = 1,564 days

    STACK > #1575 > 10/11/25
    STAFF > #34 > 7/23/21 = 1,541 days

  17. Whoops, never mind. I just figured out the alphabetical and chronological lists run side by side. Duh!

    • Yeah, every answer on the main list is on the page twice. The more compact BLOCK list only has one each, but also doesn’t have the dates and #s, which some of us like.

I count 3 _IELD words so far:
      WIELD #1611 11/16/25
      FIELD # 381 07/05/22
      YIELD ?#330 05/15/22

Thanks for watching over the list, Joe!

  18. Uh oh, looks like wordle is reusing words. Yield on 11-17-25 and in your list sometime in 2021.

  19. We can cluck about a new first place distant neighbor pair. The previous one clung on for just over a month.

    CLUNG > #1610 > 11/15/25
    CLUCK > #46 > 8/4/21 = 1,564 days

    STACK > #1575 > 10/11/25
    STAFF > #34 > 7/23/21 = 1,541 days

    QUILL > #1556 > 9/22/25
    QUIET > #16 > 7/5/21 = 1,540 days

  20. That feeling you get the ONE DAY you don’t use the start word you’ve been using for two years! ARISE!!

    • My brother said his first “one” was a let down. He was surprised to get it but then felt… “I don’t get to play any more.”

Maybe the Wordle gods wanted you to play more.

      • Jeb how many people continue to use the starter word even after it finally hit a 1. “Later” I switched to liter and then orate but my average guess went up over a small sample size. So I switched back to later. Thinking to keep my percentage the same was worth the odds of getting a number one again. Thoughts?

  21. I Love the FiveForks Wordle list for “burned” words. (As described). Wordle play is over 1600 plays .. list is essential! I shared it with fellow puzzlers.

  22. With the advent of the new Wordle Creator tool, is this a sneak peek into the next phase of Wordle, after the current list is exhausted? That is, a new list with 4-, 6- or 7-letter words?

    • That’s a great observation, Kent. Might we see random length words in a pattern like current 5 letters x 6 guesses but 4 x 5 or 6 x 7 or 7 x 8?

It would mess with Five Forks Wordle tidy column spacing!

    • I think there is a big reshuffle coming *or* introduce dynamic random allowing for repeats. The latter would mean no more burned words. (Which I reluctantly advocate.)

      • Very intriguing. I hadn’t thought of randomizing the length of the word. I would have to completely rethink my strategy.

  23. Had I the foresight to list “burned” words, I would have done so. Therefore, no guilt should be associated with this list, though someone else compiled it. ?

    • Wordle made the rule to burn words, so we’re just playing the game as designed, which at 1,600 words would require a mentalist to remember.

Personally, I think they should randomize each day and re-use words. That would kill the list of course.

  24. RABID #1597 takes over as 1st R word, usurping RADIO #155 who held the position for almost 4 years.

King R is dead. Long live King R.

  25. Yesterday’s word HOLLY, made me wonder – Have we had other holiday related words at or near a holiday? Anyone know?

    • After purchasing Wordle, the NYT editor said that she experimented with inserting holiday / topical words into the original randomly sorted list, but she got a backlash from the users so stopped doing that. The “tradition” is that the master list was randomly sorted, so nothing external should influence your guess.

    • FEAST was on Thanksgiving Day in 2022. MUMMY was close to Halloween a few years back.

      • I was going to mention Feast because I called that word the day before Thanksgiving to my kids who I always play wordle with and felt like quite a soothsayer. But I’ve also felt that every word this week starting with FETID had a Halloween tie in. No one else thought that?

  26. I think you’ve mentioned that Wordle doesn’t repeat word answers. However, apparently “TUBER” (10-24-25) is in your list from 2021. There may be others?

    • Angela,

I double checked and only see the 10-24-2025 entry. I don’t see TUBER in 2021, but if you have an exact date or # I will triple check!

It will be a big deal on Reddit Wordle and Five Forks Wordle when the first word repeats. The NYT Wordle Editor will likely make an announcement about list re-use.

Keep your eyes peeled and thanks for the feedback!

      Jeb

  27. Lots of word analysis in your comments. That’s great, but not why I’m here. I just wanted to thank you for your efforts on our behalf. I use your list every day.

  28. Thanks Jeb,

So ULCER & ULTRA are the ultimate inseparable next door neighbours, whereas the other two will eventually get separated when new neighbours move in between them ?

  29. I see the distant neighbour thing, but what is the shortest gap between adjoining words? Are there any nearby neighbours or heaven forbid any next door neighbours?

    • Great question Jeff. These are the three closest neighbors (in time.) The first pair happened very early in week 12.

      GOLEM #87
      GONER #86 (1)

      ULCER #237
      ULTRA #238 (1)

      SHEET #1377
      SHELF #1375 (2)

  30. Why guess burned words? Because FF can provide enough info to get the answer on the next guess. Regards, Ross

  31. Here’s another distant neighbor I noticed a few weeks ago.
    Civil #1563
    Civic #96
    Thanks for the list.

    • Thanks Nancy! At 1467 days apart that’s pretty distant, but did not have a shot at top 3 when CIVIL landed. DRAPE/DRAIN blocked it.

  32. A new first place distant neighbor pair edges out the previous one, and I believe it’s also a locked pair.

    STACK > #1575 > 10/11/25
    STAFF > #34 > 7/23/21 = 1,541 days

    QUILL > #1556 > 9/22/25
    QUIET > #16 > 7/5/21 = 1,540 days

    DRAPE > #1559 > 9/25/25
    DRAIN > #63 > 8/21/21 = 1,496 days

      • Can you explain the neighbor pairs? I’m new to your site. And let me tell you, I love using your list of words. I’m working towards the 365 badge and refuse to get a X/6. I will use whatever help I can get (without flat out cheating)

        • Thanks for asking, Shari. A pattern we noticed as the list got long is an answer alphabetically landing next to an early answer. So the recent answer “moved in” to the list next to an old neighbor. So “distant (in time) neighbor.”

The idea of “locked neighbors” are when two words will likely remain together on the list because no common 5-letter words will come between them.

None of this has anything to do with playing the game. Just curious math.

  33. You show spasm as the solution for #1567, but it’s not listed in the block list updated 10/5/2025.

    • Thanks Joe. SPASM now on CHRON. ! I audited all 3 lists (Alpha, Chron, Block) and found 3 small sort fixes so the lists should all be tidy now.

      Thanks for the feedback!

  34. Thank you for this! Even if I don’t use it in advance on a given day, fun to check on things from time to time …

    • You are welcome Kate! It’s at least good to have the list when you are caught in a rhyme trap or down to guesses 5 and 6!

      Thanks for the feedback.

    • If you want to avoid using past answers (since they are not repeated) look up your guess on fiveforks.com/wordle before guessing. You can use the main list or the space-saving block list. The main list has more information that some people like to see like answer # and answer date.

The blue triangles bounce you back up to the A – Z index.

      Happy Wordling!

  35. In the whole of September so far (today is the 26th), the letter S has only occurred twice, in LEAST and NOISY.

  36. Just three days after a new first place distant neighbor, there’s now a new second place one. Note that the current top four occurred this month:

    QUILL > #1556 > 9/22/25
    QUIET > #16 > 7/5/21 = 1,540 days

    DRAPE > #1559 > 9/25/25
    DRAIN > #63 > 8/21/21 = 1,496 days

    POUTY > #1544 > 9/10/25
    POUND > #49 > 8/7/21 = 1,495 days

    MIGHT > #1536 > 9/2/25
    MIMIC > #48 > 8/6/21 = 1,488 days

  37. Wordles beginning with S routinely average 1 in 6. It has now been 27 Wordles since “split” on August 28.

  38. Hi, just discovered this blog recently, and I love it! Also, I think there’s a new first place distant neighbor pair!

    QUILL > #1556 > 9/22/25
    QUIET > #16 > 7/5/21 = 1,540 days

    Previous record was:
    POUTY > #1544 > 9/10/25
    POUND > #49 > 8/7/21 = 1,495 days

  39. My apologies- I misread an article & thought they said BUNNY was a burned word.
Strangely though, they said that, although bunny would be acceptable as a wordle guess, it would never be a wordle answer.?????

  40. The word BUNNY was used as a wordle, but you do not have it in your list of burned words?
Wondering if there are others that you have not listed.

    • Linda,

Why do you think that? Do you have a date or puzzle #?

I’ve checked a few other sources and do not see BUNNY is used in the past, but I think (hope) the answer to your question is “Zero” as in there are zero missing burned words on the list! 😉

      Thanks for the feedback!

      Jeb

  41. I knew my starter word would pay off sooner of later (wink wink)
Now I gotta find a new starter word… hmmmmm!

  42. After using STEAK as starting word for months, the K allowed me to cut to the winning phrase in two. 😉

  43. Another game I like to play is finding pairs of homophones. Here’s what I have so far:

    ALTAR
    ALTER

    AWFUL
    OFFAL

    BERTH
    BIRTH

    FLARE
    FLAIR

    HORDE
    HOARD

    NAVEL
    NAVAL

    HARRY
    HAIRY

    MARRY
    MERRY

    MEDAL
    METAL

    STAID
    STEAD

    THERE
    THEIR

Let me know if you find others!

      • These are pairs I found that have happened
        BRAKE BREAK
        CHALK CHOCK
        PEACE PIECE
        RIGHT WRITE
        STAIR STARE
        SUITE SWEET

These are pairs I can think of where we’ve only had one so far, including the ferry mentioned above.
        CHUTE SHOOT
        PLAIN PLANE
        STEAL STEEL
        WAIST WASTE
        FAIRY FERRY

It appears that PRISE and FEINT might not be in the word list.

  44. Just eight days later, and we have another new first place distant neighbor pair.

    POUTY > #1544 > 9/10/25
    POUND > #49 > 8/7/21 = 1,495 days

    MIGHT > #1536 > 9/2/25
    MIMIC > #48 > 8/6/21 = 1,488 days

    DAUNT > #1505 > 8/2/25
    DEATH > #21 > 7/10/21 = 1,484 days

      • Brabbie,

On the alphabetical list, each word has two neighbors (except the first and last.) If you calculate the days between adjacent answers, you get their chronological distance. Currently POUTY and POUND have the most distance in time: 1,495 days.

I first noticed this effect. Not sure why. But Mike is now lead look-out for new distant neighbor records.

        Jeb

  45. I came up with the starting word FABLE a while ago. As far as I know it hasn’t been used yet. The reason I use it is that I figured I can use POINT then DRUGS all with unique letters if needed. If still at a loss I can try MOCHY which covers 19 unique letters only repeating the O. Average is 4.15.

    • FABLE has not been an answer yet. Because of the plural S, DRUGS, probably will not be an answer. MOCHY is unusual. It is an obscure Scottish word, so not likely either. Fun dog name!

It seems like the main purpose of #1 and #2 guesses is to be good filters to get a 3, so those may all do that.

Thanks for your strategy feedback James!

  46. Phew! Tough slog for CRANE devotees! Check out the last time a C has been in a word. Then check how many in the past 2 months. Seems almost statistically impossible.

    • I don’t follow. Do you mean CRANE as a starter? It’s on the list, so I don’t use it. I used to use CAUSE until it was an answer. I often use SAUCE.

But you are right that “C” word answers were “front loaded” this year:

      CHOSE 1293 1/2/25
      CHEAP 1294 1/3/25
      CYBER 1296 1/5/25
      CRAWL 1301 1/10/25
      CLOAK 1304 1/13/25
      CREPE 1315 1/24/25
      CRISP 1316 1/25/25
      CHORE 1324 2/2/25
      CROOK 1337 2/15/25
      CLOVE 1343 2/21/25
      CREAM 1344 2/22/25
      CHECK 1354 3/4/25
      CHASE 1363 3/13/25
      CURSE 1383 4/2/25
      CREST 1395 4/14/25
      CLASH 1407 4/26/25
      CEASE 1446 6/4/25
      CURIO 1461 6/19/25
      COMFY 1467 6/25/25
      CURVE 1476 7/4/25
      CORAL 1510 8/7/25

  47. New first place distant neighbor pair. The top three are now even more tightly clustered, with only an 11-day spread.

    MIGHT > #1536 > 9/2/25
    MIMIC > #48 > 8/6/21 = 1,488 days

    DAUNT > #1505 > 8/2/25
    DEATH > #21 > 7/10/21 = 1,484 days

    MODAL > #1489 > 7/17/25
    MODEL > #12 > 7/1/21 = 1,477 days

    • That’s cool! I’ve been using LATER as a starter for awhile now. It payed off good enough for a couple of 2’s on LEAST and PETAL. My time will come, sooner or LATER <(eye roll emoji)

      • My engineer brother decided to go with LATER after he got the win with LEAST. I passed along your eye roll. 😉

      • I used ratio until I got a one hit wonder. I now use roate. It uses all 5 of the first 5 most frequently used letters in Wordle. My average is under 3.8.

Then try to fit in as many 2nd tier letters as possible on the 2nd go (l,i,s,n,c, in that order. )

    • Thanks Valerie! Big day for my sibs.
Sounds like a lot of people got a one! At least I got a two….

  48. Hello:
I probably missed the explanation, but why are some dates listed more than once?
For example in the Date List:
    BUTCH 325a 05/10/22
    GECKO 325b 05/10/22
    FETUS 324a 05/09/22
    SHINE 324b 05/09/22

    • Thanks for asking Bruce. There’s a footnote that you have to now go 1,500+ words down to find, but there were several days after NYT purchased Wordle that they edited the answers. Because of the way Wordle worked at the time, future answers were cached on players’ computers, so some people saw the original answer (a) on those days instead of the new answers (b). A change in tech made the future answers not cache, so this quit happening.

  49. Hi Jeb,

I admit this is nerdy, but what the heck. I noticed the palindrome, LEVEL, several days ago and thought that was interesting. But today, I became curious as to how many there have been so far, so I extracted them with a spreadsheet, and here they are:

    LEVEL 1518 8/15/2025
    REFER 1126 7/19/2024
    KAYAK 671 4/21/2023
    MADAM 387 7/11/2022
    CIVIC 96 9/23/2021

    • Nice research Mike! My youngest puzzle-stud brother scored a 2 with LEVEL and said: “I was feeling palindromy.” I don’t think of him as a nerd*, but now that you bring it up… 😉

    • Katherine,
It will be big news when/if it happens, but I don’t see it on the list earlier. What date do you think it was used before?

      These two are close spellings:
      LOUSE #1027 04/11/24
      LOUSY #1520 08/17/25

  50. I haven’t been able to figure out what word (answer) was the first one posted by the NYT, after it acquired the game. I’m just curious. Do you know?

    Thanks for your site!

    • JK,

Thanks for asking that question. I had to do some digging! There isn’t a clean answer to your question, though.

NYT bought Wordle from John Wardle, and it took a few weeks to move it to the NYT website. NYT continued using the original list Wardle had developed. So NYT did not replace the predetermined list but did start making edits as referenced below. I guess their first edit is their first word?

We have evidence that this year NYT started adding new words to the original list each month, since we passed the half way point of the original list earlier this year.

      This from Grok A.I.:

Below is a summarized timeline of key dates in the history of Wordle, including its creation, rise in popularity, acquisition by The New York Times, and the site URL change, based on available information:

**2013**: Josh Wardle creates an early prototype of Wordle, initially called “Mr. Bugs’ Wordy Nugz,” inspired by Mastermind’s color-matching mechanics. The prototype is set aside after development.

**January 2021**: Wardle revives and publishes Wordle on the web as a personal project for himself and his partner, Palak Shah, inspired by The New York Times’ Spelling Bee and crossword puzzles.

**October 2021**: Wordle is publicly released on Wardle’s portfolio site, powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle. It starts gaining traction after being shared with friends and family.

**November 2021**: Wordle introduces the shareable emoji-based results grid, boosting its viral spread on social media, particularly Twitter. Daily players grow from 90 on November 1 to over 300,000 by January 2, 2022.

**January 31, 2022**: The New York Times acquires Wordle for a “low seven-figure sum.” The acquisition aims to expand The Times’ digital gaming portfolio and attract new subscribers. The game remains free initially, with player stats preserved.

**February 10, 2022**: Wordle officially moves from its original URL (powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle) to The New York Times’ website (https://www.nytimes.com/games/wordle/index.html). The transition includes a rebuild using React and introduces account logins for stat tracking, though some users report streak resets.

**May 2022**: The New York Times removes the word “fetus” from the solution list in response to the leaked Supreme Court draft opinion on Dobbs v. Jackson, reflecting efforts to avoid politically sensitive words.

**November 2022**: Tracy Bennett becomes Wordle’s first editor, refining the word selection process to enhance gameplay. Wordle is integrated into The New York Times Games app, accompanied by WordleBot for gameplay analysis.

      • If “fetus”, a pre-natal human or mammal was banned, in May 2022 as a “politically sensitive word” and Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson made the definition of a “woman” even more controverial soon after, how did WOMAN 900 survive in 12/06/23?

  51. I don’t see “knelll” on the alphabetical list. Thanks for your lists. Use this almost daily!

    • Drina,

KNELL was added this morning at 6 a.m. Eastern Time. Yesterday’s answer is always posted early the next morning to give avoid a spoiler for late-night Hawaii players. (There are some!)

Did you try refreshing the browser? You can also use the blue “refresh” button.

      Jeb

  52. K is one of the least common starting letters. And here we had back-to-back K words that seem on the uncommon side.

    KNELL 1517 08/14/25
    KEFIR 1516 08/13/25

I wonder if less common words have been added to the pool of the original random set of “common” words?

  53. I use CTRL/F to test a possible word: quicker than scanning your excellent list. I play with my BFF daily and we agree that we can FiveForks – not cheating! I always use the same start word (not yet “burned”, of course) but he swings between two. He has a 50:50 chance of a hole-in-one if my only word comes up: I have a zero chance if his other word comes up!

  54. Just stumbled upon this forum, not too sure how distant neighbours work but I think I get the gist of it? I think I found a new one: NAVAL (8) and NASAL (1512), 1,504 days apart. Is this a new record?

    • Kevin,
Currently the section on the http://www.fiveforks.com/wordle ALPHA list looks like this:
      NAIVE 540
      NANNY 714
      NASAL 1512
      NASTY 256
      NATAL 290
      NAVAL 8
      NAVEL 1358

So NASAL and NAVAL are not next to one another. NAVEL and NAVAL are pretty distant though.

      Thanks for asking!

      Jeb

  55. New third place distant neighbor pair. The top three are now more tightly clustered, with only a 12-day spread.

    DAUNT > #1505 > 8/2/25
    DEATH > #21 > 7/10/21 = 1,484 days

    MODAL > #1489 > 7/17/25
    MODEL > #12 > 7/1/21 = 1,477 days

    SOUTH > #1514 > 8/11/25
    SOWER > #42 > 7/31/21 = 1,472 days

  56. Hi- I love your lists- I refer to ithem daily..
However, I don’t see the word IMBUE,
which was used the other day.

  57. The list I see on my screen is wrong. The answer for 8/8/25 shows NASAL. It was IMBUE. The answer for 8/9/25 was NASAL but that day does not show, yet. Do I have the wrong link or URL? Please advise.

  58. I was wondering, so I checked Chatgpt, and out of a total of 2,309 (generally accepted amount) possible answers for Wordle, 1,511 have been used. Because Wordle does not repeat answers, that would leave 798 or 35% of the possible words left.
I wonder at what point they will begin to repeat words?

    • They have to shuffle the deck at some point soon. That or just start allowing the list to be random with maybe no repeats for 30 / 60 / 90 days. That’s what I’d do if I was editor.

      Thanks for the research Tom!

        • They are certainly accepting words that are NOT on the 2309 list. I stopped using a starting word, thinking I had no chance of a 1 with it.

  59. Another first place distant neighbor pair. The top three are tightly clustered, with only a 15-day spread.

    DAUNT > #1505 > 8/2/25
    DEATH > #21 > 7/10/21 = 1,484 days

    MODAL > #1489 > 7/17/25
    MODEL > #12 > 7/1/21 = 1,477 days

    JUMPY > #1482 > 7/10/25
    KARMA > #13 > 7/2/21 = 1,469 days

    • Thanks Mike.

At first look I thought they didn’t like like neighbors, but I guess the AU is one of the last DA’s and then the EA is one of the first DE’s.

      Scary pair.

      –Jeb

  60. Just a heads up that the word Haunt was used Saturday 7/26/25 but does not appear in the alphabetical list…. Particularly relevant today ?
I love your lists! I use them all the time and have converted other people to this website, too.
Thank you for all your help with my Wordle games!

    • Christine,

Carrie spotted I had put HAUNT in the wrong place sorted with HO…. words. Doh! I fixed it on July 29, but you may need to refresh your list to see the fix. I added a little recycle button on both MAIN and BLOCK lists. You can also see the most recent word date on Chronological and the most recent page update on BLOCK. The list is supposed to auto-refresh in your browser once a day, but sometimes browsers block automatic code.

Thank you for keeping an eye out. And thanks for spreading the “word” about the five forks wordle past answers list! 🙂

      Jeb

    • Thanks Jose. I did an audit of both MAIN and BLOCK lists and found two other errors in the BLOCK list. These will be corrected with tomorrow morning’s update:

      ASHEN
      ASIDE

      CURSE
      CURVE

      SAVOR
      SAVVY

    • Thank’s for spotting that Carrie! I *did* add it but I was using really bad alpha! :-O

      HOTEL 744
      HOUND 668
HAUNT 1498 (hiding in the HOs!)
      HOUSE 905
      HOVER 1351

      Fixed! Thanks again! — Jeb

  61. Wordle TOLD me to play twice July 26 (NO answers, NO spoilers). I didn’t realize it was happening because I was tired from a long day of travel and couldn’t remember if I had already played. Lest you not believe me, my record now reflects 1228 played, 100% wins, 1227 current and max streaks. It registered the second play in my guess distribution. How is this possible, and has it happened to anyone else? (This has nothing to do with playing old games that I missed before I began playing).

    • That is odd, Mary. I quit looking at my stats because they get messed up sometimes when I play on a tablet vs phone vs computer. — Jeb

    • Yes, this has happened to me three times, although it has been a long time. I started tracking my stats in a spreadsheet.

    • I did not know about that sponge which the scientist discovering in 1955 named with all vowels, probably to be funny.

Wordle’s list is supposed to be fairly common words, originally filtered by Josh Wardle’s (creator) girlfriend who was second-language English. Of course how you define common is in the eye (ear) of the beholder. Sponges are common but the IOUEA, maybe not. 😉

      Thanks for posting

  62. Loris appeared in June 2023 them
    again on June 18th 2025
I thought there were no repeats

    • Angela,

I do not see LORIS in June of 2023 (or any other earlier date.) I checked other lists to confirm. Are you seeing a list somewhere that shows LORIS twice? I’d like to check it if so.

The day a word gets repeated will be BIG NEWS (in the Wordle world!)

      Thanks for asking!

      Jeb

      • Think I misread the alphabetical list where loris is listed with 1490 beside it then reading across to grand with the date 6/24/23 so conflated the two. What does the number 1490 denote?
I’ve now found the block list which is easier to use
        Thanks

        • 1490 means the #1490th Wordle game answer. The very first was CIGAR #0 (which was the Wordle creator’s geeky way to start a count.)

The BLOCK list is simplified and helps reduce scrolling especially on a phone. The A-Z index on the MAIN list helps with that too though.

Some like seeing the dates and counts. Others just want to get to the guess!

Mystery solved. Thanks for the feedback Angela!

  63. Hi guys,
great job maintaining the Worlde word list!
I’ve been using it for a long time for a private tournament I play with some friends.
I’ve also created a bot that plays Wordle and a tool to help us play.
To update the words in this tool, I use your list, but recently I keep getting this error:
Failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden
Is it a problem because I download the page from a PHP script?
It’s not an automatic robot that makes lots of calls, I just make a manual call every now and then, as I normally do from my browser…
Let me know if there’s anything I can do to get it working again.
    Thank you very much.

    • Gianluca,
I recently upgraded the Cloudflare Cache in an effort to make sure everyone had access 24 x 7 worldwide, even if the origin server was down for maintenance. I’m betting that is running interference. I’ll send you a separate email with a couple of ideas.
      Jeb

    • Paul,
I only manage the past answers lists, and that word has not been used. I am not familiar with an “unused words” list. Thanks for asking!
      Jeb

  64. Hi, just noticed in your alphabetizing, shouldn’t MODAL come right before MODEL? 🙂

    • I messed up the BLOCK list. Got it right on the main list. Batting .500.

      Fixed. Thanks Sheri!

  65. Only a week later, and we have another first place distant neighbor pair, and it’s locked, too!

    MODAL > #1489 > 7/17/25
    MODEL > #12 > 7/1/21 = 1,477 days

    JUMPY > #1482 > 7/10/25
    KARMA > #13 > 7/2/21 = 1,469 days

    BOARD > #1451 > 6/9/25
    BLUSH > #5 > 6/24/21 = 1,446 days

  66. HI, Do you have the extended possible Solution List?
    wordle_possibles.txt

    Kind regards,

    • Thanks for the question, Adrianus. I do not have such a list, but it surely would have been helpful with today’s odd answer!

As the past answers list grows, it gets harder and harder to come up with a good guess. I think they will shuffle the answers list soon and the list will have to start over.

  67. Dear Jeb,
UNDID (Monday 7/14) is on the Main list, but not on the Block list.
    Thanks for everything you do!
    Sincerely,
    Dave

    • Thanks Dave! Pretty sure this is related to some outage / caching problems I was having with my web host, but I think that is all cleared up. (Fingers crossed.)

Your catch made me do an audit, and I found these three were missing from the BLOCK list, all within the dates of outage/caching problems. Fixed!

      NOVEL 1481 07/09/25
      UNDID 1486 07/14/25
      WITTY 1471 06/29/25

  68. Jeb,

It’s only been a week, and we have a new no. 1 distant neighbor pair, and it’s locked, too! (I was hesitant to try it for my third guess, but I couldn’t think of another word.)

    Mike

    • I spotted the low number as I was updating this morning, and I was counting on you doing the math! Thanks Mike!

  69. All I’ll say for now is that I’ll post an updated top-three distant neighbor list. Stay tuned.

    • That’s a fun pair and goes way back! Not locked though. I also like seeing a new first/last in a letter grouping.

      • Another new first place distant neighbor pair:
        *** Consecutive first letters ***
        *** Over 4 years! ***

        JUMPY > #1482 > 7/10/25
        KARMA > #13 > 7/2/21 = 1,469 days = 4.02 years

        BOARD > #1451 > 6/9/25
        BLUSH > #5 > 6/24/21 = 1,446 days

        FOAMY > #1386 > 4/5/25
        FOCAL > #6 > 6/25/21 = 1,380 days

  70. Jeb, why do I seem to be logged in under your account?
I don’t think I can post an image here, but there are important-looking buttons along the top and your name/pfp in the top right. Everything leads to “page not found,” though.
Has it always been like this? Am I just very unobservant?

      • Mike,

It sounds like you are seeing the WordPress Admin Toolbar. It is a black bar with white menu items and a “Howdy, jeb” with my photo in the right side.

I have been doing some de-bugging and that view may have been cached. Can you refresh your browser and tell me if it you still see it? Thanks!

        Jeb

        • Jeb,

I just saw your response. I haven’t seen it for at least a day, but I do remember having trouble loading these pages in the interim.

          Mike

        • I just posted a reply, but don’t see it. After pressing “Post Comment” again, I got the “duplicate comment” error. Let’s see if this posts okay.

        • Okay. I went to another device and still don’t see the two comments that I just posted.

        • But not the one I just posted, and I suspect I won’t see this one, either, at least not immediately.

          • Mike,

I appreciate the updates. This all has to do with making sure the lists are available 24 x 7 (since 20,000 people around the world use them every day!)

I’m using CloudFlare network (CDN) to “cache” the pages so that even if the host site goes down for maintenance, everyone can still use the lists. But there has been troubleshooting to get that all working just right. Should be good now.

The reason you weren’t seeing Feedback updates was part of the caching. You kept getting sent a cache copy of the feedback page instead of “real time”. I will be removing cache from the feedback page for that reason.

BUT the good news is, the lists are staying up and staying current! (Main and Block pages.)

            Thanks again!

      • Update: After a couple of weeks working with tech support, they seemed to have solved the outage problem (which in turn was creating a caching problem) and things seemed to have settled down over the past two days.

The good news is Cloudflare (caching) made sure the lists stayed available 24 x 7. However, the outages could cause delayed updating and messed with the Feedback posting.

As always, I appreciate the feedback!

    • Trin,

It sounds like you are seeing the WordPress Admin Toolbar. It is a black bar with white menu items and a “Howdy, jeb” with my photo in the right side.

I have been doing some de-bugging and that view may have been cached. Can you refresh your browser and tell me if it you still see it? Thanks!

      Jeb

  71. Thanks so very much for your fantastic ‘list’! It’s a very important ‘tool’ in the ongoing ‘quest’ to be a “successful” Wordle player. I believe it’s the BEST list of it’s kind! Please keep up all your great work, here.

    • Might be the best. I think I try harder. And you guys keep me accurate! Thanks for the feedback Tom. Happy Wordling!

  72. You may have experienced some odd behavior with the list over the past week. The web host server had several 30 minute outages, and when that happens, Cloudflare (which helps get you pages faster) will put up a backup copy of the list using the WayBackMachine (aka Internet Archive.) A note appears when it does this.

The webhost is making some improvements to the server to help resolve. Fingers crossed.

    • Should be updated now. Glitch in the auto-publisher at 6:00 am eastern. I updated manually. Thanks for the alert Mark!

  73. Good morning from Texas!
As I was looking through the list, as I do every morning, I noticed a word was out of place alphabetically.
    SHRUB 80
    SHUCK 1434
    SHRUG 426
I thought you might want to know about it.
    Thanks for doing this list!!

    • Thank you Sheila. SHUCK should be in the right place now. My alpha dyslexia strikes again. Something about those U’s and R’s.

    • Hey Barry! The numbers in the alpha list are the game or sequence #. CIGAR was the first with #0, which was just over 4 years ago on 6/19/2021. We’re up to PLAIN #1469 which divided by 365 days = 4.03 years. Thanks for asking! — Jeb

    • Sorry I guess I shouldn’t have put the Wordle in my post. It’s just that I had expended my 3 ‘XXXER’ candidates (which I actually gleaned from your awesome list) and it was my 6th guess. I ‘fudged’ a little and checked the list; then used OCHER. Then, I ‘fudged’ myself.

That’s what I get for peeking. You DO have a Great Site. Thanks!

    • Thanks for the feedback GMunny! That was not supposed to happen and today’s answer did appear briefly. There was a bug in a new Revision plugin I used. (Lesson learned: Test after updating.)

Normally the revision will auto-publish the next day at 6 a.m. eastern. This morning it went to “publish” mode immediately. I resolved the problem within a few minutes, but at any given time there are hundreds of people using the list, especially in the morning.

Sorry about that! Thanks for letting me know!

      • Thank You Jeb. On the plus side, I get to add 2 more words to my Candidates List. OCHER and OCHRE. I didn’t even aware there was a variant spelling. As the say, “The More You Know”
        G

        • Uhm,
          “WASN’T even aware…”
As Reacher would say, “Details matter!”

  74. “Your list gives me the freedom to choose wacky starting words. Thanks for changing my game!” –AmiLOL

    That’s interesting idea. Thanks AmiLOL!

    • GR,
Thanks for the tip. I checked 6 archive sources and 4 had it the way you suggested and 2 had it the other way. Majority rule? Then I was able to check my own answer screen caps, which I record daily, and sure enough you (and the majority) are correct!
Updated both the Chron and Alpha lists.
      Jeb

  75. Why is this list only up to April? Am I missing something? I appreciate what’s here but a bit confused

    • Eric,
Your list copy may be cached in your browser. Try clicking the recycle / refresh button at the top of the chronological column. Does that help?
      Jeb

    • Update: Last Sunday morning my web host had an outage for about 30 minutes. I use Cloudflare to enhance page speed and that has a “fall back” method of pulling a backup copy from the WayBackMachine instead of showing a blank page. I’ve not seen that happen before, but that may have been what you experienced. The WayBackMachine does not make daily updates, so it can be a month or two old. Thanks again for the feedback!

  76. A new first place distant neighbor. Almost 4 years!

    BOARD > #1451 > 6/9/25
    BLUSH > #5 > 6/24/21 = 1,446 days = 3.96 years

    FOAMY > #1386 > 4/5/25
    FOCAL > #6 > 6/25/21 = 1,380 days

    STOOD > #1398 > 4/17/25
    STOOL > #24 > 7/13/21 = 1,374 days

  77. Woohoo! We finally have a new first place distant neighbor with today’s (June 9) answer. I’ll post an updated list after the spoiler period ends.

  78. The number 1445 has been entered twice on words on Admin and Cease.

  79. Hey Jeb, hope all is well. This week’s list is a little wonky. Should be:
    1444 preen
    1445 admin
    1446 cease
    1447 datum
    Thanks!

    • Thank you Angie. Fixed! I removed today’s word from your feedback since people are still playing until Midnight Hawaii time.

  80. It seems like on the normal wordle list the word for 6/4 is the incorrect number and seems like for 6/5 as well. It should be 6/4 1,446 and 6/5 1,447.

  81. Thank you for the super helpful list! I switched from the rock paper scissors one to you because you’re much better organized and easier to search. Thank you again.

    • Welcome O! Glad you like the list. Over 15,000 people a day are using it now.

The main and block formats were all designed based on feedback, so thanks for the feedback! — Jeb

    • Fiveforks is part of my family now. I may be biased, and I haven’t looked at any other past answer sites, but why look elsewhere when the best is in front of you! 🙂

Jeb is always up for new ideas and feedback, which makes this such a good site.

      Thanks Jeb!
      Aitch (yes, THAT Aitch ?)

  82. Jeb,

Although not a distant record, today’s (May 15) answer has a locked neighbor as well as two other interesting characteristics.

      • Besides being the first “E” word, I thought it was somewhat interesting to have a word with three vowels this late and after another three-vowel word, also using the same two vowels, just two days earlier.

  83. A new 3rd place distant neighbor.

    FOAMY > #1386 > 4/5/25
    FOCAL > #6 > 6/25/21 = 1,380 days

    STOOD > #1398 > 4/17/25
    STOOL > #24 > 7/13/21 = 1,374 days

    YEAST > #1421 > 5/10/25
    YEARN > #62 > 8/20/21 = 1,359 days

    • Can you copy and paste the ALPHA list or the BLOCK list into a Word processor and print? The BLOCK list would save paper, I think.

  84. I know occasionally there are two different words on the same day. Yesterday, 5/5/25, was one of those days. My word was SUITE. You show the word as SHUSH.

    • Gale,

Thanks for the feedback and reporting anything unusual. The answers for the prior 3 days were:

      SUITE #1417 05/06/25
      SHUSH #1416 05/05/25
      TROUT #1415 05/04/25

I take care to make this a “no-spoiler” site, so I do not publish each day’s answer until about 6 a.m. Eastern Time the next morning. This allows for late-night Hawaii players (we have some!) to use the list without a spoil.

It may be possible that your browser caches a day and you play the prior day’s Wordle, and it would look like today’s? Not sure.

The cause of two-day answers was fixed technically several months after the NYT bought Wordle. I haven’t seen a report of one of those in over two years. But you never know.

      Thanks again!

      Jeb

  85. On today’s Wordle the first suggestion offered is Berth – but berth has already been a solution.

    • They are 961 days apart which is about 2.6 years. Not a record, but pretty distant!
      CLASH #1407
      CLASS #446

    • True. But so do unburned words which have the bonus of possibly being an answer. It is getting harder to find good unburned words, so I get it. A shuffle is coming.

Thanks for answering the question Vicki!

  86. Thanks to Greg, here’s the updated list of the top-three distant neighbors. Some days I forget to check. So, first FOAMY/FOCAL became no. 1, pushing NAVEL/NAVAL to no. 2, then STOOD/STOOL became no. 2, never getting the top spot.

    FOAMY > #1386 > 4/5/25
    FOCAL > #6 > 6/25/21 = 1,380 days

    STOOD > #1398 > 4/17/25
    STOOL > #24 > 7/13/21 = 1,374 days

    NAVEL > #1358 > 3/8/25
    NAVAL > #8 > 6/27/21 = 1,350 days

    • Do you mean?
      SPARE 1389
      SPARK 1369
Those two are indeed very close (in time). Makes me want to do a nearest neighbors analysis…

  87. After reading about Stood (#1398) and Stool (#24) the other day, I was scrolling down to check a word I was planning on playing in Wordle that day and couldn’t help but notice this while scrolling past the Fs:

    FOAMY 1386
    FOCAL 6

Foamy (#1386) and Focal (#6) would appear to be about 1380 Wordles apart vs 1374 for Stood and Stool. Think we already had a new record there!

    • I appreciate the feedback and help Maggie, even if you mixed up SAUVE and SUAVE. Exactly something I would do!

    • I didn’t do the math when I set up the scheduled list update yesterday but I wondered. If you want to post the top 3 (now that we are past the 6 am spoil time), I’ll do an announcement link. Thanks Mike!

    • That’s certainly a candidate but a long shot. I count 120 rows apart. That means 120 answers have to happen that are Z, Y, X, W, or lower V’s than VITAL (like VOCAL.) That is when the VITAL on the right would advance but not the left, getting them closer.

There have only been 58 answers that are Z, Y, W or lower Vs in almost 4 years of answers. No Xs yet. At that rate it would take about 8 more years for VITAL to align.

I think the list will get re-shuffled in the next two years.

Someone check my math. I was an English major. 😉

    • Thanks for spotting Dave.
I’m counting 120 rows between ALPHA VITAL and CHRON VITAL. It would likely take years for them to meet up because only high W, X, Y, or Z answers (or higher “V”s) will get them closer. I’m guessing the answers will be shuffled in the next year or two.

  88. Good morning, Five Forks!
I was surprIsed to see just now that two of your words are out of alphabetical order, ANGLE before ANGER. Today, no doubt. a lot of people are going to noitice that, for the same reason I did.
    Kind regards
    Brian Gould

    • Thanks Brian! Fixed on both main and block list. Even while fixing it, my brain wanted ANGEL and ANGLE to be next to each other! I mean they are almost the same, right?

    • Nice spot Jillian! I guess this alignment will break when a “higher” W, Y, or Z answer lands. When that happens the alpha WHELP will stay in place on the left and the chron WHELP on the right will move down one. Could be days, weeks, or months away.

      • It looks like WHELP on the right side was pushed down in line with WHELP on the left with WITCH #1256 11/26/24. That’s the last time WHELP did not move down on the left but did on the right. The two WHELPs have been getting closer and closer for years.

      • Looks like the note on the front page should be “Jillian”, not “Julian”. Whelp!

  89. As a beach lover, I was excited to see the word beach played (#793) and even more excited when I played ocean (#797) and got it on my first try!

    • You got a 1 with OCEAN? That’s great! I played CAUSE for about 6 months hoping to get a 1, but didn’t happen, so I mix it up now.

  90. I tried TRUMP today and lo it was recognised as a wordle word. It has many very positive definitions in the dictionary which shows he’s a really good guy beneath all that bluster. I previously tried PUTIN, also a wordle word, a sporting term! Both are unused so watch this space…

    • I asked Grok.com for a list of 5-letter presidents. Grant was already a Wordle answer. I think Trump is the only other candidate for Wordle, but the NYT editors may think it is too political. They’ve removed other political words.

      John Adams (1797–1801)
      John Tyler (1841–1845)
      Ulysses Grant (1869–1877)
      Rutherford Hayes (1877–1881)
      Richard Nixon (1969–1974)
      Barack Obama (2009–2017)
      Donald Trump (2017–2021)

    • BLISS is a good word for sure. With the double S it isn’t tactically the best to start with, but it will be a good day when (if) it is the answer.

  91. SPOILER ALERT! This is supposed to be “No Spoilers,” but it’s 8:49am on 4/8/25 and you’ve already got the 4/8/25 answer posted. That’s DEFININTELY a SPOILER!

    • I do Wordle every day, and since it still doesn’t reuse words from prior puzzles, I use this list every day to make sure my guess isn’t a guess that’s already been an answer. This list claims “No Spoilers,” and until now, I’ve never had one because you never post the current day’s answer, even though there have been times I’ve not done it until late in the afternoon, so to post the answer first thing in the morning on the morning the puzzle posts, what gives, man?!

    • Sorry about that. I have a new Wordress plugin (Revisions) I have been using for a couple of weeks to schedule updates for 6 a.m. E.T. the NEXT day, but today, I clicked the wrong button when making edits and for a few minutes the answer slipped out before I realized it and reverted, but if you started using it in those minutes AND looked at the top right, you got spoiled. Lesson learned: Don’t press that button.

      • I guessed SNARL like I do every morning and was off to a great start. I made a list of all of the words that I could think of that worked for S_AR_ and checked them against the list. SPARE was on the block list (I think), so I guessed SWARM, SCARP, SPART, SPARD, and finally giving up and guessing a word that was already on the list, guessed SPARK with my sixth.

        • The mistake I made would have impacted both the main list and the block list. Since the block list does not contain numbers or dates, it doesn’t act like a spoiler but it’s just as bad. Sorry about that.

Where I went wrong was doing something new with the Revisions plugin. I had already submitted the 6 a.m. revisions (next day) but I wanted to make the edit about Hazel on both pages. Instead of using the “Update” (pending Revision) I clicked a “Publish” button, not realizing that wipes out the future date/time and publishes now.

I got it within minutes, but in the morning there can be 200 people using the list in any given few minutes.

I’ll be steering clear of that Publish button.

          • I find it more amusing than irritating. The obvious explanation would have been that I thought that I had seen SNARE, when in fact it wasn’t there. But sometimes the less believable explanation really is the right one.

  92. Coffee donor HazelG had a nice surprise with #1388 HAZEL on 04/07/25!

Have you had any favorite answers on Wordle?

    • My sister CAROL #826 09/23/23 and my youngest brother GRANT #1215 10/16/24 were family favorite answers.

    • While watching the movie Pelham 123 a couple years ago, I was inspired to enter HEIST – and it was the answer!

      • That’s cool. And that was very early on: HEIST #311 04/26/22. Wordle took about 6 months to go viral around December of 2021 and January 2022.

  93. Hi. I use your service virtually daily. Facts are good to know. And you provide bonuses (e.g. interesting, entertaining tidbits). While we are speaking of V words: N. B. : Alphabetically, VERSE comes before VERVE.

    • Thanks for spotting that Lawrence. I just fixed the Alphabetical list which will publish with the next 6 a.m. ET update.

At least I was half right… I sorted correctly on the BLOCK list.

      Happy Wordling!

  94. We just had our longest string of consecutive words with the letter “E” in them:
    VERSE 1378 03/28/25
    SHEET 1377 03/27/25
    ELBOW 1376 03/26/25
    SHELF 1375 03/25/25
    ANGLE 1374 03/24/25
    DOPEY 1373 03/23/25
    AMBLE 1372 03/22/25
    NUDGE 1371 03/21/25
    BASTE 1370 03/20/25

    Nine words!

The next closest contender was 12/30/24-1/5/25 with 7 consecutive “E” words.

  95. Hi Jeb. So as not to be a spoiler, all I’ll say is that today’s word has a very interesting neighbor.

    • I don’t spot things like this as soon as you do because I don’t update the lists until the next morning. BUT, I’ve just installed a plugin that let’s me make scheduled revisions, so I can update the list but schedule for publishing 6 am E.T. This avoids spoilers for late night Wordlers in Hawaii.

So yes, very interesting neighbors! (We’re still in spoil time at the moment.)

      • Now that we’re past “spoil time,” what’s interesting is that SHEET (1377) became the neighbor to SHELF (1375) just two days later!

        • It’s like two members of the SHE family decided to move into the neighborhood together.

  96. What’s with the blue-shaded words highlighting every other letter in the alphabetized column?

    • Mike is right. This was a list-user suggestion to help when scanning through the alphabet. Later the A-Z index idea came which can make scanning even faster.

      Thanks for asking Jimbo!

  97. I noticed that some recent wordle words (“deity”, “spear”) are missing in the list of past wordle words.

    • Thanks for the feedback Judy. I just checked and both are on the Main list and the Block list. I wonder if you have an older “cached” copy of the list?

Here is a way to check: Look at the latest word / date at the top of the “Chronological” column on the MAIN list. It should currently be:

      AMBLE 1372 03/22/25

If you see an older date the top refresh the page and/or close and open your browser. Let me know how that goes.

There are some technical things I have in place to help with caching. The page has code that is supposed to refresh your browser once a day, but not all browsers allow that. I also have CloudFlare (that makes the page faster) refresh once a day.

      Thanks again!

      • Thanks, Jeb, for your response.
Looking for “deity” once again just now (*before* reading your response, hence doing nothing to refresh the page), I found it on the list! All well!

  98. Hi Jeb!
I had a thought. Is there a way to add a count of how many times each starter letter has occurred? Eg A – 120, B -20 etc (not true counts)
I can do this in excel, but I’m also lazy ?

    • Hello Aitch!

Easy enough to get initial count. And since I manually update the HTML, pretty easy to manually increment. Not hard to do one time in a spreadsheet, but where would I publish it?

      A. It could be built into the A-Z index links:
      A(120) B(20)

      B. I could introduce a line break in the vertical alpha list, but this creates a spacing challenge with the associated CHRON list. They are two same-length tables. I could introuce 26 (or 25 since no X yet) spaces at the bottom of the CHRON.

      Alphabetical
      A [120]
      ABACK 110
      ABASE 26

      C. I could create a footer count block:
      A(120) B(20) etc.

On the BLOCK list, I like how you already see visual counts, and I’m often surprised to see so few N words. I could add counts between BLOCK breaks there.

The other idea is to create a Wordle Stats page and maintain sections like this counts idea. That’s something I’ve mulled over.

I’ll take this into the Five Forks Lab and mull it over!

      • Thanks Jeb.
I think B will be a good idea, but then you’ll have to add more explanation in the intro, to save questions from multiple people 🙂
I hardly ever look at the block list, but that’s a preference thing.

I like the wordle stats / facts tab idea. That’s where you can add all the word neighbours and other random facts. Like the time between two letters occuring (eg 200 days since the last z word occured) etc.

  99. Hi Jeb. I noticed something interesting about today’s answer: As you’ll see, it’s the first instance of word starting with this particular two-letter sequence.

    • So it is. And thanks for avoiding spoiler commentary. I’ll come back to this tomorrow when we can be more explicit!

      • I’m surprised how few answers start with the letter N. As I write this, only 21. Words starting with the letter “O” or “I” are also just 21!

        • While we’re counting words, I used an anagram solver to count the maximum number of five-letter words for each starting letter, sorted alphabetically and by descending count. I have it in an Excel spreadsheet if you want a copy. I formatted it with leading zeros so that it pastes well here:

          A 0958 S 1728
          B 1058 B 1058
          C 1053 C 1053
          D 0790 P 0970
          E 0431 A 0958
          F 0647 T 0950
          G 0725 M 0846
          H 0615 D 0790
          I 0247 L 0730
          J 0258 G 0725
          K 0474 R 0721
          L 0730 F 0647
          M 0846 H 0615
          N 0430 K 0474
          O 0353 W 0474
          P 0970 E 0431
          Q 0087 N 0430
          R 0721 O 0353
          S 1728 V 0292
          T 0950 J 0258
          U 0218 I 0247
          V 0292 U 0218
          W 0474 Y 0207
          X 0021 Z 0130
          Y 0207 Q 0087
          Z 0130 X 0021

Funny, there are 21 possible words that start with the letter “X”!

    • Fixed. CHECK is now on the block list. I did an audit and found the block list had TOPAZ before TOOTH, so that’s fixed, too.

      Thanks Jim!

  100. Likely only those who have seen the show will understand this.

My buddy and I take turns choosing what the day’s starter word will be. Yesterday he chose BEARD, and I asked, “Are you reminiscing about Ted Lasso?” I was freaked out all day long.

  101. On my third guess yesterday, I got FIVE yellow letters!
    That has never happened before!
    My guess was AMONG.

    • That’s fun. I just scanned all of my answer screen caps. A lot of 4’s but never 5 yellows.

That made me see how often I had a lot of yellows (across multiple rows.) The most I found was 11.

  102. Updated list of top-three distant neighbors. AWARD/AWAKE only lasted 10 days in the no. 1 spot!

    NAVEL > #1358 > 3/8/25
    NAVAL > #8 > 6/27/21 = 1,350 days

    AWARD > #1348 > 2/26/25
    AWAKE > #4 > 6/23/21 = 1,344 days / Locked

    REACH > #1313 > 1/22/25
    REACT > #28 > 7/17/21 = 1,285 days / Locked

    • Patricia,

I update the list every morning on vacation or not. I don’t think I’ve ever missed a day. BUT, I do make errors, so thanks for keeping an eye out.

Navel was added to the Main List and Block List within a couple minutes of one another this morning. I just did a double check with a Private / Incognito browser (no caching) to confirm. Did you try refreshing the Block List page?

      Thanks for the feedback!

      Jeb

  103. What does “distant neighbor” mean? Also, does “Locked” mean no words between?

    • RichG,
Neighbors are played words that don’t currently have any other played words in between. The more elasped days between when those words were played, the more distant the pair is. When a newly played word is alphabetically closer, then that becomes the new neighbor. And, yes, when no other word can be closer, then the pair is locked.

  104. I figured it out. The triangles bring you back to top. You should clarify this as my friend thought they were repeat words!

    • Thanks for the feedback Jim.

Changed it to say the blue triangle “= jump back to A-Z.”

  105. I only recently found FiveForks.com/Wordle and consult your archive of the “Used-Wordle-Word” list daily. I agree with others that the NYTimes should consider cancelling the policy not to recycle used words, as about 50-60% of possible solutions have already been used and can thus be excluded. The bot, though, does not consider these exclusions. It’s easy to “beat the bot” using your archive! The bot’s comments on my burner words are often wrong and annoying.

    • I’ll reach out to NYT about licensing fiveforks.com/Wordle list to The Bot… for coffee. 😉

      Thanks for the feedback Adrianus!

  106. Black letters just means you have letters to eliminate. Vowels vs constant s are both equal in strategy for me.

  107. New top-three distant neighbors. Two top pairs locked!

    AWARD > #1348 > 2/26/25
    AWAKE > #4 > 6/23/21 = 1,344 days / Locked

    REACH > #1313 > 1/22/25
    REACT > #28 > 7/17/21 = 1,285 days / Locked

    CRISP > #1316 > 1/25/25
    CROAK > #33 > 7/22/21 = 1,283 days

      • Hi Jeb. Can you believe it? AWARD/AWAKE only lasted 10 days in the no. 2 spot! I’ll post the updated list on Sunday morning. Please keep an eye out since it might get caught in the spam filter again. Thanks.

      • A long time (1350) between these fighting ships and belly button distant neighbors!
        NAVAL #8 06/27/21
        NAVEL #1358 03/08/25

  108. Love having this list. That return to the top arrow doesn’t seem to work for me. Only complaint I have.

    • Vonda,

Glad the you like the list. If the A-Z return triangle isn’t working, have you tried the BLOCK list to save scrolling?

What browser you are using on what model device? Thanks for the feedback!

    • Thanks Mike! I don’t think the plural CLOTS will show up. CLOUT for sure. CLOTE and CLOUS maybe. Wordle does go obscure at times.

      • CLOUS is plural, too, so that probably won’t show up, either. So it’s CLOTE and CLOUR, maybe but unlikely.

  109. Updating the list today, I spotted this pattern*. Are they locked neighbors (no other words will come between them)?

    CLO S E 822
    CLO T H 260
    CLO U D 1199
    CLO V E 1343
    CLO W N 432

    *S T U V W

  110. Finally just had my ‘ONE’ after using the same word start in a run of over 1000 successes without a fail.

This list is just the job to find my new start word.

Lets me check it hasn’t come out yet to give me a chance for another ‘ONE’ in the future.

    Great Job

    • Congrats Geoff! My brother and sister have used (different) static starters with the same ONE objective. When my brother got his “ONE” he said it was exciting to watch the letters all turn green. But then he had a little let down… “I don’t get to keep playing.” Hah!

  111. I don’t often check past words but when I do this website is much the easiest to search on and it’s a real advantage that it doesn’t include that day’s word.
It feels a bit like cheating to check, but I sometimes do it when I’m nearly at the solution but there are still several very similar options.

    • Thanks for the nice comments, Clarrisa! You are welcome any time! Especially when you find yourself in a “rhyme trap”!

The cheating debate is funny. There is no rule about keeping a list. It is more work to check a list, and if you don’t use any “burned” words (I don’t) then the game requires more work and thinking. List users are dedicated!

The game creator decided to not re-use words, which after 3 years is a lot of ineligible words. Seems like a psychological barrier for new players, and it isn’t sustainable as a higher and higher percentage of words become ineligible.

I think they should just shuffle the word pool every day, month, six months, or year. Meanwhile, 17,000 Wordlers use the list every day!

      • I’d have to disagree with you here, respectfully. It requires much more strategy and thought to think ahead and avoid word traps.

        Thanks for maintaining the list!

  112. World (advanced) It would be GREAT if you could lock the alphabet at top of page, so when I scroll the list, the alpha letters stay right there. It kinda sucks to have to scroll, scroll, scroll back and forth to check words. Wasn’t a problem when game first started, but there are SO MANY WORDS in the list now!!!! I love your site, but this one tweak would make me love it more!!!

    • Liz,

The little “up” triangles are supposed to jump back to the A-Z list to reduce scrolling. Do those work for you?

I agree having the index pinned to the top would be good, but this is an HTML code block inside a WordPress page, and I don’t know how to pin the index code. But I’ll ask around.

      Thanks for the suggestion!

      Jeb

    • Hey John. Can you explain that more?

Google supplies a small ad once per visit that you can click out of the way, but Five Forks ads should not be on Wordle or WordleBot. Those would belong to NYT.

      Thanks for using the list!

  113. I don’t understand what’s happening, but thank you for your Wordle list, which I use every day.

  114. It might be time for a “words left’ list. It’s taking longer all the time to do a Wordle by having to search for what’s left.

    • Hah! That would be helpful. When the game was first launched the list was about 2,300 possible words sorted randomly for about six years of play. Not sure if NYT expanded the list. At some point the deck needs to be re-shuffled and start over! (Or just allow words to be re-used randomly.)

I count my “list blocks” each day. I’ve gotten up to 9 blocks in one game a few times.

    • If this list were ever created, it would need to be completely segregated from the current list. I am a purist and I never check to see what words are remaining.

      • I make my own list of what fits and eliminate the used ones. If another Wordle comes around with those same letters/positions, I check my list. I didn’t even realize what the Block List was until I accidentally clicked on it. It would ruin the fun for me.

        • Mary,

Just confirming… is the Block List useful to you or is it ruining fun for you? Not clear on that.

The Block List is really just the same as the alpha list but without the numbers and dates.

          Thanks for the feedback!

          –Jeb

  115. Hi Jeb. Although not a record, today’s word is not only locked to its predecessor, but is alphabetically sequential. How many times has that happened so far?

    • I see that! My brain: A spreadsheet that converts letters to their numeric values– ASCII or vlookup– adds them up, and looks for a difference of 1, and the first 4 match except for Z-to-A rollovers, but are there even any of those….

      Off to the lab!

  116. I am surprised Noone has mentioned the connection with fewer and fever. I don’t think anything can get between them.

  117. What does the little triangle against the words mean? Also, it would be easier for us Brits if we could buy you a coffee in £s. Thanks or your website, it’s wonderful and I use it daily.

    • Lesley,

The triangles are links back to the A-Z index at the top. The A-Z index takes you down to the associated letter group. Should save scrolling time especially on a phone. Does it work for you?

Thanks for offering to buy me a pound of coffee. (ha ha). I have a Venmo link on the coffee page. Is the Venmo link an option? https://buymeacoffee.com/jeb.fiveforks.labs.

      Thanks for using The List!

      Jeb

  118. Hi Heb, your spelling of Ulcer is incorrect at first, then correct when you list the 2 words. FYI

    • Well that’s embarrassing. I was just so excited about the U news. 😉

      Corrected. Thanks Angie B.!

    • Aimee,

      Thanks for reporting!

You may need to refresh your browser. I usually post yesterday’s word between 7:00 am and 8:30 am to avoid spoiling people playing Wordle in the far west time zones which many do late at night.

I have an auto-refresh script that is supposed to refresh for you once a day, so I hope that helps.

      Thanks again!!

      Jeb

  119. I posted this earlier and wondered why I didn’t see it. Fortunately, I kept a copy:

Okay. New top-three distant neighbors. Topped pair locked. All occurred within a six-day span!

    REACH > #1313 > 1/22/25
    REACT > #28 > 7/17/21 =1,285 days

    CRISP > #1316 > 1/25/25
    CROAK > #33 > 7/22/21 = 1,283 days

    SQUID > #1311 > 1/20/25
    STAFF > #34 > 7/23/21 = 1,277 days

    • Is the nature of “distant neighbors” that the longer the list grows the more frequent records are broken because the numbers keep getting higher? I would not have thought that, but maybe.

      Math mulling….

  120. Mike spotted the new “DISTANT NEIGHBORS” record holders are also “LOCKED NEIGHBORS” in that no other word can come between them on the list. Great spot Mike!

Top 3 distant neighbors. Topped pair locked.

    REACH > #1313 > 1/22/25
    REACT > #28 > 7/17/21 =1,285 days = 3.5 years.

    SQUID > #1311 > 1/20/25
    STAFF > #34 > 7/23/21 = 1,277 days

    BLUSH > #5 > 6/24/21
    BOAST > #1276 > 12/16/24 = 1,271 days

    • Thanks, Jeb, but I don’t believe that those other pairs are locked neighbors. For example, stack falls between squid and staff, and board falls between blush and boast.

      • I’m showing the top 3 DISTANT. Only the first pair happen to be locked. Being locked is not part of the contest, but it is interesting!

        • I kind of thought you were going to say that. So, how “far away” can two words be and still be considered neighbors? Two possible words in between? Three? The same first letter?

        • Oh, I think I just answered my own question. Neighbors are played words that don’t currently have any other played words in between. When a newly played word is closer, then that becomes the new neighbor.

          • I like your question. I had not considered the last A word and the first B word being neighbors, but sure, they are. And they can also be locked!

            I’ll watch for those!

    • Is this a trend?
50% of the words for the last two weeks have double letters.
      CREPE 1315 01/24/25
      UPPER 1314 01/23/25
      ICING 1312 01/21/25
      ROWER 1310 01/19/25
      SILLY 1309 01/18/25
      KNACK 1306 01/15/25
      TOTAL 1303 01/12/25

      • Philby,
Well that’s a great question. I went down a rabbit hole with a spreadsheet that I will finish and share. But the short answer is “No, it isn’t a trend.” I looked at all 14 day periods going back to the beginning.

29% of words have at least one set of repeat letters. This means an average 14 day period will have 4 repeaters. One 14 day period had 10! Your 7 day spot (50%) isn’t as common, but there are 75 14-day periods with 7 which is 5.7% of the periods.

        Repeats / 14 Day Periods / %
        0 16 1.2%
        1 64 4.9%
        2 158 12.1%
        3 279 21.3%
        4 304 23.2% <– most common
        5 229 17.5%
        6 148 11.3%
        7 75 5.7%
        8 27 2.1%
        9 7 0.5%
        10 1 0.1%
        Grand Total 1308 100.0%

Thanks for the homework assignment! 😉

        • Four out of fourteen it is then. Many thanks Jeb for all that numbing number crunching!…
I would haver that E is the letter that repeats the most …

  121. Your list goes through 2021. Wasn’t Wordle established long before then?
(Reposting this question bc I originally posted under a thread by accident )

    • Nicole,

Josh Wardle created Wordle in mid 2021 for friends and family and went public in October of 2021. NYT bought the game in Jan 2022.

The Five Forks Wordle list goes back to the original friends and family database since those words are “used” too. Thanks for asking!

      Jeb

      More here:
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wordle

    • Bonnie,

I did some double checking with other list sources, and MOCHA is not on any past answers list. At this point http://www.fiveforks.com/Wordle is a very reliable source, getting updated each day, and 15,000 daily users keeping me straight!

Good word. Use it when it makes sense!

      Jeb

    • The triangles are links back to the A-Z index at the top. It helps reduce scrolling if you need to jump from one letter group to another.

  122. Hello,
“The word “grain” is out of alphabetical order.

This is a great service you are doing…it saves me a lot of errant guesses.

    • Thanks for the alert, Bill. I update the HTML by hand sorting by thinking “L, M, N”… which is subject to error!

I checked the MAIN list and it looks right:
      GRAIL 863
      GRAIN 1287
      GRAND 735

I checked the BLOCK list and it looks right:
      GRAIL GRAIN GRAND

So not seeing it. BUT, I put all three lists (Alpha, Chron, Block) into Excel to do an audit, and found these errors, so you inspired me to clean up the list!

      Alpha List Fix:
      HARSH 1182 -> HARRY 284a
      HARRY 284a -> HARSH 1182
      JOKER 675 -> JOINT 1207
      JOINT 1207 -> JOKER 675

      Block List Fix:
      DECRY -> DECOY
      DECOY -> DECRY

Thanks again, and glad the list helps!

    • Bill:

Just realized GRAIN was out of order, and Philby pointed it out on January 7 when I fixed it. So I wonder if your copy of the list needed to be refreshed? One way to tell if your list is current is check for yesterday’s word / date at the top of the CHRON list.

      So you *WERE* right!

    • Good catch Philby. Corrected on MAIN list. It was in the right spot on the BLOCK list, so I’ll take half credit. Thanks!
      😉

  123. I was thinking a fixed ( non scrolling) index (alphabet) vertically on one side of the screen might be significantly easier for searching the list?
As opposed to having to arrow up and then alphabet to a letter?

Something ‘slick and/or trick’ might be out there..
I guess not having it take up too much room would be key.
Maybe sometime like a touch overlay, or underlay…,
Or one that only appears when one touches a control

    • Eben,

I can imagine that but I have no idea how to do it. Have you tried the BLOCK list format? It is designed to maximize information on the screen and have less scrolling.

The list is hand crafted HTML (for maximum spacing control) housed inside a WordPress page. 90% of list users are mobile, so I’m always trying to get the mobile experience working best.

      Jeb

  124. Your ‘list’ is 1 of my ‘super’-tools! I use it EVERY time I play “Wordle”! It’s invaluable for eliminating “already used” words. It’s the BEST ‘list’ of its kind that I’ve ever found. Please keep your wonderful ‘tool’ going, as long as “Wordle” can be played.

    • My calendar dyslexia!

I’ll blame Christmas for typing 12/25/25!

      Fixed. Thanks Diana!

(And Happy New Year when we get there!)

  125. Locked distant neighbors. No word will move in between them. It took over 1,000 days for SHARE to “move in”.
    SHARD #229
    SHARE #1285

    • Hi Jeb. Woohoo! Today’s answer has a locked neighbor that’s even more distant than the one you posted about last week.

          • Great spot Mike. These locked neighbors now hold the distant neighbor record breaking 3.5 years apart!

            REACH #1313
            REACT #28
            1285 days = 3.5 years apart

  126. Jeb

I cannot thank you enough for this site. It’s part of my daily routine to just check before I answer. Some say it’s cheating, I say, it’s winning with style! 🙂

Wishing you and the Forks familie, friends and supporters a wonderful Christmas and all the best for 2025.

    • Thanks Aitch. I say we are playing the game as designed.

I think words should be recycled. Only the best card counter could remember 1,000+ words, and new players would have no memory, so who would want to start playing Wordle knowing so many words are “burned”?

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year!

    • And from me too! Winning with style. I like that a lot. Could not imagine doing Wordle without Jeb’s site now. Merry Christmas and all the best for 2025. Coffee on its way Jeb! ????

  127. Your list goes up to WORDLE 1278 – but when I copy and past into EXCEL there are 1283 lines – why is this?

    • There are 5 “extra” words in this list: #0 CIGAR is the first answer. NYT changed 241, 284, 324 and 325 resulting in people seeing two different answers on the same day.

The 4 “double” answers are numbered “a” and “b”.

      Thanks for asking Peter!

  128. List alert: VYING takes over last V position from VOUCH. Looks like a “last letter lock in”?

    VOTER #644
    VOUCH #340
    VYING #1272

  129. Love the site! I keep track of my group of friends’ Wordle scores in a big excel sheet, for some fun with stats. I often fail to update it daily, and when I have to backfill multiple weeks at a time I know I can count on your list!

Also, unrelated, was anyone else incandescently angry about HIPPO? It’s not the full word!!! Even worse than BEAUT. Might just be personal pet peeve though 🙂

  130. Love your lists! I was actually doing this myself when I found your website. This makes it sooo much easier! Thanks :). Just wanted you to know that I was looking up a word today and I noticed that WITCH is out of alphabetical order.

  131. Over 12,000 visitors daily, and still growing!

Page views are higher as people refresh or come back to the list. On challenging Wordle days, there are more page views.

    • That early 20,000 page views day was a coding mistake that caused the page to refresh too often automatically. Whoops.

  132. What are the numbers beside the words. I am guessing it is the number of people who solved it in one try

Thank you for this and your reply.

    • On the alpha sort list, the numbers are the same sequential numbers as the chronological sort. It gives a sense of how old or recent an answer is. The oldest (and first) answer is CIGAR #0.

The block list view provides no dates or numbers and is designed for efficiency of lookup. The main list view provides more information which some of us Wordle geeks like. Helps with audits, too.

      Thanks for asking John!

  133. I’m guessing you must sort the alpha list by hand? Check the order of the words starting with “Wh”

  134. Jeb:
Changing the subject… does anyone track whether Wordle editors have stayed true over time to some ‘Wordle dictionary’ of about 2,300 or so words that supposedly were originally designated as possible solutions? A fellow Wordler pretty much lost their cookies in their support group chat about yesterday’s solution (PRIMP) because apparently it isn’t on that original list and this signals abandonment of that list going forward. I didn’t know that there was a list along those lines, many of which words have by now already been used. Narrows the field considerably if there is such a list…your thoughts? PS I haven’t tried today’s puzzle yet and lag the field anyway on account of western location but hoping it is easier than yesterday!

    • RD: Wikipedia describes the NYT Editor using a random generator of “remaining words” that she reviews. My sense is the remaining words are no longer based on the original list, which Wardle’s girlfriend helped curate as “common words” originally.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wordle

My guess is the deck of words will need to be “re-shuffled” at some point. Perhaps the used-words list will then start from scratch?

      • Alrighty then, with two consecutive days in a row in the rear view mirror, seems likely that someone has stirred the pot and safer to say that the original Wardle list is no longer the highly reliable filtering tool it may have been in the past…carry on and thanks for your efforts!

        • Based on what I’ve read, the original list is mostly intact, but some words have been added, and no guarantee all of the original words remain.

    • Nice catch, Terry. Trying to think how to use Excel to scan for others like that. It’s hard for me to spot visually.

  135. I look for beginning letter trends, interesting to me, the last 5 words spell out v o t e r. Coincidence?? ??

    • Named after the two list users that came up with the idea of having an A-Z index at the top with the return triangles.

      Saves scrolling!

  136. I hate to break this to you, but the word GRANT in the first column is out of sequence. 🙂 Thanks for making this valuable service available.

    • Thanks DJ. Fixed. I have a brother named GRANT that also plays Wordle, so it was somewhat ironic that I sorted him wrong. 😉

  137. Say, could you repost the previous remarks on PARER, probably still the all-time worst destroyer of hopes? I’m thinking that, uh, [today’s word (10/15/24)] might be a contender for second place, worse even than MOMMY.
Also, thanks for the info on the issue of “yesterday’s” solution. Figured there had to be some plan like that.

  138. Gusty is on your list of burned words bus has appeared today and also listed 10/11/24 as well as today. 10/15/24

  139. So we’re all using our own excel sheets to solve then? >D
the 3-Letters so far have been FLUFFY, SASSY, NANNY, ERROR, MUMMY, SISSY, DADDY, MOMMY and now are the bane of my existence… I’m trying to get my average down and their NOT helping 🙁

  140. Love this site!
Wanted to let you know that the last 3 days on the chronological list have the wrong year listed, 2014 instead of 2024.
    Thanks again for your work!
    Wordle on!
    Tamra

  141. A reverse Alpha and a reverse Chron sort order function would be helpful at this point since there are so many answers in the Queues and would reduce the amount of scrolling when looking for certain letter patterns.

    • Sha,
I can’t do a reverse sort button, but two things to help with list surfing are:
      * The A-Z index links with the “back to top” triangles
      * The Block List that maximizes use of space
      Thanks for the feedback!
      — Jeb

    • Cut my teeth on Lotus 1-2-3 and wrote an invoicing system on their integrated Symphony suite (DOS.) I’ll never forget running out of memory (RAM) and had to go ask my boss what that meant. He pulled out a shrink-wrap box of dBase III+ and said, “Try this. And get a hard drive.” My career was set.

  142. I wondered, how many words have 3 repeating letters like MOMMY #1208?
I was able to use Excel’s COUNTIF function to find out!

    DADDY #833
    ERROR #71
    FLUFF #382
    MOMMY #1208
    MUMMY #491
    NANNY #714
    SASSY #878
    SISSY #2 <-- wow!

    • And we have many more to come…I see at least 15, but stopped counting because I’m sure someone else came up with a much longer list 🙂

    • I counted 100, 5-letter words that have 3 repeated letters. Many are obscure, like EXEEM, but there lots of common ones (FLUFF, PUPPY, SWISS, TEPEE, etc.)

  143. Thanks for the font size change.
I looked at this on two of my android browsers, the default one (chrome), has the chronological list much much larger than alphabetical. The alphabetical one still shows the same size.. byt when I turn my phone sideways, the font sizes are both the same.

On the default android internet, the sizes work perfect, so it may just be a ‘me’ problem 🙂

Thanks for always improving this site.

    • Aitch: I discovered I had chosen Desktop view under the Chrome 3 dot menu, and when I removed it, the alpha list returned to proper size. I have no idea how I selected that.

But I also wonder if you have the current style code (which I modified. to combat.) Can you clear cache/cookies for fiveforks.com and see if that helps? — Jeb

      • Hi Jeb

I tried that, but no joy. It’s not an issue for me though as it’s just the chronological list that displays a bit bigger.

If I find any other info, I’ll let you know.
        I do think it’s a me problem ?

        • I’ve noticed the same thing regarding the chronological list being larger than the alphabetical list when I use Chrome on my cell phone.
And as Aitch said when I turn my phone sideways the two lists are the same size.

When I switched to Firefox the two lists are always the same size.

          • Maya,
Could you try a “hard refresh” of http://www.fiveforks.com/wordle in your mobile Chrome browser to see if that helps? Here are the steps:
            1. Start out at http://www.google.com in mobile Chrome.
            2. Choose the “3 dot” menu in the upper right corner.
            3. Choose the “Settings” menu item.
            4. Choose “Site Settings”.
            5. Choose “Data Stored”
            6. Choose “www.fiveforks.com”
            7. Choose the “Clear & Reset” button.
            8. Go to http://www.fiveforks.com/Wordle
            9. Choose the “3 dot menu” again and click on the page Refresh (recycle) icon.

This test should make sure you have the latest style for the site that controls fonts, columns, etc.

        • Aitch,

Would you mind following the steps I put in response to Maya’s reply to see if that helps?

          Jeb

          • Hey Jeb..

I tried those steps, and unfortunately it didn’t work. Tried a few other things too, but no joy

          • Hi Jeb!

I don’t know what magic juju you used, but the font size issue has been resolved. It was either something you did, or my android browser finally moved into the 21st century.

Thanks for all the amazing work on this.

          • Aitch, I spotted some fixes, too. I’ve been working on a server migration over the past week and one step was to disable Cloudflare Proxy which helps web pages draw quicker. I wonder if some older code resource has been stuck for some of us in proxy. Lesson learned: clear proxies after changes. Can’t hurt! Thanks for the feedback. — Jeb

  144. Jeb,
I never thought about locked neighbors until reading this feedback page. So, today’s answer (I won’t mention it yet so as not to be a spoiler) might be a locked neighbor. I can only find one somewhat obscure word that would be closer if it’s on their “word list.” Is that list published anywhere?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    • I agree Mike, and that one wasn’t easy to spot becaues of the I to K rollover!
      @@@I@
      @@@K@
      Good eye!

      • Oh, I didn’t see that. You have the good eye! I meant the other direction where the word I was thinking of was “BRAIL” between “BRAID” and “BRAIN.”

        • I think BRAIL is a good answer candidate. Not too obscure. As for the candidate list, I know others have told me you can “peek” ahead for about a month looking under the hood of the code, but otherwise, NYT is no longer sending down the entire candidate list like the original WORDLE game did. I have no interest in peeking ahead, though. I’ve never peeked at Christmas presents.

    • Shona,

STEAM was answer #1192 on 9/23/2024 and was not an answer prior to that. So far, Wordle has not allowed answer repeats. If they start repeating words (which they will have to do some day) I don’t know that we will need a list anymore.

      Thanks for the feedback!

      Jeb

  145. I have a question about the Five Forks Aitch Bill Index

Starting yesterday the alphabetical word list is on the left side of the chronological list in a column …. instead of how it used to be at the top above the chronological list.

This makes the alphabetical list practically microscopic on my cell phone … whereas the chronological list is still normal size.

Is there a way to make the alphabetical words normal size again?

    • Maya,
I tested in Safari and Chrome for iPhone and Android, and I am not seeing the problem you are describing. Can you tell me what model phone you have and what browser you are using? Also, have you tried restarting your phone? (Helps reset the browser.)
      Jeb

      • Starting this morning I am seeing the same thing, both on my iPhone (iOS18) and my browser (Firefox 130.0.1)

        • Thanks for the feedback Keith. You caught me experimenting with column styling. Two steps backwards, one step forward. But getting there.

      • Maya,

I was able to recreate what you saw on Android Phone / Chrome. If you click on the 3 dots menu upper right of Chrome there is a menu option to choose “Desktop” view. I accidentally turned that on and saw what you saw. I turned it off, it looked better!

I then worked with some of the styling to make the columns behave better on iPhone also.

        Jeb

        • Thanks so much for investigating this issue and figuring it out.

I turned off the Desktop site and both Wordle lists look normal now.

          Thank you!
          Thank you!
          Thank you!

  146. Jeb, thank you for keeping up the list! I rely on it every day to stay ahead of my wife, lol.

Yesterday’s word, SEVEN, was a really good one! It resonated with me personally as it is one of my favorite numbers. However, i noticed that in the word list it also has both a new most distant neighbor and a locked neighbor…it is definitely lucky!

    • I noticed the lock but missed the distant! Great observation Bryan. I’ll post this in the header!

      SERVE #9
      SEVEN #1190
      SEVER #380

(All: Most distant neighbor record is 1190 – 9 = 1,181 days apart. A “locked neighbor” means no other word will come between, in this case, SEVEN and SEVER. Unless SEVEO is a word. Hah.)

  147. If you use the Find / Search built into your browser, make sure you *see* the word in the list and do not rely on seeing 1/1 found or 1/2 found. The reason is there are other words in the header and footer of the list pages, and you can get tricked to thinking a word is on the list. That happened to me today. I almost didn’t guess the right answer!

  148. Looking at the word “honey” for today, it showed up as 1/2. I thought that meant that it has been used before, but it actually turned out to be the right answer. So, what does 1/2 mean? I’m assuming that 2/2 means the word has been used.

    • Marsha,
I’m not sure what you mean by 1/2 and 2/2. But if you did a search for the word “honey” on the list today using your browser’s Find command, you would not have found honey in the list *BUT* the word did appear at the bottom in the coffee thankyous where a multi-coffee donor is named RushNHoney!
      Jeb

      • Marsha,
I added a tip about the 1/1 and 1/2 possible confusion on the feedback page on 9/19/24. Happened to me today!
        Jeb

  149. I LOVE your Block List, Jeb. But the word “labor” should be before the word “lanky.” The reverse order almost tripped me up this morning.

    • Thanks Patricia. I fixed this one, did an audit, and found I had another sort error on the BLOCK list with HARSH HARRY. Also fixed!

  150. Do we have new word neighbours in Camel and Cameo?

Some information nobody would be interested in.. Cameo was my starter word for a long time until it was a winner.

  151. I wish each day’s new list included yesterday’s WORDLE word. Now it goes through day before yesterday’s WORDLE word. Could your code put in yesterday’s WORDLE word once the clock strikes midnight? Thanks!

      • The good news is there is less than a one thousandth chance that not having / remembering yesterday matters! (Probably not doing that math right but you know what I mean.)

          • Hawaii and Alaska are regular “late night” users from my Eastern Time perspective. The regular early users are in New Zealand and Australia.

Because so many come to Five Forks Wordle searching for “no spoiler”, I like to honor that by posting the prior day after 6 a.m. E.T.

  152. Wanted to thank you for the list. I had my own going until mid March, when my IPad went dead, and I subsequently found out my notes weren’t backed up on the cloud, like my photos. It’s a six letter word…ASSume?. I was used to my list, so my average guess is up a bit, but I just hit 900. So ? for your efforts!

    • Good thing Wordle doesn’t use six-letter words. Glad to help and thanks for the feedback Mary!

  153. This list is a great idea. I live for my OCD, so my entire life revolves around lists. Lol ?! I do really appreciate this. Thank you,

    • Thanks Donna!

My father was a list guy. I have a video of him on a beach vacation when we were all trapped inside during a storm. He had a local phone book on his lap. Asked, “what are you doing, Dad?” He replied, “I’m making a list of all last names in this phone book that are colors.”

“God bless the list makers for they shall organize the earth!” 😉

  154. Bill:

I credit you and your list for my 450 (and still going) day streak.

    Thank you,
    Diane

    • You are welcome, Dave. You should be able to tap the triangles to save scroll time. They go back up to the A to Z index. (Named after the two Wordlers who suggested the idea.)

    • I agree, Kent. Celebration added! I had used STAKE as my second to last the day before, and there it was as the answer the next day. Twilight Zone.

    • You are a bit early, Robbie. Because of player in far-west time zones, I do not update the list until 7 to 8 a.m. No spoiler for late-night, far-west Wordlers.

      Thanks for the feedback!

  155. Hey is everything ok? You didn’t update the list to include yesterday’s word. The last entry is the day before yesterday. I hope all is well with you!

    • I update the prior day’s answer between 7 and 8 a.m. eastern time so as not to spoil late-night Wordlers playing in far-west time zones. One of the reason’s people like fiveforks.com/Wordle is because of the “No Spoiler” rule. Other lists update earlier, even the day before!

      Thanks for the feedback CR!

  156. you need to correct your chronological list. You are showing two answers for 8/16 causing the whole list to be off. Thanks in advance of the repair.

  157. I suspect the reason plural nouns are not used is because it would cheapen the game, and essentially allows a whole bunch of four-letter words. Same with past tense. Although interestingly enough, some past tense words are used, like SHOWN. But probably never BAKED.

Because there are no official rules, I don’t believe it is cheating to use this list. That being said, I only use it after I have solved the word. But that’s my choice, not some official rule.

I think this list will be useful even if they start recycling words, and I hope you don’t get rid of it. I started using WordleBot, and if I ever want to analyze a past word, I can use your list to determine which date that word appeared.

  158. Does anyone have a theory on why plural nouns are never used? I learned pretty quickly that a plural noun is NEVER a winner. Adding them into the mix would definitely up the word pool and thwart all this cheating (IMO) going on! Ha ha.. just for the record, while I think this is cheating, i still definitely use this brilliant site for when I’m on the 5th or 6th try…so no judgment here!
This is truly the best Wordle answer site of its kind out there.

    • The NYT editor confirmed early on what we all noticed, that plurals and past tense would be avoided. There is also a bias towards more common words vs. obscure words. Read more about Josh Wardle creating Wordle here:
      https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/03/technology/wordle-word-game-creator.html

Using the list is not cheating, in the sense there is no rule against keeping a list. I argue it is playing the game as designed because the game makers have decided to take away words like plurals, past tense, obscure, and PAST answers. Think about new users. They have no idea if a word has been used. Some people have great memories. Others don’t.

List users are probably more engaged in the game because they are restricting the words they can guess, and have to think of other words if they find their next guess is on the list.

Eventually words will have to be recycled. I think it should have always been that way, but then there would be no need for http://www.fiveforks.com/Wordle!

Ironically, CHEAT #166 is on the list. 😉

      Thanks for the feedback Elise!

  159. FYI:
I noticed that your Wordle word list has a word that is dated for next year:
    MACAW 1145 08/07/25

I just wanted to help you keep this marvelous data as accurate as possible.

Thanks for all of your hard work!

      • I just saw that the dates on the last few entries (STORM, LANKY, METER) are one day off.

Thanks again, this list is indispensable!

  160. Thank you for this! I love Wordle, but forget to keep track! Running out of space on my phone! Much appreciated!

  161. These two are “locked neighbors”. No word will (can) come between them. The longer the list grows, the more locked neighbors we will have.
    SCALD #467
    SCALE #1141

    • Aitch and Bill posted separate feedback here recommending the A to Z links at the top to help reduce scrolling.

So I named it after them!

      Thanks for asking Shay!

  162. First of all thanks for creating this list. It is so necessary as the years go by and the used words pile up! The new index is superb! Easy to use and such a time saver. Thank you!

  163. I LOVE this. Thank you!

Would it be possible to add a ‘find’ feature? A Control F sort of thing that I can use on my PC?

Problem is I do Wordle in bed on my iPad and I’ve not found a way of replicating that here…

    Yours in grateful anticipation !

    • Sorry used emojis. For ?? Read love
Or later on read thank you. Twice!
My suggestion should work using html. I think.

    • The “send” icon (square with an up arrow) in the top right corner has the “find on page” option which allows you to search.

  164. Back to top store works for me when I tried it just now. Great addition for the index!

  165. I agree with Nicole that there’s still a lot of scrolling with some letters. A better alternative to more arrows is what they do on eBay. When you do a search for an item and scroll down a ways, when you stop, an up arrow pops out in the lower right corner which will take you back to the top. No matter how much additional scrolling you do, that arrow remains in the same place until you follow it back to the top.

Thanks for being so responsive to everyone’s feedback.

    Bill

    • Bill,
I’m trying to stay with straight HTML and avoiding introducing floating objects, but I’ll keep that in mind. Maintaining an every 20 arrow is a bit awkward as words accumulate between them, but not too hard.
      Jeb

  166. the arrows work for me, and the feature is great! saves a ton of scrolling. if there’s a way to maybe add the arrow every 20 words or so instead of just the first word of the letter, that’d be even better. just because there’s so many P’s/S’s/etc

but thank you for this regardless!!

  167. Thank you for maintaining and sharing this list. I kept my own list for about a year, but it could never become very helpful with the first 600+ words absent. The up arrows work fine on iPad & Pixel 6a phone. I just discovered the block list and like it.
    Larry

  168. Thanks so much, Jeb, for adding the link to the start of each block of first letters and the back-to-top arrows. Pretty cool sharing in on the name of the index, too. This must be my 15 minutes of fame Andy Warhol predicted.

By the way, the up arrows work for me on both an iPad and an Android phone.

Thanks again for maintaining the list and adding the suggested features. I use the list daily.

    Bill

    • Bill, I look forward to meeting you at the next CBE awards! 🙂

      Great minds and all that.

Jeb – thanks for making this a fun site to use, with the quirky updates. I log in daily and this feedback section is quite entertaining too.

Ps. The ‘ABI’ (or if it’s called a catalogue,
could be the ABC ?) Works fine on Android.

  169. Thank you for a wonderful useful page – exactly what a keen Wordler requires. And the instant scroll to the top arrows are handy too. Being able to look up words both alphabetically and by dates of appearance is perfect. Happy users thank great lists giver.

    • Thanks for the feedback Stephen. I like the extra date and # information for some reason. I like to know how “old” words are, which may become more important if NYT starts reusing words.

  170. I use my (android using chrome) mobile phone to play Wordle and use this website. The jump links are not working and it shifts the columns. I’ve not tried on a computer.

    • Dona,
Thanks for the feedback. I’ll do some testing on Android / Chrome. I wonder if it has something to do with text size settings, and maybe I can adjust that. If I can replicate the problem, I’ll fix it!
      Jeb

    • Nancy,
Can you describe what you use to access the list? Android, iPhone, Computer, Windows, Mac, Chrome, Safari, etc?
      –Jeb

  171. The arrows work great for me. I didn’t notice them when I left my last comment, which makes it irrelevant. Thanks for the change.

  172. The index is the best thing since sliced bread. My right index finger (Apple mouse) just may avoid arthritis now.

  173. The functionality of the new up arrows (“back to top”) works fine for me. I use an HP laptop and Samsung Galaxy cell phone. On my cell, sometimes the arrow appears below the first word, but that’s just spacing between the alpha and chronological lists. It works fine, regardless. Thanks again!

  174. Looks like you guys have a full data set here. Could you maybe provide a meta analysis of the most common letter at each position, such as Position 1: S-20%, T-10%, …
    Position 2: T-15%, E-10%, …

    • Cris,
The on-page links are old fashion (simple) HTML “anchor links” and are used to jump to different places on the list for the A-Z index like “#b, #c, #d, etc.). But the up arrows all just say jump back up to “#a” (the top.) Are all the A-Z links working ok but none of the up arrows go back up?
      Jeb

  175. Thanks so much for creating and maintaining this very helpful list. I use it almost daily.

  176. I use this all the time now. I was concerned about guessing burned words and this tool really helps avoid used words – occasionally I do slip up.
I use one phone for wordle and another older phone for this. Thank you

      • I use two devices as well! An iPad for five forks and my phone to play wordle! Refer (1126) to it daily!

  177. Thanks so much for your work. I rarely remember the word two hours after completing it! super convenient to have both chronological and alphabetical lists. The added arrows are extra convenience!

  178. Yolanda spotted that OUTER was on the main list but missing from the block list, so I fixed that. I hand code the HTML for the list, and I can make sorting mistakes, so I did an audit of all words and lists. I found 5 other sorting mistakes, all just one word off, so not too bad. My favorite error was:

    DINGO 1067
    DINER 740

That sort has been corrected to:
    DINER 740
    DINGO 1067

While incorrect, DINGO DINER was more fun. Someone should trademark that.

    Thanks again Yolanda!

  179. A to Z index at the top is a great addition to the page. Thanks for adding it!

  180. Thank you for this comprehensive, easy to use, helpful, and professional grade site. The alphabet letters, up arrows and scroll bar are great ideas!!!

  181. It was helpful for the first letter, but if the first letter one uses is far down in the alphabet, does not make sense to come all the way back to it. Probably no way around that. Great idea though.

    • Yes there is! At the start of each letter, a small black indicator ( like the arrow top ) takes you back up to the selection area.

  182. Yes to the main list index links! (Though, I tend to use the block list more.)

Thanks for your service/passion and creating a low-resource usage site that is not bombarded with ads. Refreshing. 🙂

  183. Bill’s suggested alpha search with Top arrows is great ! I was wishing there was a word search option to avoid scrolling so much and this new feature is a very efficient fix.

  184. It would be wonderful if there was a alphabet tab on the right so you could quickly go to your first letter when you’re searching because It can change with every try

    • Thanks for the suggestion, Richard. Having a 26 letter floating menu on the right (or left) may be too tricky to pull off, so I’m going to try Bill’s suggestion to have the A-Z at the top with “Top” links with every letter group that can get you back to that menu qucikly. — Jeb

  185. This is a great resource; I use it daily. ORDER was the solution on 06/27/2024 (#1104). It is shown on the Main list, but not in the Block list. Will you please add it to the Block list, please? Thank you!!

    • Yolanda,

ORDER is restored! (To the BLOCK list.) Thank you for spotting!

      Jeb

      • Thank you! And I like the addition of the A – Z links. This will prove very useful. Thanks to Bill for suggesting, and to you for implementing. 🙂

  186. Thanks for doing this. This is a big help.

Now that the list is REALLY long, any chance you could add links at the top which would permit you to jump to the start of the word block for each individual letter, and then a link in each block of words which would take you back to the top? It would save a ton of scrolling.

    Thanks!

    • Bill,

I assume you mean the vertical (main) list, and yes, I can look at an A-Z index at top with the _top links as you describe.

Have you tried the BLOCK list variation? Also saves in scrolling. Would A-Z links help there too?

      Jeb

    • Bill,
Added an A to Z index at top of vertical lists with “top” arrows at the end of each letter block. How’s that work?
      Jeb

      • I suggested this back in February. Glad it’s been implemented now.. works great.

          • I like the new name. ? thanks for the credit.
This site has been my goto for a long time now. Thanks to this list, I’m on 100% with a 405 day streak and 901 played.

  187. Sorry if this has been asked already, but please can you explain why there are 4 days with 2 answers?
    2/15/22 AGORA and AROMA
    3/30/22 HARRY and STOVE
    5/9/22 FETUS and SHINE
    5/10/22 BUTCH and GECKO
I’ve been keeping my own list thus far, and my record only has the second word in each example

    • Good question, Alison. There is a small footnote at the bottom of the main list that summarizes:

“There are 5 “extra” words in this list: 0 CIGAR is the first answer. NYT changed 241, 284 and 324 resulting in people seeing two different answers on the same day.”

There were different reasons, for example, the FETUS change happened the same week as the Roe reversal.

I don’t think we will see these kinds of changes again because of a technical change in how Wordle works. The site no longer stores future answers on your local device (it used to) so Wordlers are less likely to not have the latest edit.

  188. Hi Jeb… Additional comment…. 6/19/24 TERSE word is correct at top of Main List, but still showing “TENSE” at top of the Block list. ?
btw… I love this word check list. I have been playing Wordle for years and this has helped my stats. At 99% wins now. Thx.

    • Lynn,

Thanks for directing me on that. I couldn’t find it on the lists. But I see my little celebration of the third aniversrary was wrong on the block list.

Five Forks Wordle list takes a village. — Jeb

  189. The June 19th word was “TERSE”, NOT “Tense”?
You may wish to correct the list. ?

    • Shelley,
TENSE was not on the list of prior answers before. Is there a reason you think that?
      Jeb

    • Larry,
Thanks for doing the calendar math better than me. I changed the announcement from #1095 to #1096!
      Jeb

  190. So my brother shared your page. All I get is 12/13/2023. It will not update in MacOS. Your code is broken. I wrote ny first code in 1964, so I know…

  191. GROOM comments reference the alphabetical list not the chronological list

    • I do chrono first and then copy/paste into alpha and then over to the block list. Messed up on the copy. Thanks again!

  192. GROOM is incorrectly listed as 108 (KEBAB is correctly listed as 108) GROOM SHOULD BE 1081

    • Oops indeed! Fixed on main list and block list.

SISSY #2 <-- an old word!
      SKIER #1073
      SKILL #232

      Thank you Mary!

  193. Peril has been used. I know because it was the first puzzle I ever did. I started with the word PEARL and got the word PERIL in two, which led me to believe it was an easy game.

    • PERIL hasn’t been used yet. It’s possible you were playing one of the many knockoff versions.

  194. When Wordle changed to NYTimes I had at least two words to repeat. shirk(2)
    sound (2)
I took pictures of them so I know that I am not mistaken.
    Sound was 200 days apart

I guess they can give anyone the same or different words?

    • I have to correct myself. I went back to get the dates on the screenshots and I missed the word “found” but my last answer was sound and I wrote in sound instead of found on my list. I could not find two of shirk.

      • Thanks for the feedback, Terry. My understanding is we won’t see more of these because NYT changed the tech and quit sending future answer list for “offlilne play”. The 4 “two word days” I have documented happened before the change and are explained in the USA Today link below.

        AGORA 241a 02/15/22 (obscure)
        AROMA 241b 02/15/22

        HARRY 284a 03/30/22 (obscure)
        STOVE 284b 03/30/22

        FETUS 324a 05/09/22 (political timing)
        SHINE 324b 05/09/22

        BUTCH 325a 05/10/22 (insensitive)
        GECKO 325b 05/10/22

Are you saying there are more same-day pairs or did you retract that?

        https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/gaming/2022/05/10/wordle-game-two-answers/9703349002/

    • After I “finished” a round of cleaning out virus code, I let my brother know. He said: “And now the site is down?” Woops!

One of my “clean outs” broke something and took a bit to find out where. I’m learning a lot about how viruses work.

      Thanks for coming back!

  195. Are you Wordley again now?
I keep meeting your page invaders!
    Good luck cleaning up

    • It’s been a battle, but the clean up is going well. It looks like the redirect adware (McCaffee anti virus?) impacts anyone using BING search engine to get to “five forks wordle” or something similar, but not Google, Duck Duck Go, or direct.

Do you happen use Bing to get here?

      • Hey Jeb
I use Duck Duck all the time, but that had a problem yesterday too (May 23).
Hopefully we’re all on the same page again now!?

  196. Why isn’t yesterday’s wordle posted yet?
    I know you’re a late sleeper, but c’mon.

    • Linda,

Updated now. Normally I update between 8am and 9am to avoid being a spoiler for all late night players (like Hawaii.)

But the site got hit by an adware virus on Sunday and while the list kept working, it prevented updating. Took 3 days and fixing over 450 code files! TBD if the virus is gone.

Thanks for keeping an eye out!

      Jeb

    • I know! I was thinking a U and I word or a U and O word, but not all 3 vowels in a row!

      • I had ASTER, GLOSS, and SYNOD. Couldn’t even come up with a 4th guess!

  197. You might want to add a column of what I call the “failure rate” of the percentage of people trying and failing to discover the Wordle solution on a given day. This number is available on the Wordle analysis page as the percentage who successfully completed the Wordle, and is easy to derive. Just look at the Wordlebot analysis of “Everyones’s guesses on Turn 6”, and you are shown the percentage of people who completed the Wordle within 6 guesses. It is a measure of the difficulty of determining each day’s word. For example, the April 23rd Wordle was very difficult because only 70.6% completed the puzzle (so far- I’m writing this on the 23rd..!). So 29.4% failed today. Normally the failure rate is less than 1% or 2%.

    • Thanks for the tip Bruce. I see a lot more traffic on fiveforks.com/wordle on a difficult word day, and the 23rd (ROVER) was a record! I think the “rhyme trap” of HOVER, COVER, LOVER, etc. caught a lot of people.

I don’t have access to Wordlebot, but also I don’t think I’ll add the failure rate on the list because there are a lot of great stats sites for those interested.

I do anticipate adding some kind of “last used” day count when Wordle starts reusing words, depending on if they go full random or if they put a word in “time out” for a year, for example. If they go full random (which is what I think they should do), there will be no need for the list.

    • I do not update yesterday’s answer until later the next day because of time zones still playing “yesterday” today. Generally that is between 8 am and 9am eastern time.

6 am would cover Hawaii and Alaska but I’m not up that early. 😉

      No spoiler.

    • I double checked other archive sources. I do not see PAVER and PATCH as past answers so they are still eligible. Do you have dates of answers on your list?

  198. Hi- what time is the past wordle put on your list?
It is 8am on Sunday, April 14 and yesterday’s wordle STEEL is not listed yet.

    • I update the list when I play, which is usually between 8am and 9am Eastern but sometimes later. For sure, I wait for Hawaii to roll past midnight, which is 6 a.m. Eastern.

  199. Hi, I am an old crone who doesn’t do and will never do Venmo. Is there another way to show my support for this very useful list of past solutions? I tried to keep up my own for a long time but it became unwieldy. Anyway, thanks for the list.

  200. I’m not sure about other people, but I struggle with the words being in all italics.
Thanks for this list though. I refer to this list daily before every guess 🙂

  201. The word savvy was not on the 23rd. And you are missing the 24th and 25th which was Sally. Wondering if it was supposes to be savvy?

    • Wow. Thanks Diane. I have a bit of calendar dyslexia and 03/23/24 really threw me off! All fixed.

I’m looking forward to the year 2032 which will be the first year this century that is not a day of the month!

  202. 3/23 and later have the wrong dates and 3/25 is the wrong word. It was SALLY, not SAVVY.

    • You reported it first Monty. It’s a long story involving a screen cap fail, Scordle what if, and a text to my sibs. Thanks or the feedback!

  203. I don’t understand
    “Wordle Haiku
    LINEN #51
    LINER #934
    LINGO 1005
    LIVER #390”
    Please help?

    • CarolAnn,
As I add words sometimes groups of words in the Alphabetical list or the Chronological list look funny or poetic together. Not actual haiku at all, of course, just some Wordle humor.
      Thanks for asking!
      Jeb

  204. DECAY should be listed after DEBUG in alphabetical list for Wordle Past words.
It is currently listed after DELVE.

    • Fixed the ALPHA list. BLOCK list was ok.
Thanks for keeping me straight, Rose!
      My mind is DECAYing.
      –Jeb

  205. Happy 1000 day! Thanks for your hard work in maintaining this epic website!

  206. Hey, is today the day — numero 1000? If so, the lighting on the Empire State Building is cool. But today’s word is meh.

Or do I have this all wrong? If I am off-base, you damn well better believe tomorrow’s word, which I think I’ll get in one, is — LOL, figure it out yourself…

    • Since the first word was #0 CIGAR, today #999 is the 1000th, but tomorrow will be #1000. Worth celebrating multiple days!

    • I don’t have a record that fauna has ever been an answer. Checked a couple of sources. Do you know the date and/or Wordle #?

    • I just use the “find” feature on my browser and that seems to work really well.

    • I am looking for an “on page” search method that makes it more obvious. On a desktop browser, the built in “Find” works great on the list. But a phone is not so easy.

It’s almost hidden on an iPhone, but you can type a word in the address bar and look for the last suggestion: “On this page”. That goes into an mode that lets you keep typing other words to look for on the page. Not sure abou Android.

    • In Android, there’s a “Find in page” choice in the 3dot drop down menu. Works perfectly.

    • You guys inspired me to run a full audit, which I do very few months. I export the three lists: alpha / chron / block into Excel and compare the sorts / dates / and sequence #s to look for miskeys. I also compare against a third party list source. Found 3 sort errors and fixed. Dates and #s all good.

Thanks for monitoring my mild lexdysia! 😉

  207. I appreciate this page and use it daily!

This section is out of order: VIRAL VIOLA VITAL

    Thanks!

  208. Love this and use it daily. and the fact that feedback is listened to and incorporated where needed (the coloured bits in the list).

I have another suggestion: seeing as we are nearing 1,000 words, would it be possible to add the alphabet to the top of the page with hyperlinks to the top of that section?

Keep up tye amazing work and thank you for creating this.

  209. I am a big fan of five forks.com and use the block list. I have one request, would you mind toning down the fluro yellow on the main page new header? I find it’s quite glary!? Is that even a word ? I’ll have to look it up ?

    • Sorry for the glare Julie. Alas, the yellow is part of the Five Forks brand. Sunny? ? The word cloud comes from the past answers. I was thinking about having multiple clouds rotate, and will look at making those different color backgrounds.

    • SB,

The block list view “wraps” to fit the space provided. On my iPhone mini (small screen) at 100% font size (standard) I see 5 words across with the phone vertical and 8 words across with the phone horizontal. On my computer screen I see 10 words across.

Is your browser set to zoom in or increase the font size?

      –Jeb

  210. I got confused when I saw 2/26/2024 for yesterday’s word. Wait, what? We’re in the February 20’s already?? I’m retired and sometimes do forget the date, but really? No, must be a typo.

  211. You may remember all of the excitement with Y2K – Year 2000. Well W1K is quickly approaching – Wordle #1000!

For the purists, http://www.fiveforks.com/wordle list has 3 additional words because the list starts with #0 and there were two days with two answers. But celebrating W1K with #997, while accurate, is mathematically geeky. But perhaps W1K deserves a 3 day celebration? (Or would it be 4?)

    Wordle on!

    — Jeb

  212. Hi. Could you check your dates. you have Which #962 and After #963 both as 6th Feb although the # numbers are correct.

    Best wishes

  213. Thanks for the excellent very useful job. Is it possible to provide these lists in a spreadsheet format e.g. Excel format.

    • I author the list in raw HTML. But I have thought about authoring it in a Google Sheet and let the sheet create the HTML. If I did that, I could publish a share link to the Google sheet.

I’ll move this idea into the labs and tinker on it. Thanks for asking OB!

  214. I just explored your site, and at first I thought Block List was a list of blocked words that are never going to be an answer, lol. I appreciate all your work here. Fantastic job!

    • Hah! If you can think of a better name than “Block List” glad to consider it!

      Thanks for the feedback Terry!

    • Alternate groups of letters are either blue highlight or not. It helps rapidly scroll to the starting letter you may be working. A couple of regular users came up with this and weighed in on how much color it should be.

The Block list view does this with group spacing.

      Thanks for asking Bryanna!

    • Fixed. Thanks Helge! Had it right on the block list, so I’m only half screwed up. 😉

  215. Congrats to CABLE #931 01/06/24 for taking 1st in the C group. CACAO #364 06/18/22 had a long reign, and still, perhaps, the more poetic.

  216. Congratulations to BACON #912 12/17/23 who takes the first “B” position. We thank BADGE #321 05/06/22 who had a very nice run.

And to TABLE #913 12/19/23 who took over first “T” over the long standing TACIT #246 02/20/22.

  217. I want to print both the Alphabetical and Chronological, but get only the Chronological. It shows both on my printer. What am I doing wrong?

    • D.S.

I just tried this. Maybe it will help. Using a desktop/laptop computer, I went to print the page, and chose print/save to a PDF file first. Do you have that option? (It is built in on a Mac.) Both columns printed properly to the PDF, and then the PDF could be used to (actually) print to your printer.

Here is a link to the PDF.

      Jeb

    • Milto,

If you mean you are not seeing recent Wordle answers, try refreshig your screen to see if your page is cached. The site is updated every morning to include yesterday’s answer (so no spoiler.) There is a 24-hour refresh script that is supposed to do this for you, but scripts can be blocked.

If you mean my clothing is out of date, I’ll give you that. 😉

      -Jeb

  218. [See reply that counters this observation.]
Thanks for the list! Worldle does repeat words. You have Queen listed and they just used Queen this week ( November, ‘23) .

    • Patricia, I think this is a false alarm? I do not see that QUEEN was used prior to this week. One reason I keep the chronological list with dates and #s is to watch out for the day they repeat. I don’t think we’ve hit that day yet. But it has to happen some time.

      Thanks for the feedback!

  219. Triple Digit Milestones:
    THROW #888 11/24/23
    ANODE #777 08/05/23
    DWELT #666 04/16/23 :-O
    JUDGE #555 12/26/22
    TAUNT #444 09/06/22
    SCOUR #333 05/18/22
    MOUNT #222 01/27/22
    MOTOR #111 10/08/21
    CIGAR #000 06/19/21 ?

  220. I noticed VAGUE is listed at the end of U’s in the block arrangement. It blends in quite well.

    • Thanks Mike. Wendy reported this and I fixed it on Oct 28. Can you see if refreshing the page solves? The site is supposed to auto-refresh every 24 hours, but browsers can be set to block that.

An advantage of the vertical list is you can see the most recent word in the CHRON sort, which is supposed to be current through yesterday (no spoiler.)

  221. In the block view VAGUE has ended up at the end of the “U”s!

Many thanks for your uncluttered listing – especially the block view!

  222. Great lists! I haven’t decided which is easier for me but they’re both a big help.
Question: Does this game have an end date? Or will you eventually allow previously used words? It’s a fun game.

    • I have not heard anything from the editor about an end date. My guess is at some point she announces words will be recycled. I think words should be recycled after a time period like 1 or 2 years.

      • Jeb, I’ve noticed that DWELL is listed twice in the block list. Is this a legitimate recycle or just a mistake?

        • Thanks for spotting, John. That was a double-paste error. Fixed. No repeats yet. The day that happens, it will be big Wordle News, and it will change how I manage this list. If repeats become random, the list may have no use. Let’s not DWELL on it. 😉

          • If that announcement is made to repeat words, it will be big news indeed! I still think your list will have use, though. For me, it’s interesting to know what words have already been used, whether recycled or not. I never use the list while playing.

          • If recycle allowed after 12 months (for example), then keeping dates/counts on the list could still make the list useful.

            TRADE #0870 11/06/23
            TRADE #1535 09/02/25

            Back to the future.

  223. Scanning vertically is easier for me but the block list is more compact, so less scrolling. Could you alphabetize the block list vertically first then across?

However, my biggest question/complaint is: Why doesn’t Wordle just disallow all previously used words? Instead of indicating “not on word list,” say “previously used.” And keep the vertical list for reference on when used.

    • I like the idea of Wordle allowing any word, but maybe giving you a flag it is “not in the pool”, so you have a chance to not play it. That would put this list out of business! (Fine with me.)

Interesting idea to alphabetize each letter block list vertically, but no, I don’t know how to do that. The blocks are using word wrap and adjust based on the size of your screen. Not sure how vertical word wrap would work. Might be able to use “flow” css. Off to the labs…

      • If Wordle disallowed words already used, the dynamics of the game would totally change, and it would get exponentially easier as time progresses.

  224. Great website! Thanks for keeping it updated. Just wanted to let you know that the word FRANK is out our order in the alphabetical list.

  225. Thank you for this wonderfully-formatted list. I copied it into Word and add to it each day to keep it current.

  226. I love your site! It’s so clean and easy to navigate. I don’t want to use words that have already been Wordles, so I check the list before every guess. The game’s definitely getting harder now that several hundred words have been used. Thanks so much for creating and maintaining your site!

  227. I love your lists and use them every day, thank you for this service!
I noticed this morning in the alphabetical list that ‘caper’ is placed after ‘carry’, but I’m pretty sure it should come before ‘carat’.
    Regards
    Mandy

    • Good catch Mandy! CAPER is now correctly sorted on the vertical list. I got it right on the block list.

      Thanks!

  228. I really liked the highlighting you added a few weeks ago…and love the app altogether for sure. It makes Wordle so much more fun. I spread the word to whoever I meet that is playing wordle.

  229. I really appreciate this website. At some point, maybe 100 or more wordles ago, I decided not to use any words that had already been wordles. There have been MANY times that doing so would have gotten me to the wordle sooner – but why use a word you KNOW can’t be the wordle? It’s getting harder now. There have been wordles for which I have wanted to use 5 -8 words that are already taken. It takes more time, but makes for a better game. I think. So thank you for your site. There are probably others with similar lists. But I like yours. I like both the running list and the alpha blocks. Thanks again. — A wordle player

    • Thank you for the feedback, Elissa. Much of the game is narrowing down, and used words can do that in the first, second, even third guess. But then you start running out of options, so you need to get to an available word. My brother beats me most of the time without the list, but he is a genius Scrabble player. 😉

  230. Oh! I’ve just spotted it!
The chronological list is now BELOW the alphabetical list!
Mine always showed side by side till now ?

    • The monospace font is new to make words easier to read, but that takes more room. Depending on how your phone settings are set, the two columns will stack. I can tweak some of the center space to tighten up.

      Thanks for feedback!

  231. Hi! I really appreciate this list! Thank you for creating it.
Have there been recent changes as I now have just an alphabetical list, there used to be a list of the words by day too.
    Will that be coming back?
    Thank you ?

  232. I liked the blue better. This color doesn’t provide enough contrast.
    Great website!

  233. I prefer the vertical list and the previous font was easier to read. Not a fan of the blue highlight, maybe something more subtle or nothing at all.

I do appreciate the list (use it daily) and the effort it takes to maintain. Thank you so much, we’d be lost without it.

  234. I prefer vertical but with a lighter or pale color. The darker blends with the type too much.
    Thanks for all you do!!
    Art

  235. I do like the color separating the alphabetical list words. I am probably in the minority, but I did prefer the larger font.

  236. Please have a search line above the entire list to instantly find the word you want check if among the used words ….

    • I will have to look into how to do an on page search. Your browser supports on page search, but it is not obvious on an iPhone, for example, that you type a word in the URL field and then scroll to the bottom of type ahead to pick “Find on page.”

      Find On This Page

  237. That Block list really gives a feel for how few some of the letters are used. Only 5 words starting with “J”!!

    • I go back and forth. I like seeing the numbers and dates, too, but that is just about curiosity.

  238. I wonder if alternating colors of text would be easier on the eyes than the blue highlight? Not a big deal, just wondering if something more subtle would be better. I do like the differentiation between letters.

    • I agree. Will experiment with font colors instead of background. And / or a more subtle background.

  239. Please retain the vertical list – it’s so quick to scroll through to the word one wants to check and, in any case, if it ain’t broke, why fix it? Thank you! ??

    • Vertical vs block list –
Vertical please. Much easier to scan.
Thank you for maintaining this list. It has helped me maintain my Wordle sanity ??
      Much appreciated ?? ?? ??

    • With the list so long, block list is useful to me.

As a suggestion for block list – Would it be possible to have each starting letter on a new line / block?

Suggestion for both – could consecutive starting letter words have alternating colours? Eg. All words starting with A are Green, B Blue, C Green etc.

It’s only to make it easier to find, but the current lists work, and I refer to this first before I guess. Thank you so much for this helpful tool! I kept forgetting to update my own list, until I found this one. ?

    • I do like the block list, not as much scrolling. However, I don’t know that I’m ready to abandon the vertical list. Could both formats be available?

      • Yes, both formats will be retained. I’m going back and forth myself. The vertical lists, having more information, are better for audit, too.

        Thanks Kent!

        • Yes, as I have chewed on this, I realize there are advantages to both. If I had to choose only one, I think the edge goes to vertical.

    • I prefer the vertical list. I previously used an alpha list but it was so hard to single out words. I went searching for a vertical list and found YOU!!! I was so happy.

I do however like the suggestion to differentiate the start of each new letter. Whether by color or a line space, as Aitch suggested, would help, I think. But I also don’t know the difficulty in doing this, so if it’s not easy, then I’m completely happy with the list as is. Thank you for taking the time to do all this work!!!

      • Thanks Lisa! I added line spaces to the block list this morning. Will try background colors on the vertical list.

        One lonely Z. No X.

    • INDEX #787 08/15/23
I may have been a little late updating the list in the 16th, which I usually do around 8 am eastern time the next day. But I was at the beach with toddlers! That was a good word with a starting I and an X!

    • What is ‘list poetry’? Loopy etc..
(We always challenge ourselves to use our daily guesses in a sentence.. but it’s more like ‘prosetry’?)

      • When I’m working the list, I sometimes see funny word sequences appear. Alpha sort list subject to change, of course, but Chron sort is locked in.

  240. Did a full audit. CHRON list was good. ALPHA had these # corrections. Thanks Stephen and Kent!

    WAS -> FIXED
    CARRY #494 -> CARRY #495
    FLANK #781 -> FLANK #761
    FLOUT #493 -> FLOUT #494
    FROZE #783 -> FROZE #763
    GROUT #64 -> GROUT #643
    HOBBY #785 -> HOBBY #765
    HOTEL #744 -> HORSE #626
    HORSE #626 -> HOTEL #744
    POWER #398 -> POWER #400
    TONIC #780 -> TONIC #760
    WHALE #784 -> WHALE #764
    WHEEL #786 -> WHEEL #766

  241. Error in alphabetical list: BURLY IS #762, not 782 as shown. We have not yet reached puzzle #782.

    • Thank you for your site. I saw “BURLY” in the alphabetical list as #782, according to chronological list it should be #762.

    • The previously wrongly numbered words still have the wrong numbers in the alphabetical list.

      Thanks for this site!

  242. FLYER has the incorrect number on the alphabetical list, it should be 759. Also, on the chronological list, after FLYER the sequential number is wrong. It jumps from 759 to 780. FLYER seems to be having a bad day.

    Thanks,
    Kent

  243. You jumped from 759 to 780 in your numbering of the Wordle list. See below.
    Chronological
    HOBBY #785 07/24/23
    WHALE #784 07/23/23
    FROZE #783 07/22/23
    BURLY #782 07/21/23
    FLANK #781 07/20/23
    TONIC #780 07/19/23
    FLYER #759 07/18/23
It’s so great that you do this work. Many thanks.

  244. Thank you for this list, it is exactly what I was looking for. I did find a tiny issue: your puzzle numbers went from #759 to 780 instead of to #760.
    Thanks!

  245. The sequence is wrong — it has gone from #759 to #780 and up (#760-779 have been skipped).

  246. Please turn off the 60-second meta refresh that you added since yesterday; it’s very annoying. I have disabled it in my browser so it prompts me whenever I open a page with such a refresh directive, but that’s a further inconvenience to other sites that use it more responsibly.

    • Sorry about that. Just adjusted to 24 hours instead of 1 minute. I got feedback that the list was not updating for weeks, and it turned out some Wordlers keep http://www.fiveforks.com/Wordle as an open tab and did not refresh. I installed a refresher plugin that defaulted to 1 minute. Just changed it to 24 hours. Thanks for feedback!

  247. Happy Birthday! Game #446 on 9/8/22 has the wrong word listed. The answer was class, not clasp

    • Thank you Tamara! I screen cap my guesses each day as a back up record. On that day my third guess was CLASP, and I thought I had finished and updated the list the next day. But now I see the “P” was gray! Didn’t finish the race that day afterall…
      Class not clasp!

  248. Thanks for publishing this! Hands down the best Wordle archive on the web.

  249. Not in alphabetical order, please reorder:
    CHARM / CHANT
    COCOA / COAST
    FISHY / FINER / FIRST
    FLIRT / FLING
    FRONT / FROCK
    WALTZ / WACKY
Also: HOMER and UNZIP are out of order on your valuable list.

    Thanks!!!

    • Thanks Ken. Should be all fixed now. I ended up using a spreadsheet to resort the ALPHA list. Will take extra care in my go-forward manual ALPHA placements.

  250. First, I would like to thank you for creating and managing this list. My family and I use it every day. I would just like to point out that the alphabetical listing has some errors in it. It seems kind of picky but I’ve used the list a couple of times to verify that a word hasn’t been played yet only to realize that it HAS been played. It just wasn’t in the right place within the list. Here are the mistakes that I have found:

ALOFT and ALONE should be before ALOUD
    CHANT should be before CHARD
    COAST should be before COCOA
    FARCE should be before FAULT
    FISHY should be after FIRST
    FLING should be before FLIRT
    FROCK should be before FRONT
    HAVOC should be before HEADY
    HOMER should be before HORDE
RHINO and RHYME should be before RIPER
    RUDDY should be before RUDER
    SPIRE should be after SPILL
    TAUNT should be after TASTY
    UNZIP should be after UNTIE
    WACKY should be before WALTZ

Thanks again for all your efforts!

    • Thanks Paul. I manually update the CRON column each day (harder to mess that up) then copy paste the word # into the ALPHA list. I’ll have to be more careful there!

  251. For 5/12 “snack” and 5/13 “acrid” both are numbered #692, which throws off the rest of the numbering system going forward.

      • Hi!

I didn’t see a place to start a new comment so I am replying here. WALTZ should come after WACKY in your chronological list.

Thank you so much for maintaining this list for Wordle nation!

  252. I love your list… use it every day. I couldn’t imagine doing Wordle without it. That’s why I need to take a minute to inform you that a mistake was made on 5/13. You apparently numbered the word for that day with the number from the previous day, so now your listings are one number behind, as illustrated below:

    Chronological
    GRIEF #698 05/19/23
    SHORN #697 05/18/23
    PLANK #696 05/17/23
    LATTE #695 05/16/23
    CANOE #694 05/15/23
    SCARF #693 05/14/23
    ACRID #692 05/13/23
    SNACK #692 05/12/23

It really stumped me for a few minutes, until I backtracked a few days and caught it. I hope this helps, and I hope you continue providing this great service.
    Thanks again,
    Patrick Hall

    • Thanks Patrick. I realized it knowing we had hit a 700 milestone yesterday. Thanks for digging back and spotting the problem!

    • Thanks Jo! I had jumped from 660 to 670, so I’ve gone back and reset all those numbers. Thanks for visiting!

      • Thanks. I use your list to keep a spreadsheet for a group of family that plays wordle daily. Thanks for maintaining it!
